Chapter eight
*Bellas POV*
The next morning I went to school again with a smile on my face and sat on the same bench. Laughed again as the Cullen's passed by me.
The only difference was that I knew each one of their names.
Alice was the littlest one with black short hair and a far away look on her face. Rose the gorgeous blonde holding hands with the heavily muscled man who must have been Emmett. Jasper lead Alice through the crowd, making sure not to touch anyone. And then the last Cullen stepped past.
I could easily ask someone his name or peek at his paper during class but that would take away the challenge.
The day flew by and I could feel a routine starting to settle in.
In my one class with the unknown Cullen I thought I might drop him a clue.
Leaning toward him ever so slightly I whispered. "I'll tell you my name if you tell me yours." And then I proceeded to ignore his raised eyebrow. Not a word left his lips but I could see him thinking it over.

I still hadn't found a car but chose to do so today. So I sat in the living room with a red pen and went through the paper. Only a few things caught my eye. A 2003 red Toyota, a white 2012 Jeep Patriot, and a blueish purple 2009 Honda Fit.
I called all three of the numbers and asked if I could come out tonight to look at the cars. The 2003 Toyota was already sold but the other two cars were still there.
Charlie came home not too much later and I told him what I had been doing. He agreed to come with me and the first one we went to was actually only twenty minutes away. We pulled up in front of a cute two story house with window boxes full of cheery flowers.
The red door opened and out stepped a woman who was probably in her forties. She had laugh lines and seemed like the overly mothering kind of woman.
"Hello! I'm Amanda. Are you here to look at the car?" She shook both of our hands and we replied that we were.
"Well then come around to the garage. It's a 2012 Jeep Patriot as you read. I've kept up the maintenance on it over the years. I got it new." Amanda went on and told us everything that she did to the car and we inspected it.
When I sat in the car it just didn't feel right.
"Well?" Charlie asked me.
"Don't feel like my car." I murmured to him. Charlie nodded in understanding. He was the one that told me that if I couldn't see myself or feel comfortable in the car that I was suppose to own then it wasn't meant to be my car.
"Thank you for letting us look at it but we have don't think this fine car is for us." Charlie said. I felt bad at the disappointed look on Amanda's face but then knew she would sell it sooner or later. It really was a great car.
Just not my car.
The Honda was another thirty minutes from where we were. We made just as the sun was setting. Our stomachs rumpled in hunger and I forgot all about dinner in excitement of finally getting a car.
"We'll pick up dinner after this." Charlie said and I relaxed. Yes! No cooking!
"Okay." I said nonchalantly.
We both saw the Honda in the driveway at the same time and I knew without a doubt that it was my car.
I could see myself in it and being happy.
"That's my car." I said quietly.
"Hmm. I think so too."
We negotiated with the man selling it and finally decided upon a price. I took the proffered key and giggled when it turned over smoothly.
Charlie knocked on the window.
"Follow me and we'll get something to eat."
By now I could eat the dash board, I was so hungry. Being a shifter means I had to have large amounts of food in every sitting because my body's metabolism.
I followed Charlie since he said to and I would've gotten lost otherwise. He pulled into a small roadside café where the sign in the window and the many cars in the parking lot said there was good food for a low price.
We had a quite dinner, which was the usual, but didn't phase me at all. I was comfortable in silence.
"So how is school going so far? I know you have only been in for a few days." Charlie questioned and wiped his mouth with a napkin.
I nodded. "The people are nice, if not gossips." This made Charlie laugh.
"Well what else do they have to do?"
I laughed with him then thought about mom. I hadn't called her since I arrived.
"Remind me to call mom tomorrow." I said absently, then cursed at the look on Charlie's face. He still loved mom.
"How is your mother? Is she happy?" He asked almost afraid of an answer.
"She's Renee. Happy pretending she's not what she is and living a human life with her new husband." I paused wondering if I should just stop now. "He's an okay guy. Seems to love her."
He nodded. "As long as she's happy."
A long awkward silence stretched out between us and then I asked the question I had wanted to know for years.
"Dad? Why did you guys break it off?"
His brown eyes gaze snapped to mine and he sighed in defeat. "Renee has always made it a point of having people know she didn't like her lot in life. She goes as long as she can between shifts because she hates it."
I knew this from just living with her. Every time I came home after a shift she would go on and on about how I could've been seen amount other things. I guess the pound incident was enough for her to put her foot down.
"Is that why she sent me here?" I asked.
"I think so. She doesn't want to be reminded. We would go on runs together and she would love it but once we were home she would complain like there was no tomorrow. Said that we shouldn't shift at all because our inner animal would eventually take over. Some shit like that. So after a while she stopped coming on runs. Wouldn't shift for months and had the anger issues from the stress on her bones." He paused while reliving the memories. "And then out of nowhere it seemed she just took you and left."
Suddenly I felt bad for making him being up the past. I suspected as much of why my mom left.
"I just wish she left you with me. I'm just glad you take after me. You can't be swayed when you love something."
The rest of dinner we talked about lighter topics and then we drove separately home.
As Charlie an I were walking inside the dark house I asked him when was the last time he had shifted and ran.
"Probably a few days but I'm all worn out from a hard days work. Because your young you have to shift almost everyday. It helps you grow. Sooner or later I'll go for a run but not tonight."
He turned in and I went to my room. Quickly getting my little bit of homework done I opened my window wide and was about to shift when the moonlight shone on something shinny in the room.
It was a silver bell hanging on a piece of string off the side of my desk. I knew just how to tell the Cullen vampire my name!
