"mom!" kaia leaves her room with james looking for her mom.

"i'm in the laundry room!" she hears her mom shout back.

james follows kaia through the house, she stops at the laundry room door.

"what time is willow gonna be here? james has to go home in a few hours and he wants to meet her." kaia asks.

"she'll be here around 4. i still have to clean up her room a bit. last month when she was here i never cleaned it after she left." kaia's mom answers while putting a load of wet laundry into the dryer.

"we can clean it." james speaks from behind kaia.

kaia looks back and slaps his shoulder.

"great idea. thank you james. see? isn't he the best?" kaia's mom asks.

"the best." she rolls her eyes and takes james to willow's room.

"wow. lot of toys." james laughs.

"well, she is 4." kaia shrugs.

james walks over to willows bed and starts cleaning toys off of it and making the bed. kaia decides to start putting willow's clothes away and cleaning off shelves when she notices something.

it's a framed picture of kaia, willow, and the triplets at her 2nd birthday. kaia was holding willow and matt is smiling and kissing her cheek while nick takes the selfie.

they looked like a little family. she moves quickly as to not alert james, but she takes the picture out of the frame and stuffs it in her pocket, shoving the frame back on a shelf hidden in willow's closet.

after about an hour, the pair finish cleaning her little sister's room and as her mom walks by to check on them, the doorbell rings.

"i'll get it." kaia sighs, sweaty from cleaning for an hour.

james follows her to the front door, and she opens it to see her dad holding willow.

"willow!" she smiles and takes the child out of her fathers arms in a big hug.

"i missed you!" willow shouts, hugging her big sister so tight she didn't even have to hold onto her.

"i missed you too." she hugs back tightly, setting her down.

"guess i'll get going. see you all later." kaia's dad waves goodbye to them.

"bye, dad." kaia replies.

"who is this?" willow asks, pointing at james.

"this is my boyfriend. his name is james." kaia coruches down to willow's height.

"what about matt? is he here?" willow asks with a smile.

kaia looks at her mom and james not quite knowing what to say.

"no, willow. i'm sorry, he isn't here." kaia smiles at her.

"oh. what about nicky and chris?" she asks and jumps around.

"they're also not here. do you want to see nicky and chris?" kaia asks.

"yes! but i want to see matt. when is he coming?" willow asks.

"baby, matt can't come over today. he's busy. but we can see chris and nicky if you want." kaia suggests.

"uggghhhh. fine. but i want to see matt tomorrow, then." willow smiles.

"we'll see. go see mommy, she'll get you some food." kaia stands up.

willow runs over to her mom and they enter the kitchen together. kaia turns back to james and he's just smiling awkwardly at her.

"sorry about that. last time she was here, all three of them were, too. she was supposed to visit when school started but my dad cancelled." kaia explains.

"it's okay. she's just a kid." james insists.

"do you wanna see them? or do you wanna be alone today?" kaia asks him.

"i'm always down to see them. i don't care." he answers.

"i'll text nick." she nods.

james helps kaia pack up a bag for willow, and they all hug her mom goodbye, piling into james' car. they start driving and willow is very talkative from her carseat.

"what's your name again?" willow asks.

"my name is james." he answers.

"there's an idiot in my class named james." willow giggles.

"willow! we do not talk like that. don't use potty words." kaia turns around to look at her.

"fine. whatever." willow crosses her arms.

kaia laughs and turns back around in her seat.

"i like your car better than matt's. his is big and ugly." willow says after a couple minutes in silence.

"willow. don't say ugly." kaia warns her again.

"i'm just saying." she shrugs and picks up one of her toys.

"i like my car, too." james laughs, looking at willow in the mirror.

"sorry." kaia whispers to james.

he smiles at her and shrugs, implying he doesn't care.

after all, she is just a kid. she doesn't know that she shouldn't bring up matt around kaia's new boyfriend.

all willow knows is that she has 3 uncles that all look the same. and that she loves matt the most. those two always bonded. kaia used to watch them playing together and think how good of a dad he will be one day, and how lucky his future wife will be.

they pulled into the triplets driveway and willow got excited to see their house again once she recognized it.

james and kaia got out and she walked around to willow's side of the car and unbuckled her from her car seat.

kaia carries willow up to the door and james knocks.

they hear nick from the inside yell at chris to answer the door.

chris opens the door and his eyes widen in surprise and happiness when he sees willow.

