..... interview September 1995
"As people who were close with Korina, whether it was personally or only buisness,if I may ask......
"Where were you when Korina died?,and how did her death affect you?"
Ren:
" Man I was chilling out with my homeboys,I had already told her the day before that she shouldn't go on that airplane....
"She told me about sum,it's important and she has to go,bit I tried telling her not to go,I wish I had done a better job convincing her, this year has been very rough.
"Korina and I might have not been sibling in real blood, but the bond we had was definitely unexplainable.
She was the sister I never thought I would have, she was that type of person who would walk I to a room and lighten up the whole mood, she was very soft-spoken yet she had this way of ...sh*t I don't know how to explain just Korina was just a very bright and talented girl, the greatest sister and if I could bring her back I most certainly would.
Yella:"people might have assumed that just cuz they ain't seen it,me and Korina wasn't close Nah we were definitely close she was like a sister to me,my younger sister..
She was a very fun person, she had this type of vibe and charisma, she was very clever, and she was just a whole mood.....
Sometimes I look back and think that maybe if I had cherished all those years that-..,all those years, those moments that I spent with her ,maybe I would not be this hurt now, maybe it would take less time to heal but no,this is a scar that seems like it would never heal."
"Korina was a one in a million"
Cube:
"me and her, they was all out calling us a power duo,but now what happens when the other half is gone?"
"Korina was a movement,I ain't never seen nobody like her and I will always have a respect and admiration, value for her more than I'll have for anybody else."
NaviY:
"1995 is such a hard year,in March we lost Korina not even 4 months later we lost the other one Eric,Eazy, those two were a power couple for sure.
"I remember when we all would chill together back when we was all at ruthless, like Korina ain't even like Eric but suddenly one day there she was sitting on his lap and we was all like??shocked cuz we ain't never thought this would happen and I remember either between me and cube siad that those two would end up like Bonnie and Clyde..."
"I guess we were right"...
"Korina was the greatest friend I have ever had or will ever had,she inspired many and if I have seen ,she is one of theost talented and heard voices out there so really.
"Rest in peace Korina, you will forever be missed"
Nas:"
she was just talented honestly,I ain't never got the chance to know her like that Soni can't say much about her but all I can say is that she is highly intelligent.
"You would just lay down a beat and she would already have a chart topping idea coming straight from her mouth like, she was definitely ahead of her time and there will never be nobody else like her."
DMX:
"she was the light in darkness, the best person anyone could ever know for real,,she had this captivating beauty, this bright energy and she was a very strong woman.
"Even in the darkest moments she would be there for you,or you wouldn't even tell that she was going through things, she was really."
"Wow I can't even explain it,all I can say is that ,never ever will there be another star who will ever shine as bright as Korina."
"It's so emberassing ""All of the things I need, living inside of me"
Years Later…
Time had passed.
The world had changed. Sounds had shifted, trends had evolved, but one name remained etched in the hearts of millions.
Korina.
It didn’t matter that she was gone. In some ways, she never really left.
Each year, on the anniversary of her passing, fans gathered. Not just to mourn—but to celebrate. To remember the woman who dared to pour her soul into her lyrics, who transformed pain into poetry and gave a generation a reason to feel proud of their vulnerability.
There were murals of her now in cities across the country—Los Angeles, Atlanta, Brooklyn. Bright, bold paintings of her mid-performance, eyes closed, mic clutched in her hand, a halo of light behind her. People would leave flowers beneath them. Handwritten letters. Vinyls. Little trinkets from their own lives.
The industry still spoke her name.
"I can't see it"...
Beyoncé, during an acceptance speech in the early 2000s, had paused, hand on her chest, eyes glassy.
“There are women like me on this stage today because of women like Korina. She was more than a singer—she was a blueprint.”
Alicia Keys once played an unreleased demo of Korina’s during a tiny benefit show, saying it inspired one of her most personal albums.
Rihanna, when launching her cosmetics brand, named one of her lipstick shades **“KO’95”—**a tribute to Korina’s final televised performance, where she wore that iconic deep red shade and owned the stage like it belonged to her alone.
In interviews, SZA credited Korina for showing her it was okay to be raw, unpolished, and still powerful.“She let the cracks in her voice show. That was everything to me growing up.”
Even her son, Kory, now grown, had entered the music world—not for fame, but to continue the story his mother began. His debut project featured one track that stopped everyone in their tracks: a song built around an old Korina vocal, woven with his own words. A conversation across time. It made headlines. And broke hearts.
And then there were the documentaries.
The retrospectives.
The tribute shows every five or ten years where artists, new and old, took the stage to cover her songs—not to imitate, but to honor. To breathe life into the lyrics she’d once written late at night, alone, with nothing but a pen and the weight of the world on her shoulders.
On the 25th anniversary of her passing, a tribute was held at the Hollywood Bowl.
Whitney’s voice echoed through the speakers during a pre-recorded message.
“Korina… she reminded me what it meant to feel the music. And not just sing it.”
Dre was there. So was Yella. Even Ralph. Nas, now older, more reflective, stood at the podium and said:
“I was gonna collab with her… and I still regret we never got to. But in a way, she collabed with every one of us. In energy. In spirit.”
had attended quietly, sitting beside a now-adult Kory in the front row. His face aged, eyes still carrying the same pain—but this time, softened by pride.
As the final performance began, the crowd stood. The screen behind the stage lit up with archival footage—Korina laughing, dancing, singing. Not just a star. A woman. A mother. A friend.
A legend.
The crowd didn’t cry that time. They smiled. They swayed. They sang along.
Because in that moment, she wasn’t gone.
She was everywhere.
"It's so emberassing,"All of the love I seek,living inside of me "
When Eric passed the following year—peacefully, quietly, as if his soul had finally followed the melody that had been missing since Korina’s departure—it was as if the chapter had closed completely.
Fans mourned him too.
Not just as a pioneer in music, not just as Eazy, not just as the man who changed West Coast rap forever—but as Korina’s person.
For all their ups and downs, the world remembered the way his arms always cradled Kory at the tribute. The way his voice cracked when he talked about her. The way his eyes searched for her, even when she was no longer there.
It didn’t take long for the world to start saying their names together.
Korina and Eric.
The R&B duchess and the West Coast king.
The Bonnie and Clyde of Compton.
Two souls who had lived out a chaotic, passionate, complicated love—but a real one. A raw one. One that never pretended to be perfect but left an imprint deeper than words could explain.
Documentaries began to include segments titled “When Korina Met Eric”. Fans made tribute videos splicing together old interviews, studio footage, and that now-famous moment at the tribute where Eric held Kory with silent strength.
A mural was painted in South Central.
The two of them—standing side by side, her in her iconic white dress with the mic, him in his Raiders cap, arms crossed, proud. The words underneath read:
“Long live the queen and king of hearts.”
Kory, now grown, often said in interviews:
“I never had both of them for long… but the world gave me proof of how much they loved. And I carry that with me every day.”
And so their names stayed on lips.
Their songs stayed on playlists.
Their story stayed in the cracks of the culture.
Because when people spoke of R&B and hip-hop... they didn’t just speak of charts or hits. They spoke of Korina and Eric.Of love, loss, and legacy. And the magic they left behind.

"It was hard accepting the fate of both my parents, especially since I was so young at that time,I won't lie and say it wasn't hard,it definitely was,but I won't let that get in my way,I love my parents and I wish for nothing but to honour them and make them proud, when I grow up to be much older ,I'll make sure of thst promise.........
