I will do a bonus chapter for those who are curious what happens after this chapter + more. I will be writing another series soon by the way! :)
Your mission failed.
You couldn't find Robin until you walked into your English class, a permanent grimace appearing on your face. The high-pitched giggle erupting from beside him was enough to make you rip your ears off.
She was acting as if nothing happened. As if you didn't just confront her donkey lookin' ass. The funny thing is, she didn't even have this class.
You marched over to your desk, which hasn't changed since you and Robin hated each other, so it was on the opposite side of the room. You glared at the back of the blonde's head, occasionally glaring at Robin's too.
Apparently, Sofia had her schedule changed for the day. You didn't really get all the details, but it was impossible to make out her rambling. Robin didn't talk, just nodding his head whenever she asked him a pointless question.
"Would anyone mind passing the papers out?" You teacher asked, waving the stack of papers in her hand. Sofia almost immediately raised her hand, snatching the papers before the teacher could even respond. She walked around the classroom, placing a piece of paper on everybody's desk.
When she got to you, she narrowed her eyes at you, placing a piece of paper on your desk-neighbor's desk and not yours. She went to walk by you, when you put your leg out, tripping her. She fell straight forward, her nose coming in contact with desk that was close by, a sickening crunch erupting.
She then started screaming as if she was dying, well, to be fair, it kind of looked like it. She was practically covered in bloodโ the classroom floor too.
Everybody was freaking out, the teacher rushing up to Sofia. Students crowded around her, except you. You were actually proud of yourself. She didn't listen, so that's what she gets.
You stifled a laugh, earning a few glares from classmates. You awkwardly coughed, cringing as you stared at all the blood staining her clothes.
"S-she, t-tripped me!" Sofia screamed, pointing at you. Everybody turned to look at you, including Robin. You couldn't decipher the look he had on his faceโ but you sure didn't want to see it again.
"No I didn't." You lied, putting on fake sympathetic frown.
"Somebody grab some paper towels!" The teacher shouted, leaning Sofia's had back to hopefully stop the bleeding.
You felt the tiniest pang of guilt hit you. Did you really have to do that? Over a boy? She didn't really do anything wrong, she just couldn't take a hint. But at the same time, that was the problem. She couldn't take a hint and it was annoying the crap out of you. You weren't going to apologize, you weren't going to confess to tripping her. She brought that upon herself.
The teacher snatched the paper towels from the student that had them, bringing them up to Sofia's nose.
Some students ran off to get the principal. Others were frozen in place. Some were whispering to one another about how much blood there was.
After the students got ahold of the principal, ambulances were outside of the school's building in a matter of seconds. Medics rushing into the room to help her onto a stretcher.
The only thing you were feeling was deja vu. It was just like watching Robin being placed on a stretcher, his limp body in the arms of a police officer. The only difference was you actually cared about him, Sofia? Not too much.
The whole class had to go to the school's library, the classroom having to be cleaned after you broke Sofia's nose.
A few people were staring at you, trying to decide if you tripped her or not. Ultimately deciding you didn't, how could someone as "sad" as you trip her? It looked like your puppy just died.
In reality, you were just trying your best not to bring any attention to yourself.
You sat at one of the back tables, Robin sitting across from you with the same look from earlier. It took him a few moments before he finally spoke. "Did you trip her?"
"No."
Robin nodded, obviously knowing you were lying. He saw your shit eating grin when Sofia first fell, the look of accomplishment in your eyes. He didn't really know what to think. It was impossible to wrap his mind over what just happened. There was no reason to hate her, she just wanted to be his friend. Right?
"What'd you do all weekend?" You changed the subject, your mind replaying all the imaginary knocks you heard on your window. You would swing your head towards the window, your face quickly falling when you realized it was just your brain playing tricks on you.
"Hung out with Finney and Gwen." He said, drumming his fingers on the edge of the table as he quickly looked around the library. His eyes scanning over the bright and dusted books standing neatly in the bookshelves.
"What you gu..." And that's when it hit you. You hung out with Gwen. There was no way he hung out with her. Maybe he was just so used to saying Finny and Gwen that he said that instead of saying Finny?
