19. sober up

joshua slowly woke up, groaning as he rubbed his eyes. he looked around, trying to remember where he was. and it started hitting him.

he was in yumi's room.

on yumi's bed.

but where was she?

he slowly got up, his hand on his head. he felt like his head was about to explode.

"why did i drink so much?" he groaned as he stood up.

he walked into the bathroom, finishing his morning routine. walking into the kitchen, he noticed yumi cooking something.

"morning," joshua greeted.

"good morning!" she smiled at him. "hangover soup?"

"yes please!"

as he started eating, yumi stared at him with a smile on her face as she drank her coffee.

"so... about last night..." yumi began carefully, her eyes flickering toward him with curiosity.

joshua's face immediately turned pink. "oh, no. did i say something embarrassing?" he groaned, rubbing his forehead.

yumi couldn't help but chuckle at his reaction. "well, you confessed your undying love for me." she teased.

"w-what?" he chocked on his soup.

yumi patted his back as she laughed.

"i'm kidding!" she laughed. "well, you did say you wanted me to be yours."

joshua's eyes widened, and he looked down at his soup, trying to hide his embarrassment. "ah... i remember now..."

yumi smiled softly. "it's okay, really. i think it was sweet, but i wanted to hear it from you when you're sober."

joshua paused, his heart racing a little as he looked up at her. for a moment, he forgot about the pounding in his head, lost in her gaze.

"i mean it, though," he said quietly. "i don't care if i was drunk. i want you to be mine, yumi. sober or not."

yumi's smile grew, and she reached across the table to take his hand. "really, joshy?"

"really, yumi." he smiled. "i'll make sure to ask you to be mine in a better way."

"i'll be waiting." she hugged him.

they sat in silence as they ate their breakfast. later, they both got ready to head to work. joshua was dressed in a black shirt and blue jeans, while yumi was dressed in a white collared shirt, a black v-neck sweater on top, and gray wide legged pants.

they got in joshua's car together and started driving to yumi's company first.

"are you sure you'll be able to practice?" yumi asked as joshua stopped his car in front of her company.

"i'll be fine," he answered. "text me when you're done, okay?"

"i will," she said, giving him a kiss on the cheek and getting out of the car.

joshua watched as yumi walked into the building, her steps light and confident. he couldn't help but smile, and his heart was racing as he remembered the events from last night.

he took a deep breath as he shifted his focus on the road ahead. he had a practice session to get to, and he knew he wouldn't be able to focus. his mind was on yumi, he was thinking of a nice way to ask her to be his girlfriend.
