Return
14:17, 26 October 2025"There are moments you wait your whole life for. Then they come and your heart forgets how to beat."
---
The lights dimmed.
The crowd roared.
And Jackson stood alone on the stage, sweat glistening under the glow of a thousand spotlights. His voice echoed into the arena, strong, sureuntil suddenly, it wasn't.
He was halfway through the second verse of his most vulnerable track "Hold Me in the Silence" when something in the audience caught him.
No. Not something.
Someone.
---
Kole.
Front row. No disguise. No sunglasses. No hoodie.
Just him.
Alive and electric and heartbreakingly real.
And in his hand?
The ring.
The one he'd taken when he left. The one Jackson had kissed goodnight every night since.
Kole wasn't crying. But he wasn't smiling either.
He was present. Eyes fixed on Jackson. Like he could see every word before it left his lips.
Jackson's fingers trembled around the mic.
The band played on behind him-drums steady, guitar strumming soft and mournful-but Jackson's voice caught.
He took one step forward. Then another.
The world narrowed. The crowd faded.
It was just him. And Kole. And everything they hadn't said.
He stopped singing.
Dead silence.
The band faltered. The lights held still, waiting.
Jackson dropped the mic to his side. Walked forward until he was right at the edge of the stage.
"I waited," Kole mouthed.
Jackson's eyes burned.
Kole held up the ring.
And Jackson-
He dropped to his knees.
---
Gasps rang through the arena. Whispers. Flashbulbs.
But Jackson didn't care.
He reached forward. Slowly. Reverently.
Kole extended the ring with shaking fingers.
Jackson took it.
Held it between them like it was a vow.
Then, without words, he slipped it onto his finger again.
Like home.
Like forgiveness.
Like yes.
---
The crowd erupted. But for the two of them, it was silent. A quiet suspended in neon air.
Jackson leaned down, eyes never leaving Kole's.
He whispered into the mic, voice cracking.
"This song used to be about wanting someone to stay. Now it's about someone who came back."
Cheers. Screams. Phones in the air.
He didn't care.
He only saw Kole.
Kole, mouthing, "I love you."
And this time-finally-Jackson didn't hesitate.
He said it back.
Out loud.
In front of everyone.
"I love you."
---
They didn't kiss.
They didn't need to.
The love in the space between them was loud enough to shake the stage.
---
Backstage later, Kole waited by the dressing room door.
Jackson walked in, breathless, glowing, terrified in the way only someone deeply in love could be.
Kole didn't say anything at first.
He just leaned in. Forehead to forehead.
"You left," Jackson whispered.
"And I came back," Kole answered.
"Why now?"
"Because I couldn't breathe without you."
Jackson exhaled-like he had been holding it for weeks.
"I thought you'd forgotten."
Kole shook his head. "I just had to remember who I was. So I could love you the way you deserve."
Jackson smiled. "And who are you now?"
Kole kissed him. Soft and slow.
"Yours."
