Chapter 3: Under the Spotlight's Glow
00:40, 3 January 2025The soft hum of the styling room was a symphony of last-minute adjustments: the rustling of fabric, the whir of curling irons, and the clatter of makeup brushes being set down and picked up again. Hayoon sat still in her chair, her brown eyes gazing into the mirror as the stylist pinned a delicate hairpiece into her carefully curled brown hair. The shimmering silver accessory caught the light, perfectly complementing her gown—a soft lavender dress with layers of chiffon that seemed to float as she moved.
"Done," the stylist said, stepping back to admire her work. "You look stunning, Hayoon."
"Thank you," Hayoon replied, her voice quiet yet sincere. She turned slightly, glancing at her members, who were in various stages of preparation.
Jiwon was already dressed, her black hair swept into an elegant updo and her dark brown eyes framed by perfectly winged eyeliner. She adjusted the hem of her emerald green dress and smiled at Hayoon. "You look beautiful."
"So do you, unnie," Hayoon said softly, her lips curving into a small smile.
Minseo twirled in her golden dress, the sparkles catching the overhead lights. "I feel like a literal sun," she joked, her brown eyes bright with excitement.
"Careful, you might blind someone," Yeseul teased, her dark red hair cascading over her shoulder as she inspected her crimson gown in the mirror.
Sojin and Hayeon joined in the laughter, their outfits in shades of navy and pale pink respectively, each member a perfect piece of their radiant ensemble.
The award show venue was a dazzling spectacle. The red carpet stretched before them, lined with flashing cameras and excited fans holding signs and banners. As Eclipsé stepped out of their van, the soft hum of voices grew louder. Though they weren't nominated this year, their growing popularity was undeniable.
Hayoon felt her heart quicken as they made their way down the carpet, the flashes of cameras creating an almost dreamlike haze. Jiwon walked confidently at the front, greeting reporters with practiced ease. Hayoon followed closely behind, her steps small and careful, her hands clasped tightly in front of her.
"Hayoon, over here!" a reporter called, and she turned slightly, offering a shy wave.
"You're doing great," Hayeon whispered as they entered the venue, her brown eyes warm with encouragement.
Inside, the atmosphere was electric. The auditorium was vast, the stage bathed in soft blue light as the pre-show music played. Ushers led them to their seats, which were situated in a prime spot close to the stage.
Hayoon's breath caught when she realized who they were seated next to. The members of Enhypen were already in their seats, their sleek suits and polished appearances making them look like they had stepped out of a magazine spread.
Ni-ki, seated at the end of their row, glanced up as Eclipsé approached. His dark eyes met Hayoon's for a brief moment, and he offered a small smile.
"Ah, it's nice to meet you all," Jiwon said, bowing slightly as the two groups exchanged greetings.
The members settled into their seats, the air filled with polite chatter as the show began.
The performances were mesmerizing, each act lighting up the stage with their unique energy. Hayoon clapped enthusiastically, her brown eyes wide with admiration as she watched some of the idols she had grown up idolizing.
During a quieter moment between performances, Hayoon felt a gentle tap on her arm. She turned to see Ni-ki leaning slightly toward her, his expression friendly but slightly hesitant.
"Hi," he said softly, his voice low enough not to disturb those around them.
"Hi," Hayoon replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You're from Eclipsé, right? I saw your debut stage—it was really good," Ni-ki said, his tone earnest.
Hayoon felt her cheeks warm at the compliment. "Thank you. I...really admire your performances, too."
Ni-ki smiled, a boyish grin that softened his sharp features. "Thanks. Are you enjoying the show?"
Hayoon nodded. "It's amazing. Everything feels so...surreal."
Ni-ki chuckled softly. "Yeah, it does. The first time we came to an award show, I felt like I was dreaming the whole time."
Their conversation continued quietly, the hum of the show providing a comforting backdrop. They talked about their schedules, their shared experiences as maknaes, and the little moments of joy and struggle that came with being an idol.
Hayoon found herself relaxing as they spoke. Ni-ki's easygoing demeanor made her feel at ease, and for the first time that evening, she forgot about the cameras, the crowds, and the pressure of the industry.
As the night progressed, Enhypen was called to the stage to receive an award. The auditorium erupted in applause as the group stood and made their way to the stage. Hayoon clapped along, her chest swelling with pride for her newfound acquaintance.
Ni-ki spoke briefly during their acceptance speech, his voice steady but filled with emotion. Hayoon couldn't help but smile as she watched him, noting the way his confidence shone through.
When the group returned to their seats, Ni-ki caught Hayoon's gaze and gave her a subtle thumbs-up. She returned the gesture with a shy smile, feeling an unexpected sense of connection.