Robin looked at you expectantly, waiting for you to finish your sentence.
"Finney AND Gwen?"
"Yeah. What'd you do?"
"You positive that you hung out with Finney... AND Gwen?" You asked again.
He nodded, looking at you strangely as his fingers stopped the drumming against the table.
"Oh." You mumbled, scratching your arm. "I, uh. I slept."
He chuckled, his face brightening for the first time since last week. You gave him a small smile, your shoulders feeling heavier than ever. You wanted to ask him again, make sure he was positive that he actually hung out with the both of them. Maybe they hung out for a few minutes? That's still technically hanging out.
"Y/N?" You heard your teacher quietly say frombehind you, her eyes boring into yours. She gives you a small piece of paper, a slip. "Principal wants to see you."
-
"I didn't trip her!" You exclaimed, bouncing your leg up and down as your principal nodded. After your teacher gave you the slip, you went up to the office. The principal soon took you into his, explaining how Sofia accused you of tripping her. It wasn't a total lie... okay well, it wasn't. But you weren't going to tell him that.
"We're going to be asking your classmates to see if they saw anything. Including your teacher." He spoke, writing your words down on a piece of paper. He wrote everything you said on it, documenting it.
You crossed your arms, rolling your eyes as you did so.
"Is there anything else you want to add? Was there anything on the floor that could have tripped her?"
"Nope."
The principal sighed, placing the pen down on his desk. It was filled with random bobble hands and pictures of his family. Random junk, as well.
"There's nothing else we can do, then. Her mom can press charges if you tripped her. You can get expelled."
"Well, I didn't trip her." You lied, trying your hardest to not panic. You couldn't get expelledโ you were only in middle school. You knew your parents, your WHOLE family would be disappointed in you. What would you do if her family pressed charges? Would you get arrested? What did that even mean?
"For now, you will continue doing your class work in room 41." He said, grabbing a small piece of paper, similar to the slip, and scribbling your name on it.
That was the same room detention was held in. Was he really going to have you in there? For how long?
As if the principal could read your mind, he looked up at you, speaking. "You'll be in there until we find out if you tripped her or not."
It kind of warmed your heart. The memories of you and Robin there. That was probably the only reason you guys became whatever you guys are. Shit. You shouldn't be thinking about that.
He gave you the slip before excusing you. You grumbled as you trudged your way to the classroom, the new weight on your shoulders making it feel like you were carrying a million pounds.
-
"Did you actually trip her? Be honest." Robin spoke from behind you, startling you.
You spent the rest of the day in the classroom, doing whatever the teachers were assigning you. Once school ended, you planned running home. You were bored out of your mind and you wanted to watch TV. But before you could even escape the school's campus, Robin recognized your Y/C/H, jogging to catch up with you.
You span around, a offended expression written all over your face. "I wouldn't trip her." You lied, spinning back around to continue your route home.
"Really? Everybody's saying you did, sayin' you're gonna get expelled."
You snorted. It was crazy how fast rumors spread at that school. One time Finney accidentally walked into the girls bathroom, by the end of the day there were so many rumors flying around the school you couldn't keep track. "He's secretly a girl." "He's secretly a narc." "He's a creep." "He was supposed to meet a girl there." You remember him being so embarrassed that he ditched school for a week, convincing you to ditch with him.
"I'm not gonna get expelled." You huffed, staring straight ahead as you wished you could magically teleport into your room.
"So, you did trip her?"
"I didn't trip her!"
Robin raised an eyebrow at you, noticing how quick you were to defend yourself about the topic.
"Even if I get expelled, that means no school, right?" You asked, trying to look at the bright side of things.
"Yeah, but... I won't be able to see you then."
Butterflies started swarming your stomach when the events from earlier came flooding your brain. 'Hung out with Finny and Gwen.'
"You'll still be able to see me out of school." You mumbled, picking at the dead skin around your nails.
Robin stayed quiet for a moment, his mind raking out words to use.
"Do you think, I can, maybe...come over tonight?" He asked. Usually, he would just sneak over without any warning beforehand. He would randomly show up in the middle of the night, right after schoolโ you get the point.
