the bell rings, and kaia grabs chloe's hand to walk to the library.

"dude, yesterday was a one time thing. what if he tries to talk to me again?" kaia asks nervously.

"just ignore him. or i'll change the topic. stop stressing about it." chloe laughs.

the girls enter the library and sit down with nick and chris.

"how you feeling, babe?" nick asks kaia.

"like shit. james never showed up, i'm scared he's gonna pop up from around the corner or something." kaia jokes.

"we'll be right here with you." chris adds.

"is matt coming here?" kaia asks.

"not sure. he's probably still gonna stay away for a bit and give you space unless you say otherwise." nick answers.

"chris, what did you say to him this morning?" kaia turns her attention to chris.

"we just talked about what happened last night. he said he's not gonna start acting like anything changed." chris replies.

"phew, good." chloe rubs kaia's back.

the two girls are cuddled up in the bean bag chair as always. they're sharing airpods and listening to music.

nick, nate, and chris are working on school work together when chris notices his phone light up; a text from matt.

"nick, we need to go outside right now." chris stands up from his chair.

"what's going on?" kaia takes out her airpod.

"james is outside with matt. we're leaving." chris leaves the library, nick, kaia, and chloe behind him.

the group practically runs outside and they see matt standing by the van, and james getting out of his car with a black eye and tape holding his nose in place.

they approach matt and stand next to him.

"james, you need to leave." kaia shouts at him.

james stops walking once he's only a couple meters away.

"why? so you can go fuck matt and act all innocent?" james argues.

"you know that never happened. you're the one that cheated on me!" she stares at him.

"so? you know you wanted him the whole time and i was getting sick of it." james spits.

"james, you need to get back in your car and drive away." matt steps to the front of the group.

"fuck are you gonna do? start drooling and dreaming about fucking someone else's girl? that's the problem with you bitch ass youtubers, you think you can just get whatever you want." james yells at him.

"just say that you're broke, miserable, and jealous." matt responds.

"matt." nick smacks his back.

"say that again, pussy." james takes one step forward.

by now, a crowd of students had formed outside. everyone saw the parking lot from the window of their classes and ran outside to record and watch.

"what? you gonna hit me? and have your face all over the internet attacking someone? good luck having a fucking future." matt mocks him.

james lunges forward and tackles matt to the ground.

chloe springs towards them and grabs james' hair, yanking his head backwards.

"kaia!" she shouts.

kaia stomps james in the face with her combat boots. james immediately falls off of matt and holds his face in tears.

matt stands up and nick steps forward. nick grabs james by the shirt and pulls him to stand up.

"call me a faggot again." nick says to james who has tears in his eyes.

"dirty fucking fag." james spits on nick's face.

nick elbows him in the throat as hard as he can, and james falls over again.

nathan cheers for nick and high fives him.

"that seemed like a bit much." chloe says.

chris steps forward and kicks james in the balls. he cheers and raises his arms.

"yeah! i helped!" chris says happily.

"chris." nick hushes him.

the principal walks outside and starts heading towards them. matt unlocks the van and they all pile in.

he drives away, knowing he's going to have to face his parents later.

"we're all gonna be suspended." nick laughs.

"so what? a free week off of school before our trip." chloe says.

kaia is sitting in the far back with nick, chloe and nate in the middle row, matt and chris in the front.

kaia hasn't been in matt's van since right after their fight. she's also practically never been in the backseat; matt always had her in the front.

she looks around and stays quiet most of the time that matt is driving.

"where are we going?" nate asks.

"food?" matt suggests.

"yes. can we get wingstop?" chris asks.

"at 10am?" nick asks.

"denny's?" chloe chimes in.

"yup. we're going to denny's." matt agrees.

"fine by me." nick says.

matt drives to denny's and parks the car. they all get out and kaia almost trips getting out because chris always leaves his shit in the car.

matt was standing by the driver's door when kaia trips, and catches her by her hands.

"thank you." she mutters, heading inside with everyone and not saying anything else to him.

they all sit down at a big empty table and a waitress comes by to get their drink orders.

"i gotta go to the bathroom." kaia says, excusing herself from the table.

"so. matthew." chloe looks at him.

"um.. yes?" he asks nervously.

"tell me what's going on." she says.

"with what?" he looks around, confused.

"take a guess." she stares at him.

"i have no idea what you're talking about." matt shrugs.

"with kaia." chloe reminds him.

"what about her?" he asks again.

"you planning on doing something? talking to her? fixing things?" she interrogates.

"no? we're still not talking. yesterday didn't mean anything." matt replies.

"i mean, we did beat up james for you. now you don't have to thank me, but once she's less nervous, maybe you should talk to her." chloe suggests.

"i'm not just gonna talk to her. i'm leaving her alone like she wants. she still hates me." matt sighs.

"yeah, she hates you so much she kicked her ex boyfriend in the face so he wouldn't hurt you." chris adds.

"she would've done that for any of us." matt rolls his eyes.

"especially you." nate teases him and tickles matt.

"enough. you guys are weird. i'm not talking to her." matt stands up.

"i need to piss." he leaves for the bathroom.

the bathrooms here are around a corner and down a little hallway, so from where their table is, nobody can see it.

right as matt turns to go to the men's bathroom, kaia leaves the women's one and almost bumps into him.

"sorry." she looks to the ground and tries to ignore him.

"hey, can i just say something real quick?" matt asks.

she stops walking and turns around to make eye contact with matt.

"sure." she answers.
