Chapter 32

11:28, 17 August 2016

It was exactly six weeks before Adelaide returned to New Orleans, leaving Mystic Falls and Salem behind her.

To say that the town of Mystic Falls had changed was an understatement but she wasn't in town much simply because she didn't want anyone to know she was there. If they knew it wouldn't be too long before Elijah knew as well. She had visited Adelines grave and tidied up the mansion she owned. When she heard the news of Katherine dying, she knew that they wouldn't be long anymore so she left the town and went to Salem.

It was there that she heard the news of Davina passing. She was frustrated and angry because of what happened and 'terrorised' the city. She didn't want to but she lost control and the city was terrorised by the four elements. There were heavy storms, fires all around, dry ground even though the heavy rain. It didn't take long for the news to actually hit international news and knew that if she didn't go to NOLA, they would come to Salem.

She and Niklaus kept in contact but whenever Elijah called she only picked up to hear his voice. She never answered his questions when he asked them and after a while he gave up calling in hope she would answer so he just told her stories. Last time he called he yelled though.

"Adelaide, please answer." He started off, softly.

"Adelaide, please, I'm begging you. I need to hear your voice. I need to know you're okay!" He was getting frustrated. He kept on talking until he started yelling.

"Damn it, Adelaide! Just answer! I'm done begging! Don't ignore me! Yell, scream! When you come back, hit me but please don't ignore me!" After he yelled, she hung up.

Driving past the city line, she rubbed her ever growing stomach and said soothingly. "Don't worry, I'm here for you."

The babies both kicked, which happened rarily but they did and she giggled at the feeling. While she was sure it hurt like a bitch to some, to her it felt like butterflies fluttering. It felt funny but nice because it showed they were still alive and kicking- literally.

She sped to the Compound, where Klaus told her to come when she saw him. When he saw her, a smile krept up his face. "Adelaide, love. Come here!"

She smiled as she walked to him and gave him a big hug. "What has gotten into you to make you be in such a good mood?" Just then, Caroline Forbes walked down the stairs. "Is that?"

"Adelaide!" The young, blonde Vampire yelled before hugging her.

"Caroline. Surprised to see you here. How long have you been here?" Adelaide asked, pushing back. She looked her up and down while the other Vampire did the same. "Not that it isn't great to see you. I've missed you."

"I've missed you too. You look great, you'll be a great mother."

"Talking about babies- my babies- I was wondering about something Klaus?" He looked at her in full attention. "I was wondering if you'd be the Godfather? And Caroline, will you be the Gdmother?"

"Of course." Caroline answered.

"It would be my pleasure but correct me if I'm wrong, shouldn't Elijah help decide?"

"It was Elijah's idea to have you as Godfather. He told me I could choose the Godmother. I would've chosen Davina but she isn't here anymore. Don't think your second best, Caroline, because I was going to have you fullfill the role of aunt anyway."

"It's okay. I don't care if I'm second best or not, to Klaus I'll always be first and that's what I care about."

"As long as you know it, I'm happy." Klaus said, kissing her cheek. "Where's your bag?"

"In the car. Hey, Klaus, I'm going out for a bit. I'll be back later."

"Do you-"

"No, I need to do this alone. Bye." She walked out just as Elijah walked in with Rebekah. "Elijah. Rebekah."

She could hear him breath her name and she knew he was about to go after her when Klaus stopped him.

"Give her some space." Klaus urged.

"I have, for the past six weeks." Elijah snapped.

"Then you won't have a problem with a few hours extra. She's going to visit Davina, she should do that alone." Caroline said in a soft tone. "She'll be back later, she told us herself. She won't lie about that."

She blocked them out after that and walked to the Lafayette Cemetry. She searched for Davina's grave which didn't take too long. Once in front of it, she knelt down and muttered a quick spell she knew that 'honored' the spirits.

"That was for you, Dav." Adelaide mumbled. She looked up and touched the name. "I'm sorry I wasn't here. I should've been. I want you to know I'm proud of you, though. You were very strong. You'll never know how proud I am of you." She chuckled. "I toyed with the idea of giving my child Davina as middle name but I knew Elijah would never agree though he told me I would be free to choose the name."

She spent more than an hour talking to the grave, revealing the names of her children to it. She hoped Davina would be beside her as a spirit and laugh at her stupid attempts to joke and to comfort her when she finally broke down.

"I'm sorry, Dav. I'm sorry for everything. I should've been a better friend." Adelaide sobbed. "I'm so sorry. I promise to take care of Marcel, though. I know you 'hated' him when I left but I know you could never truly hate him. After all, you love him as if he was your brother. Don't worry about him, I'll make sure he's safe. I'll do my all to ensure that."

She didn't know if she was imagining it but when she got up to leave, she swore she could feel a gust of wind fly by her. Imagine or not, she turned around and touched Davina's name one last time.

"I miss you too, Dav, I miss you too." With those words said, she turned and left the cemetry.

Arriving at the compound, Adelaide found it odd that everyone, safe for Caroline, was gone.

"Where is everyone?" Adelaide asked.

"Running around town." Caroline answered.

"Why?"

"Danger has come. He has come."

"Who, he?"

"Papa Tunde."