"Yeah. Just be quiet."
"Okay. I'll be over at nine?"
"Sounds good."
Robin grinned before placing a kiss on your cheek, mumbling out a quick 'goodbye' before running off.
You walked home, opening the front door to be met by two pissed off parents. You froze, shrinking under their gaze.
"Do you want to explain to me why you BROKE a girl's nose today?" You mom shouted, steam practically coming out of her ears.
"I didn't brโ"
"I don't care! The school thinks you did and you're gonna get expelled! Do you know how much that's going to affect your future?"
"Your mother and I, are very disappointed!" Your dad spoke, his voice much more calmer than your mom's.
You mom sighed, sitting down as she rubbed her temples. "Just go to your room. We'll talk about this later."
You stood still for a moment before rushing to your room. It wasn't even your fault. Your leg just so happened to be where she was walking.
Just deny, deny, deny. You repeated to yourself. Didn't matter who it was, you were just going to deny. You honestly could care less about being expelled, you hated that school anyway.
Your parents ended up calling you out to the living room around an hour later, yelling, screaming at you. No matter how hard you tried to lie, they still didn't believe you. They grounded youโ you could only walk to school and walk straight homeโ until the school figured out if you tripped Sofia or not.
You then took a shower, heading straight to your room to read a book before going to bed. You locked your bedroom door, already annoyed with how panicked your parents were.
You read your book for a good thirty minutes before you heard a soft knock on your window. You froze. You completely forgot that he has even coming over, you would've threw something on just to look presentable.
You approached the window, your insecure thoughts from earlier dropping when your eyes first fell on Robin.
"What the fuck?" You squeaked, opening the window. He had bruised cheek, you grabbed his hands to help him in but you dropped themโ the bruised knuckles catching your attention immediately.
You helped him in, grabbing onto his arms instead. Once he made it inside, you started questioning him. Examining his body for any noticiable cuts or bruises.
"Y/Nโ I'm fine." He stopped your blabbering.
"What happened?" You asked, taking a deep breathe in before closing the window. You locked it tightly before spinning around to face Robin.
"Moose." He started, moving his fingers around. "Wouldn't stop talkin' bout' you, got on my nerves."
You frowned, grabbing his hand slightly to examine the bruises. They weren't bad, just reddish with purple forming around the edges. You felt bad though. He got into a fight because of you.
"What was he saying?" You asked, flipping his hand over so his palm was facing up.
"He was saying you tripped Sofia." He uttered.
Your frown deepened even more. "You know, I actually tripped her right? You don't need to defend me."
"I know."
You looked up at him, a chuckle escaping your lips. You wondered how he knew, you thought your acting skills were chefs kiss.
As if he could read your mind, he answered your question. "You were the only one that stayed at your desk."
You shrugged, the corner of your lips trying to break into a smile. "Even if I didn't trip her, I still would've stayed at my desk."
He quirked his eyebrow at you, slipping out of your grip to sit on the edge of your bed. "You should see him though. Think I broke his nose tooโ hey, we have something in common, huh?"
"Breaking people's noses aren't something to be proud of." You mumbled, moving to sit next to him.
"You were proud when you broke her nose."
"N-no! Just, she deserved it. She wanted attention and she got it. Was... happy for her." You lied, shrugging as you did so.
"I was proud when I broke Moose's nose. That's if I did break it, if I didn't i'm gonna go back and make sure to actually break it." He half jokes, a lopsided smile on your lips.
You smiled, looking at him. "Oh shitโ do you want a ice or something?" You asked, getting up before he could answer. You snuck out of your room, making sure to close your door before going to the kitchen. You grabbed a bag of frozen peas, rushing back to your room before your parents could see you.
You gave the peas to him, watching him as he brought the peas up to his cheek, applying the cold pressure to the bruise.
"Do you want wateโ"
He interrupted you, grabbing your hand and pulling you to sit down next to him. "Don't worry about me, I came here to ask you something anyway."
"But your bruโ"
"Y/N."
"They look like they huโ"
"You talk too much, you know that?" He playfully says, stopping your series of questions.
