HERE WE GO GUYS; DRAMA TIME :)

- Chapter Twenty Three -

I froze as soon as the words left my brother's mouth.

I gulped quietly, hoping not to give off any suspicion as I held their gaze.

"Sure," I said hesistantly, rising from my position to give them my full attention. I placed arm behind me on the couch, crossing my legs as I allowed myself to become comfortable in an attempt to calm down. I didn't realise until Stefan gave Damon a glance that my heart was racing.

Chill, I snapped to myself quietly, It's probably nothing

I gave Stefan a small smile as he stood in front of me, crossing his arms.

"What do you know about Liam Mikaelson?"

My heart lunged into my throat, making me feel slightly sick.

HOW IN THE NAME OF SATAN DID HE KNOW ABOUT LIAM

I SWEAR LIAM SAID NO ONE KNEW ABOUT HIM

WHAT EVEN

"Who?" I asked, frowning in mock confusion as I prayed silently that he brought it. The cold glare in his eyes as he stared straight at me, no falter in his cold personna giving me a clue.

"Liam Mikaelson. Youngest Mikaelson and newest Original."

"Never heard of him, sorry." I shrugged, bringing my arm from behind me to sit in my lap.

"Are you sure about that, Brooklyn?"

I scowled at him. "I'm pretty sure, Stefan."

Elena shifted uncomfortably next to me, obviously wanting to get up and leave us to our discussion.

Stefan narrowed his eyes at me, his mouth curling downwards.

I gulped quietly again. I knew that look. I'd known that look since we were younger. It was the 'don't pull that shit with me' look. Like that time I tried to convince him I didn't eat the last sandwich.

"This is serious, Brooklyn."

My head snapped in Damon's direction. An exact replica of the look was now plastered on his face as he pushed off the wall he was leaning against to join Stefan in the big brother brigade.

"Ooooh, the full name." I raised my eyebrows sarcastically. I looked between the two similar disapproving glares of my elder brothers. "Have you guys been practicing together?"

"Don't." Damon growled, unfolding his arms to stare down at me. I froze once again. Never before had Damon spoken to me in such a cold tone.

"Don't what?" I snapped back. "I don't anything about this Liam guy you're speaking about."

"Stop lying! We're trying to protect you!"

"Protect me from what?!" I shouted, raising an eyebrow and curling my lip in confusion as I threw my hands up in exasperation.

Stefan took a deep breath and spun on his heel, kicking the coffee table in front of us in frustration. I looked to my right, noticing how Elena had obviously gone to give us some privacy.

Damon looked back at Stefan, before turning back to me with a blank expression. "Brook," He started, "You know how dangerous the Originals are."

I sat up straight. Of course I did. But Liam was about as dangerous as a cupcake. He was harmless. "I do." I said, "But you obviously don't seem to understand what I'm saying." I stated through gritted teeth. "I haven't seen or spoken to this 'Liam' guy that you're reffering to."

The words came out with such determination and confidence that I even convinced myself. I stared straight back at Damon, my blue eyes meeting his as we had a battle of the stares. After what seemed like years he let out a grunt that I took as confirmation that he believed me.

I allowed a small breath of relief to fall past my lips as I flopped back against the sofa, my body sinking deeper and deeper into the soft cushions as Damon gave me one last look before turning on his heel and storming off towards the stairs, making a lot more noise than I'm sure was necessary.

I slumped against the couch, allowing all my muscles to relax as I thought I was in the clear.

WRONG!

"Do you trust me?"

My eyes snapped away from the fire towards my twin, a small smile creeping onto my face as he stared at me from the fireplace, a serious expression covering his features.

"Is that a trick question?"

"I'm serious. For once, just stop joking, and answer me seriously."

I raised an eyebrow and pushed myself up, realising that I still had one more brother that wanted to interrogate me.

I crossed my legs over once again and cocked my head to the side. "Yes. I trust you two with my life."

And for once, I wasn't being sarcastic or lying. I meant that. My brother's were my rocks. They kept me grounded when I felt like I was falling. Despite all the bickering and shouting and disagreements, I loved my brother's a lot and I trusted them with my life.

Stefan looked at me suspiciously. "Are you being sarcastic or...?"

I rolled my eyes. "No, I'm not."

He put his hands up in defense, a trace of a small smile ticking at the corner of his lips, allowing the more playful and relaxed side of him showing for just a moment. "Just checking. I can never tell with you."

"I'll take that as a compliment." I grinned back. There was a pause. "Do you trust me?"

I watched as his eyebrows quirked up in surprise, obviously not expecting me to turn the tables. "Are you asking me seriously?"

"Don't make me slap you."

"You wouldn't slap your twin."

"Don't test me." I narrowed my eyes, a small smile pulling at my lips, blowing my cover.

"Ok, ok," He let out a small laugh and smiled. Genuinely smiled. It was nice to see him smile. He was always the worry wart in the family, always making sure I was ok and that I didn't get into too much trouble. "But yes," He stared at me, nodding his head slightly. "I do trust you. Even though sometimes you are so immature."

"Again, taking that as a compliment."

He gave me another smile, this one actually reaching his eyes as he stood by the fire. "Can I push the boundries a little here?"

I narrowed my eyes again, giving him a look out the corner of my eye. "Depends."

"Can I have a hug?"

Now that right there...

Is what I call a plot twist.

Of course, they were my brothers' and like I've already told you, they meant the world to me. But we barely hugged. We just...didn't.

And the fact that Stefan was now asking me for one, took me by surprise a little bit. But it did tell me something.

What they came to talk to me about, about Liam...they were dead serious. Stefan was 100% worried about me hanging around Liam and now he wanted to try and clear the air after the little shouting match and give me a hug.

Welcome to the complicated life of being a Salvatore.

"Sure," I pushed myself away from the cushions, my fingers brushing the rough material as I walk towards his outstretched arms. I fall into them, pressing my cheek to his chest as his arms engulf me and his cheek lays on the top of my head.

I felt safe.

For once in a long time, I felt safe.

I felt like I was at home again, where me and my brothers' stood side by side, defending each other whenever we needed it.

"I love you, sis."

I smile slightly, pulling at my twin tighter. "I love you too, bro."

And we stood there for a while, just enjoying the rare embrace as we stood by the fire.

Oh, and as you'll also notice, I've changed my username due to the fact that I just felt like the other one wasn't me, if that makes any sense at all.

Thank you once again!
