Prologue

21:01, 26 December 2022

Meliodas and Ban sat at the edge of a cliff not too far from the Boar Hat. Meliodas gestured for Ban to meet him there earlier, and now they sat in silence.

Ban was the first to break the silence. "So why the hell did you call me out here anyway?"

"Since you're leaving, and because you're my best friend, I figured you had the right to know the truth." Meliodas said, his eyes fixated on the town below them.

"Ominous. Go on," Ban pressed.

"I sense that something bad is about to happen. I'm never wrong about these things. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly what the issue is, but I can tell you a little story about the dragon sword hilt I've carried all these years."

"The one you slashed my face up about? Now I'm curious," Ban smirked.

Meliodas smiled a little. "A long time ago, a certain group of very nasty beings were locked away by the good guys, and the lands were peaceful once again. However, within this particular seal, an innocent...no, not quite innocent."

He chuckled. "A girl fighting on the side of good was unintentionally trapped along with the evil ones. This girl had a brother, and like her, he was once on the side of evil, but he abandoned them and joined those who were fighting for the right thing. He was devastated at losing her. He tried everything he could to bring her back, but there was no way he could do so without reviving those they sought so hard to seal away. So he gave up. He had to let her go, even though it was the hardest thing."

The two men stayed silent for some time.

"Damn," Ban said.

Meliodas stayed silent.

Then Ban looked at his captain, empathy filling his eyes. "What was her name?"

Meliodas looked up at Ban.

"Prelialduis."
