A Kiss in the Rain

14:16, 26 October 2025

It wasn't supposed to rain. Not today.

The sky had promised sun, but somewhere between the long drive back and the way Kole had reached across the console to quietly hold Jackson's hand-storm clouds rolled in like they had something to say.

By the time they stop at a small roadside park-somewhere between nowhere and nothing-the clouds have turned heavy and gray, and the first drops fall like warnings.

But neither of them moves.

They stand under the skeletal frame of an old pavilion, watching the rain begin its slow descent over the empty field. Everything smells like earth and thunder.

Jackson runs a hand through his hair, breath rising visibly in the chill.

"Why'd we stop?" Kole asks, voice soft, low.

Jackson looks at him. "Because I needed to breathe."

Kole nods, then steps out from under the pavilion and into the rain.

Drops hit his shoulders, soaking into his hoodie. He tilts his head back, lets the water wash over him like something holy. When he glances back-

Jackson is watching him like he's the storm itself.

Kole grins, cocky and defiant. "Come on, superstar. Afraid of a little rain?"

Jackson doesn't answer.

He steps forward slowly, deliberately. Each step closer soaks him more. By the time he reaches Kole, they're both drenched-hair flattened, clothes clinging, hearts exposed.

"You always do this," Jackson mutters, blinking rain from his lashes.

"Do what?"

"Pull me into chaos and make me want to stay there."

Kole swallows. His throat tight. "Then stay."

Silence stretches-tense, trembling.

Then Jackson moves.

No hesitation. No cameras. No choreography.

Just a kiss-deep, wet, desperate. Fingers in hair. Hands on soaked backs. Mouths opening like they've waited years instead of months.

The rain roars around them.

Kole breaks the kiss first, just barely. His lips hover against Jackson's, breath shaky. "Don't disappear again," he whispers, voice cracking like the sky.

Jackson's eyes search his. "Not unless you send me away."

"I won't."

"Then I'm here."

Another kiss. Slower. Hungrier.

The kind of kiss that doesn't promise forever-just tonight. Just this moment. Just the truth between storms.

Kole clutches Jackson's shirt. Jackson cups Kole's jaw.

And for the first time in too long, the thunder feels like applause.