"Yeah, you used to tell me that all the time." You say, remembering all those times he used to tell you that every time you tried being friends with him before you eventually gave up.
He frowns, letting go of your hand. "I never meant that."
"Sure seems like you did." You said, your mood changing.
"I didn't though."
"Really? Because you've been repeating those words ever since I met you."
"How was I supposed to act when a pretty girl like you talks to someone like me?"
"Not like an asshole." You remarked, completely ignoring the 'pretty' part.
"I'm sorry."
Silence fell over the two of you as you stared forward, a blank expression on your face. He continued to apple the cold pressure to his face, not knowing what to say.
He finally musters up the courage to say something, something he's been wanting to tell you for a while. "I've liked you for a while. I think I have ever since you came up to me. It wasn't cool that boys had crushes cause of cootiesโ and I thought that if I was rude to you, you would leave me alone. But you didn't, you kept on trying. And I really thought you hated me, all Finny would ever told me was that you hated me so that's why I was acting all rude at school the day after we kissed. I thought you would be embarrassed if we were publicly doing that stuff. The only thing I was thinking about when I was being held captive in that house, was you. You were my motivation, I don't think I would even be here if it wasn't for you." He rambled, answering all of your questions that you ever thought about the past few daysโ years.
"What'd you actually do last weekend?" You asked, not completely giving into him, just yet. You wanted more answersโneeded more answers.
"I-I, was planning something for us. Like a proper date with no other girls interrupting us. The reason I'm even here is because I had this whole plan, flowers and chocolate. I even convinced my uncle to drive us to the diner. Been doing chores for him for money." He confessed, pressing the peas harder against his bruise to hide his red cheeks.
You softened, the weight on your shoulders from earlier slipping away. That's when everything he said really hit you. He felt that way the whole time?
"I'm sorry too. I should've actually communicated with youโ I should've talked to you about it before getting all angry. I'm sorry." You apologized, all the signs and hints throughout all those years of hatred, they were actual signs. Not just because he was trying to embarrass you or keep his reputation up. He actually cared about you, and thought about your 'reputation'.
"It's, uh, it's okay. We justโ we need to work on that." He mumbled, taking the cold pressure off his cheek as he dropped the peas into his lap.
"If you get expelled. I don't know what I'll do." He admitted.
"I don't know either. I don't want to be expelled."
He nodded unconsciously. "We'll think of something."
"Okay."
"Iโ" He closed his mouth tightly, deciding it wouldn't be the appropriate time to ask you.
"What?"
"I'll ask you tomorrow. Right now is really not the best time."
"What?" You repeated, clenching your hand to keep you from squirming.
"Can, I..." He scratched his neck, the bag of peas resting in his lap. "Can I, kiss you?"
You smiled, giving him a small nod. He slowly leaned in, pressing his lips to yours. It felt just like the first kissโ just better. It was like all the tension, all the questions were gone, making the kiss even better.
You guys pulled away from each other, large grins in both of your faces.
"Do you wanna be my girlfriend?" He suddenly blurted out, he cheeks becoming even redderโ if that was possible.
"Okay."
"Okay as in... yes? or no?"
"Yes." You clarified, leaning back into him to give him another kiss. He placed his hand on your cheek, his cold hand from the frozen peas surprising you.
"Shit." He mumbled against your lips, pulling back quickly. "My uncle, he's waiting outside."
"What?" You asked, giggling.
"The diner? He's probably worriedโ he's been all skiddish ever since I got out of the hospital. Do you still want to go?"
You were about to say yes when you suddenly remembered. You were grounded.
"I can't. I got grounded. When I get ungrounded we can, yeah? They don't really trust me anymore, they'll probably walk in here a few times tonight to check on me."
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"
You nodded, giving him a peck on the lips before he left. Running towards his Uncle's truck. You watched as the truck didn't move for a few seconds before it left, driving off.
So many butterflies were swarming in your stomach, you were convinced you were going to explode.
Maybe you guys would've became a couple a while ago. Maybe if you guys would have just communicated, so many things that caused you pain these few weeks wouldn't have happened.
Maybe if you guys just didn't have alexithymia.