"willy!" chris snatches her out of kaia's arms and runs back into the house tickling her as she giggles.

nick walks to the front door to greet james and kaia as they walk in and close the door.

"so, how are you guys?" nick asks as the three walk into the kitchen.

"we're good. willow was super excited to see you guys." kaia smiles.

"yeah, i didn't tell chris she was coming to surprise him." nick replies.

"i can tell he missed her." kaia says.

james walks into the living room to see chris and willow.

"there's someone else that does, too." nick looks at her.

"i know. i haven't been here since the fight and i was a bit nervous even if he's not here." kaia sighs.

"he misses you too, y'know." nick lowers his voice so james won't hear.

"it's just too much right now. and things are going really well with james, i don't think i can be in a room with matt yet." she responds quietly.

"i understand that. he won't be home for a few hours so you'll be good." nick comforts her.

"can you just text him and let me know when he's on the way back so i know when we need to leave?" kaia asks.

"yeah, absolutely." nick nods.

kaia smiles and thanks him as they walk into the living room with james, chris, and willow.

kaia sits next to james and he puts an arm around her shoulder while they all sit and talk to willow.

they all hangout and marylou makes dinner for everyone. they still had a highchair sitting in the corner of the kitchen for when willow comes over.

marylou puts willow in her highchair and they all sit down to eat dinner and talk.

"how've you been, kaia?" jimmy asks.

"i've been good. i missed you guys, i haven't been here in like, a month." she responds as she takes a bite of her food.

"we missed you too, sweetie." marylou smiles at her.

"and we missed willow, too." jimmy adds.

"i did more." chris argues.

"she likes me better, bro." justin says to chris.

"nuh uh." chris crosses his arms like an angry child.

justin laughs at him and looks at willow.

"who do you like better, willow? me or chris?" justin asks her.

"matty." she laughs.

kaia covers her eyes and shakes her head.

chris makes an "oopsies" face at kaia and laughs.

"matty isn't here, willy." chris says to her.

"ok fine. i like nicky better, then." willow laughs again.

"haha! fuck you!" nick flips off chris and justin.

"language, nick!" marylou shoves his arm.

"oop, sorry." nick covers his mouth with both hands.

they continue eating dinner and marylou and jimmy are basically interrogating james the entire time, asking him all sorts of questions.

they all eventually finish up with dinner and justin helps marylou do the dishes while jimmy is in the garage and everyone else is watching tv in the living room.

about another hour goes by and everyone is watching ratatouille with willow, it's her favourite movie.

james and kaia sit together at the end of the couch, his arm around her. chris and nick sit at the other end, arguing about whether or not alfredo linguini from the movie has facial hair on his chin.

suddenly from behind the couch, kaia hears the front door open and nates voice yelling something at someone.

marylou greets nate at the door, followed by matt a few seconds later.

kaia and matt make eye contact while her head is turned around and looking at the door, james isn't paying attention.

he stops walking and just stares at her with his mouth ever so slightly agape.

she quickly whips her head back around and glares at nick.

nick slaps both hands to his mouth and stares at her, then matt.

"i forgot to text him." nick utters.

"i can tell." she responds.

matt runs up to his room, quickly out of sight from everyone. nate walks into the living room and sees kaia, then realizes what happened.

"well, shit." he sits down on the other couch.

"it's about time that we have to get going, sorry guys." kaia stands up and grabs willow and all her things.

"leaving already? i just got here." nate asks.

"yeah, sorry. i have to get willow to bed and james still has to drop us off." kaia answers, walking towards the door with willow in her arms, james close behind.

"see you guys later! i'm really sorry, kaia!" nick shouts to her from the living room.

"it's okay!" she shouts back, they walk out and close the front door.

as he's driving towards kaia's house, james looks at her.

"you okay? that wasn't fun." he asks.

"yeah, i'm okay. just a bit caught off guard." she answers, nodding at him.

the rest of the drive is just listening to music and willow yapping from the backseat.

james waves goodbye as they kaia walks into her house with willow. he drives away and she closes the front door.
