19:38, 27 March 2022The defense lined up again and once again Elle looked to Logan who was next to her. "Go get him" he called to her before the play started. Again Elle eyed the action where the Defense Line met the O-Line and there, a small gap was visible.
It was now or never, she thought to herself, and sprinted off. No one had her in sight as she pushed her way through the muscular, boxy players and suddenly found herself free in front of Joe, who looked around for a clear passing option. She sprinted on, tensing her whole body as she ran toward him.
Joe didn't even know what was happening. He hadn't even seen Elle, so fixated was he on finding a good throwing opportunity. Besides, her size put her under his radar.
She hit him full force, and in surprise Joe immediately flew over, the ball still in his hands. She heard Zac's whistle as she rolled off Joe's body lying on the ground, out of breath, and loosened her helmet.
The defense immediately came running to her, Sam pulled her to her feet and they all patted her helmet appreciatively. She had done it. She had finished Joe's drive with a sack.
Joe, who had also gotten up by now, pulled the helmet off his head and stood with her. "Not bad" he grinned at her. She returned the grin and winked at him. "I said I'd kick your ass".
"Fifteen minute break for everyone. After that it's Elle's turn to do her drives" Zac called from the sidelines before waving Elle over. She pulled her helmet off her head and jogged out to him.
"Not bad, Elle. You really sacked him" Zac patted her appreciatively on the shoulder before handing her a water bottle. She smiled her thanks before taking a big gulp.
It was only now that she spotted the man next to Zac and even though she had only seen him once, she recognized him immediately. "President Brown,...sorry, I didn't see you at all" she stopped drinking and almost choked. The older man laughed as he held out his hand, which Elle immediately shook.
"Call me, Mike, my child. It's good to see you again. I've heard a lot of good things about you" "thank you very much. I'm glad to hear it" Elle smiled happily.
"And you can play as well. I asked Zac here before who the new defense player was and was totally amazed when he told me it was you. I'd give you a contract right now if that were possible" Mike laughed.
"Well, being on the sidelines is enough" Elle replied with a shrug. "Mike, you really need to stay if she's going to play quarterback in the offense now. She'll really intrigue you if you thought that was good just now" Zac explained. "Oh, I wasn't planning on leaving, dear" Mike grinned at Zac.
Elle politely said goodbye, thanked Mike again for coming, and walked over to the rest of the players who had gathered at the bench and were resting. She congratulated the defense for playing well before sitting down next to Joe.
"well, looks like you already have a fan" he pointed the water bottle at Mike Brown, who was still chatting with Zac. Elle shrugged her shoulders. "If I were a man, I would have gotten a contract" she smirked.
Joe laughed. "I mean, not unreasonably. You played really well" "thanks, I know" she winked at him. "And now I'm about to show you how to really play quarterback" she grinned at him. "I'm excited and kind of offended that I can't do anything about it" Elle laughed. "You just have to trust your teammates" she shrugged.
"oh, I do. After all, they only have to stop two drives by you for us to tie. I'm sure they can manage that" Joe smirked. "We'll see, Burrow. We'll see" she patted him on the shoulder before standing up. "Have fun in the crowd. I'm going for the win now" she bowed before running back onto the field and calling the offense to her.
Grinning, Joe looked after her. He was really excited to see her play now and couldn't get enough of the sight of her in his jersey.
While Elle joined the offense team to discuss tactics, Joe joined the defense that would now play without him, but on his behalf.
"You guys just saw for yourselves that Elle isn't too bad at football and I've seen her throw a ball. So don't underestimate her and give 110%, got it? I want to win this" Joe added after Logan's briefing before the players lined up and Joe had to go to the sidelines.
Things got off to a good start for Elle. Her first throw on the first drive resulted in a first down as Tee fished the ball out of the air and wasn't stopped by Jesse until the 32 yard. So she had already made 18 yard on the first try alone.
Joe watched nervously as Elle showed no problems at all in getting to the 10 yard line, only needing three downs once, and coming dangerously close to a touchdown on her very first drive. If this continued, she would score in all four drives with ease and thus win!
However, the first attempt from the 10 yard line was a failure. Elle threw the ball too high and neither Tee nor T.B, standing in the end zone, could reach it, which is why it flew out of bounds.
At least it wasn't an interception, Elle thought to herself as she lined up for the next play. She would absolutely have to make the points.
The second try, however, worked out just fine. She spotted C.J Uzomah in the end zone and with a precise pass, the ball landed in the arms of the TE, who held on to it before being brought down by Sam. But it counted, Elle had her first touchdown.
The second drive didn't go so well. Although the offense again got to the 25 yard line, this time the defense was very good and neither Elle, who threw the ball twice out of bounds because the WRs were too well covered, nor Joe Mixon, whom she handed the ball to so he could squeeze through the defensive line, managed to go 10 yards in the four downs.
So with no points, they went into her third drive. She would now have to score touchdowns in both drives to still win.
This time luck was on her side again. With three of the same plays, Joe Mixon even got through the defense line twice on first down and beyond the 10 yard line, and a good catch by T.B., which was stopped by Vonn at the 5 yard line, Elle and the offense were only barely away from a touchdown.
But again the first attempt to throw into the end zone flew out of bounds as Ja'Marr just barely got his fingertips on it.
The second attempt ended with Joe Mixon in the defensive line, who this time had him on screen and did a special good job of blocking, so they got two more yards but still didn't score a touchdown.
Elle took a breath. She had two more attempts to get the ball into the end zone. She would make it, she had to!
But when she had the ball and looked around, she didn't spot a receiving option. Her WRs were man-covered, C.J and the others were busy tackling and blocking. Joe Mixon couldn't be seen at all in all the hustle and bustle.
Suddenly she spotted the smallest gap on the edge of it all and took a deep breath. This was her chance.
She sprinted off, squeezing the ball tightly to her so as not to lose it. Suddenly, in the corner of her eye, she saw someone running at her from the side, but with a deft turn, she dodged her opponent.
But she wasn't through yet, in front of her suddenly stood D.J Reader, ready to block her and she was getting ready for the collision when an offense player suddenly came shooting from the side and knocked him out of the way. Elle picked up her pace and heard the whistle.
Exhausted, she dropped the ball and looked around her. Lou, the defensive coordinator and referee, raised his hands. Touchdown! She had really made it.
Immediately, the whole offense team came up to her, high-fived her, patted her helmet appreciatively, and congratulated her on the successful play.
The score was already tied, so she would not lose, but if she wanted to win, she would have to give everything in the last drive.
BTW just wanted to say that I have absolutely no idea if the plays I'm describing are correct or not. If someone finds some logic mistake, please comment and I will change it!!And comment what you think!!
Thanks for 24k reads, it's amazing!!
Question: what's your favorite book of all time (not Wattpad)?
my answer: it's hard because I read so many good books. But I think my all time favorite books are „a street cat named bob" from James Bowen (it's a real story about a ex junkie who finds a cat in his building and names it Bob. And Bob helps him to get back to a normal life) and all of the Nicholas Sparks books, they are just great!
