Part Eighteen
00:11, 30 May 2012“Hey” He smiled, pleased to see me.
“Hi” I brushed past him to collapse on the sofa.
“I thought you’d just woke up?” He asked, wondering why i seemed so tired.
“Yeah, i jogged here though”
“Oh, dedicated” He said, shutting the front door and then following me through to the lounge.
“Just wanted to do a bit of exercise, clear my head” I nodded, still catching my breath.
“Fair enough” He locked eyes with me and reached out to take my hand in his. “Es, you know i’m sorry for-“
I cut him off, not wanting to hear it. “It’s fine Nathan, just leave it”
“Okay” He dropped my hand and his face had a shadow of sadness clouding it.
“Sorry”
“Don’t be. I know what i did was wrong and i shouldn’t keep bringing it up”
“No. No, it’s good that you’ve acknowledged the problem and not just ignored it”
“Mhm”
“You look better than you did yesterday”
“Thank you. I’m sorry you had to see me like that”
“I just want you back how you were”
“Me too”
“Good” A silence fell between us and i broke it with the offer of making some food, he rejected the offer and suggested we go out for lunch. Within the hour we were already at a little cafe which had been an amazing find, tucked away down a back street. It served all sorts of rich chocolate cakes and exotic smoothies and cocktails.
I ordered the powerful pomegranate punch and Nathan the same.
“This is amazing” He smiled, slurping it down noisily.
“I know” I laughed at the childish amazement in his eyes as he tasted the expolsie flavours which seemed to roll one after the other into something brand new yet equally delicious.
“Thanks for coming to see me by the way” He commented.
“S’okay” I nodded, taking another sip of my drink.
“So what was this about Max saying we’d spoken?” He asked, tilting his head to one side inquisitively.
“He said that he’d spoke to you but he couldn’t tell me what about and i’d have to see you for myself”
“Oh” he frowned.
“I know”
“I guess he just didn’t want us to fall out or something”
“Probably. You know what Max is like, he’s a little peacemaker.”
“He hasn’t spoke to me since that day” He stared into his now empty cup sadly.
“He will do. He’s just mad.”
“He has a right to be”
“Well now that we’re okay he’ll have more of a reason to make it up with you.”
“Mhm”
“Shit happens.”
“Yeah but it was me being stupid, my own fault”
“Come on, lets go to the park” I got up quickly, almost knocking my chair to the floor in my enthusiasm to get going.
“Alright”
“Come on!” I grabbed his hand and ran out of the cafe, waving a goodbye to the woman behind the counter.
“Chill!” He yelled before breaking into a laugh and running after me. The park wasn’t far away, about 2 minutes if we sprinted but knowing Nathan like i do it wouldn’t be easy to drag him all that way.
