Chapter 29

Annabeth grumbled as her phone began to ring. Her eyes opened and she sighed as she reached over and grabbed her phone which was next to her bed. The screen was bright and her eyebrows furrowed.

She glanced at the time and it was 2am. Percy was calling her at 2am. Annabeth answered and she brought her phone to her ear as she rolled into her back and looked up at the ceiling. "Percy?" Annabeth said, her voice a little husky.

Annabeth heard a sniffle and she frowned as she sat up, instantly feeling worried. "Hey? Hey, is everything okay?" Annabeth asked. "I... uhm, I had a nightmare. I didn't... I needed to hear your voice." Percy said, his voice slightly trembling. Annabeth's heart broke at the sound of Percy's voice.

"Mmh, what was this nightmare about?" Annabeth asked softly. "... It included Gabe." Percy mumbled. "I-I think my brain is just messing with me, especially since my mom and Paul started dating and I'm- I know Paul is a good guy, but... I-" Percy choked back a sob and Annabeth's frown grew. "Percy, hey... It's okay. It's not real. Gabe is out of your life, he won't ever come back, he's not gonna make your life a living hell again. He's gone." Annabeth tried to reassure Percy.

"A-Annie, look, m-maybe we can talk about something else? I need to be distracted... please." Percy said. "Of course." Annabeth said. "Do you wanna talk about how... oblivious you are when a girl starts flirting with you?" Percy stayed silent for a second. "I am not oblivious!" Percy argued. Annabeth giggled.

"Pffft, haha! Sorry, but you are... I mean, even when I'm with you, sometimes a girl comes up to us and only talks with you, literally flirts with you." Annabeth said. "... Oh, well whatever, I already have an awesome girlfriend, so I don't care!" Percy exclaimed. Annabeth smiled.

"Do you wanna talk about our double date with Grover and Juniper next weekend?" Annabeth asked. "Are you looking forward to trying to embarrass Grover?"

"Oh, don't make me sound like a bad friend!""Mmhm, well?" "... I may be looking forward to trying to embarrass Grover!"

Annabeth and Percy continued to talk over the phone. Eventually, Percy asked if Annabeth could just talk to him more about anything that she was interested in, he just wanted to hear her talk.

So, Annabeth just began to rant about something she was interested in and Percy listened intently, humming every now and then to let Annabeth know he was listening.

A little bit of time passed though and Annabeth had stopped speaking as she heard a quiet snore coming from Percy. Annabeth smiled as Percy was asleep on the call and she sighed as she laid down. Annabeth set her phone next to her and she got comfortable.

"Goodnight Seaweed Brain." Annabeth said softly to her phone. "Sweet dreams."There was a snore in response from Percy and Annabeth couldn't help but giggle a little as she shut her eyes to try and fall asleep too. She'd stay on the call just in case.