By the end of the evening, as the groups filtered out of the auditorium, Hayoon felt a strange mix of exhaustion and exhilaration.
"Did you enjoy yourself, Hayoon?" Jiwon asked as they made their way back to the van.
Hayoon nodded, her brown eyes still sparkling with the night's memories. "It was...magical."
As the van pulled away from the venue, Hayoon glanced out the window, her thoughts lingering on the conversations, the performances, and the moments that had made the evening unforgettable.
For a brief moment, as the city lights blurred into a kaleidoscope of color, Hayoon allowed herself to dream. Not just of the future successes of Eclipsé, but of the quiet, unexpected connections that made this journey worthwhile.
As the van drove through the quiet streets of Seoul, the excitement from the award show still buzzed faintly in the air. Each of the members sat in thoughtful silence, their gowns and makeup catching the faint glow of passing streetlights.
Jiwon, seated at the front beside their manager, turned slightly to look at her members. "You all did well tonight," she said, her tone soft but filled with pride. "Even if we weren't nominated, people are noticing us. That's what matters right now."
Minseo, ever the vibrant one, let out a small cheer. "Next year, we'll be up there accepting awards." Her brown eyes sparkled as she stretched her arms above her head. "Mark my words."
"I can feel it too," Yeseul chimed in, her red hair brushing against her crimson gown as she leaned back. "We're getting stronger with every performance."
Hayeon nodded. "And the fans were so loud when they saw us walk in. Did you hear them?"
Sojin, the quiet and observant one, gave a small smile. "It's all building up, bit by bit. We just have to keep going."
Hayoon sat near the window, her hands folded neatly in her lap. She stared out at the city, her thoughts drifting between the surreal events of the evening. She couldn't stop thinking about her brief conversation with Ni-ki. His words had been casual, friendly even, but they lingered in her mind like a melody she couldn't quite place.
"Hayoon," Jiwon called gently, pulling her from her thoughts.
"Yes, unnie?" Hayoon turned, her brown eyes meeting Jiwon's.
"You did well tonight," Jiwon said with a warm smile. "I noticed how you interacted with the other groups. You're making connections, and that's important too."
Hayoon nodded, grateful for her leader's encouragement. Jiwon always seemed to know the right thing to say, grounding them when the world felt too overwhelming.
Back at the dorm, the members moved with the sluggishness of exhaustion, each retreating to their respective rooms. Hayoon took her time removing her makeup, her reflection in the mirror still glowing faintly from the night's events.
As she carefully undid the curls in her hair and slipped into her pajamas, she couldn't help but replay the moments from the show: the dazzling performances, the applause, the fleeting exchange with Ni-ki.
Settling into her bed, she reached for her notebook, her constant companion on this unpredictable journey.
January 4th, 2025Tonight felt like a dream. The lights, the music, the people...everything was so much bigger than I imagined. I spoke with someone who understands this world in a way few do, and it reminded me why I love what I do. Maybe this is what they mean when they say you find little sparks of joy in unexpected places.
She closed the notebook, a small smile tugging at her lips. The glow of the city outside painted soft patterns on her walls, and as she drifted off to sleep, Hayoon felt lighter, as if the weight of the world had shifted slightly, making room for something new.
The next morning brought the usual flurry of activity, but it felt different—softer, calmer, as though the magic of the previous night had left a trace behind. Jiwon was already in the kitchen when Hayoon emerged, her black hair tied into a neat ponytail as she poured tea.
"Good morning," Jiwon greeted.
"Good morning, unnie," Hayoon replied, sitting down at the table.
The other members soon joined them, their laughter filling the small space as they recounted moments from the show. Minseo mimicked one of the MCs, drawing giggles from Yeseul and Sojin, while Hayeon shared her favorite performance of the night.
Hayoon listened quietly, her thoughts lingering on the image of Ni-ki standing on stage, accepting his award with a mix of pride and humility. She didn't mention their conversation to anyone, unsure of how to describe the fleeting connection they'd shared.
Jiwon, ever observant, noticed her silence. "Hayoon," she said softly, drawing her attention. "Are you okay?"
Hayoon hesitated for a moment before nodding. "I'm okay, unnie. Just...thinking about everything."
Jiwon gave her a knowing smile. "That's good. It means it mattered to you."
Hayoon nodded, her leader's words settling in her heart like a gentle reassurance.
As they prepared to head to the practice studio, Hayoon felt a renewed sense of purpose. Last night had been a glimpse into the world she was striving toward—a world filled with lights, music, and moments of unexpected connection. It was a reminder that her journey, while challenging, was also filled with beauty and possibility.
And for now, that was enough to keep her going.
