Prologue (Added in so make sure to READ)
My eyes stayed locked onto the streets of the marketplace. He was late.
Worry started to wash over me like a bottle of Mom's perfume that made me sneeze. He didn't leave. Did he? No. He promised.
A hand rested onto my shoulder, causing me to rip my attention from the street. My eyes met up with a pair of dark green eyes, who looked confused. "Mika, why are you still here?" my father asked.
"Kong hasn't shown up yet" I whined "He's supposed to teach me to move a rock today."
"Hmm" Dad sighed before looking at the street, my own eyes soon following his gaze.
I grew impatient, he could only teach me twice a week and I was told not to bend until then, so energy was bouncing through my body like a bouncy ball. "He didn't leave..did he?" I asked, my head facing the markets.
"No! Of course not, he might have slept in my darling" Dad spoke before ruffling my hair. Scrunching up my nose, I looked up at him "Are you lying? You always lie when you ruffle my hair" I spoke.
His eyebrows shot up in surprise "Honey, he'll be here" he spoke before adding "and anyone who would lie to you, is not a person you want in your life, remember that"
I gave him a smile before a voice rang behind me. "Mika, are you ready?". I turned and there was Kong and my mother, who had a smile as she handed him a basket of goodies.
"You planned this!" I cheered pointing at them. Kong smiled, his white hair shinning. "Let's go learn to move some rocks".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The marketplace is a very busy and complex place.
The mornings are filled with adults grabbing a quick bite to eat, maybe few students but its quite quiet. The afternoon is when things change. Things shift from everyone from adults and students grabbing lunch or maybe adults grabbing things for dinner. Heck you even see animals begging for food. Nighttime is different, you see small groups of couples eating bits of food together.
At the moment, it was almost noon and the market stayed empty, which worried me.
Without business, my family will lose everything we have, which isn't much. We had to stay above the water, maybe even on a boat or else we will sink and we can't. We were almost forced to move to the lower ring but my mother sold some her clothing along with expensive plates.
I sigh and rest my elbows onto the counter. "Don't worry baby" my mother soothed sitting next to me. "Most people may be at the train station, maybe seeing if family members outside the city have come in"
She had a point, I sighed getting up from my position. "Then maybe I should take some food to the station, try to sell it" I pressed, I needed to make sure we had enough gold to last us the week. With the boom of population, food is getting more and more expensive and people didnt have the funds.
My mother took in a heavy breath "Darling, I'll let you go but promise me you won't yell at anyone like last time."
My mouth hung open, how could she even remember that day? How could she even hold it against me? It was 2 years ago! "Mother, I yelled at that guy because his Cat Owl ate our food and he wasn't going to pay!" I tried explaining myself but she gave me a look.
"Mika, you yelled at an old man yesterday because she was 'too close to the food'" she sighed before pressing her hand to her temple. Her actions lately were stressed, almost as if something was going on, but I left it alone.
Yet again, she had a point, causing me to copy her action. "Fine, no yelling and no sarcastic comments that will make me 'unladylike'" I groaned before grabbing a basket and placing food in it.
"I'll be back late" I smiled before I started down the empty marketplace and towards the train station.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Biscuits! Candy! Meat! And other treats for sale!" I cheered as I stomped my way through the heard of people.
"Oh thank god, I'm starved" an old man spoke, trembling as he handed me a few gold coins. He only has enough for one biscuit but I handed him three. A smile erupted onto his face before taking a bite.
Suddenly screeching filled the air. I turned my head only to be met with a giant chunk of earth called a train halt to an unsteady stop. As the doors opened, I felt the air stiffen as people walked out.
Instantly, both parties had a look of desperation and need in their eyes. Their eyes urging to find that face. "June!" the old man cheered as a younger woman with a baby in her arms rushed towards him. "Dad!" she cried before hugging him, tears pouring down her face.
I pulled a hand up towards my eye as I wiped away a forming tear.
Suddenly I caught a color you never see in Ba Sing Se: Blue.
I got a good look since the color slammed into me, causing me to stumble back. Before the figure could reach forward to catch me, or before my body could fall, I shot my hands towards the sides and upwards, causing a chunk of earth to rise into the air behind me, allowing me to fall onto it.
"Hey! Are you alright?" the blue figure asked. I shot the rock back into the ground before looking up at the figure who I could tell was male.
His clothing alone told me he was from somewhere else but his dark skin tone and ocean blue eyes told me even more. He was apart of the Water Tribe.
"Yeah" I spoke, hoping not to come off hostile. His eyes gazed into my green ones to the point of me squirming under his gaze. He opened his mouth to speak but another girl in blue, who looked like the boy stepped forward.
"Sokka! There you are, I was afraid the smell of meat made you leave." the girl sighed, causing his eyes to move from mine.
"Geez Katara, I don't love meat THAT much" he sighed throwing his arms into the air. The girl smiled before her equally haunting eyes found me.
"I'm sorry, is he bothering you for food? Sokka! Don't disturb the peace" the girl I guess who was called Katara growled. "See? I already told you rules suck" a small girl in green clothing sighed. Her eyes did not meet mine but I sensed her gaze on me, somehow.
"No! He really didn't, either way, I'm selling it" I spoke up, causing Katara to quiet down. "Then give me a piece of your finest meat" Sokka cheered, handing me a few bent gold pieces. I gave a firm nod as I handed him the meat, maybe an extra piece than what he paid for.
God, mom would be so PROUD of me.
Then a boy in orange stepped forward, a look of pain and sadness covering his young features. An arrow in the color of blue wrapped over his head and into his clothing to where they poked out from his sleeves. Then it hit me.
"You're the Avatar!" I spoke loudly before scolding myself. I should draw attention to them, they don't need it.
His face turned a shade of pink before shaking his bald head. "Yeah..I am, you wouldn't have happen to see a large flying bison?" he asked, his face serious.
I shook my head just like he did "No, I'm sorry, but I'll keep a look out"
"Well thank you for feeding my brother, you see he gets crankier than usual without food" Katara giggled. I gave a small smile her way.
"Hello, I am Joo Dee" a woman spoke, causing the four teens to turn around.
I took this as my chance to leave, there was still money to be made and I needed to make sure it was made.
