Going away
02:47, 14 January 2025New York 2009
You and Stephens relationship weirdly enough hasn't changed since that evening. You kept being friends, visiting him at work every day. Calling each other past midnight, and strangely enough it didn't get complicated, you both knew that it was nothing more and nothing less.
You wake up in his bedroom like so many mornings before, you pull a sweatshirt over your head. Kissing him gently on the forehead.
"You're late" you chuckle as he opens his eyes.
"They'll manage" he smiles. As he pulls you down beside him.
"Fine I'm late.. I have a meeting today" you say. As you once again stumble out of his bed. Slowly taking of your pants.
"Fine" he scoffs as he gets up. He's so handsome it's hard to keep your eyes or your hands off him. "My place again tonight?" He smirks.
"Twelve nights in a row.. seems like you're getting a little attached" you tease him, throwing him a shirt from his closet.
"I'm not.. I'm just really stressed lately" he admits as he starts to button up his shirt. You walk up to him buttoning up the rest of his shirt.
"You'd like to take that stress out on me?" You smile flirtatiously.
"Oh yeah" he breathes deeply. "So you'll be here?" He questions.
"Of course" you sigh.. "I have to get going"
As you're about to walk out the bedroom he grabs your hand pulling you close to him, as he kisses you passionately.
"You drive me mad woman" he smirks.
"You love it" you whisper.
On your way back to your apartment you mind lingers on the night. This man is driving you insane. The endless games, you keep coming back for more. You grab onto your keys fumbling to open up your door. As soon as you walk in you see Nick sitting by your table drinking coffee.
"You could call... it's what normal people do before coming over" you scoff as you sit down beside him.
He eyes you up and down, as his gaze locks on your neck.
"Had fun last night did we?" He teases.
You didn't even realize the hickeys all over your neck. You blush. "You could say that" you grin.
"Well fun is over, I have a job for you" Nick scoffs, as he hands you a file.
You exhale deeply as you open it, quickly scanning through it.
"She's just a girl" you sigh deeply. You're looking at a girl not much older than you.
"She's a highly trained Assassin, operating for an organization called the red room, she also goes by the name black widow" Nick explains. "You won't be going alone, I've assigned Clint Barton to help you, and trust me you'll be needing it." He adds. "You're leaving in the morning"
"Alright so what's the plan exactly, we track her down? Eliminate her?" You question.
"It's not going to be that simple, we need you to get as much information as you can out of her about the Red room, it needs to be shut down" Nick explains further.
"I'll see what I can do" you scoff. "Where are we going?"
"She was last seen in a safe-house just outside Budapest, you and Barton will surprise her there"
"You know I work best alone"
"So does he, but I think you'll manage" he smirks. As he gets up to leave. "You got this" he smiles.
"I always do" you sighs deeply.
You get to work, opening up your closet and lifting the wooden board under it. All your equipment is hidden down there, you grab a bag packing everything you'll need. Your bow and arrow, your guns and tasers. And the special suit Nick had made for you. It's a deep purple color. You sit on your bed for a while, as you throw yourself onto the bed.
For the first time in a while you don't want to go.. you like it here, your life is finally starting to make sense. At 1 am you get a text.
I'm home, you're still coming right?- Stephen
I'll be right there
You grab your jacket and your packed bag, as you take a cab to his apartment. He gave you a key so you could come whenever you wanted to. You knock on the door before you go in you know you can't stay long. You have to be at the airport at 4 am sharp.
Stephen opens the door, he's only wearing a towel around his waist. As he smirks.
"I was just about to take a shower, how about you join me. He raises his eyebrow as he sees your bag. "Moving in now are we?" He chuckles.
"Actually I got a mission, I have to go in two hours" you sigh sadly as you walk inside, throwing the bag on the floor. "I just came by to say goodbye"
"How long will you be gone?" He questions as he sits down.
"I don't know.. it could be 2 weeks, or 2 months" you claim.
"Right.. well we could just hang out until you have to go" he requests.
"That would be nice" you smile.
Stephen puts on some sweatpants as he grabs some ice cream from the freezer turning on a movie. You sit in silence just enjoying each other's company. You rest your head against his chest as he plays with your hair. You slowly fall asleep as he puts a blanket over you.
"Y/n.. it's 3:38.. I'll drive you to the airport" he whispers.
"Did I fall asleep?" You yawn.
"Yeah, you needed it" he smiles.
"Right.. thank you, but I'll just fetch a cab" you say as you get up. He steps in front of you.
"I'll drive okay.."
"It's fine I'll ju-"
"Can you stop being so stubborn for once and let me take you to the airport" he says more firmly.
"Fine thank you" you smile.
Stephen takes your bag in one hand, holding yours in his other, as you walk down to the car. You look at him all the way there. You're gonna miss him, that's the worst part, you're gonna miss everything about him. Your long sleepless nights, the mornings after. The daily meetings at his work. Teasing and driving each other mad. Yet he saw you, he truly saw you.
He stops the car just outside the airport, you get out of the car. You walk over to his window.
"Goodbye Stephen" you say sadly, as you leave a kiss on his cheek.
"You're not leaving forever.. you could always just stop by"
"Yeah.. I just don't want to complicate things"
"Right... But if you change your mind you know where to find me" he smiles sadly. "I hope I'll see you again"
"Thank you for everything..." you sigh.
"Goodbye y/n"
You grab your things as you make your way into the airport. As you board the plane you know you have long flight ahead of you. You put on some music as you look out over the city, watching as it grows smaller. It's so strange, you went from strangers to friends.. friends into lovers.. and now you're just strangers again.
After a 10 hour flight you finally land in Budapest. Clint Barton waits with a car just outside. As soon as you get inside he drives off.
"So you're the agent, Fury won't shut up about" Clint finally breaks the silence. "What do you do?"
"I'm trained in combat, archery and I've been specialized in espionage, infiltration and subterfuge" you claim. "You're the Hawkeye right?"
"That's me.. you don't have some cool name?" He scoffs..
"Just Agent Jones" you sigh.
"Alright agent Jones" he smiles softly.
"So what's the deal here, do we need some cool team name?" You ask trying to lift the spirit.
"Look I work alone normally alright kid" he grimaces, already regretting his choice of words.
"Fury told you" you sigh, raising your eyebrow.
"Yeah" he cringes.
"Of course he did" you chuckle.
"I'm sorry, it's just-"
" I get it trust me"you stop him. "It's not everyday you meet some freaky girl who's been young for over a decade" you smirk. "So what's the situation?"
"Human trafficking" he says blankly.
"What are you serious?" You're taken aback by his answer, why wouldn't Nick have told you this.
"Yeah we suspect it's mostly young girls bellow the age of ten" he adds.
"That's just sick.. what purpose , sexual? Work?" You question.
"Some Russian secret assassin training."
"Damn.. but I mean I get it-"you say, not even realizing what came out of your mouth. "god that sounded awful sorry"you exhale, mentally face palming yourself. "I just mean men never expects a girl to kick their ass" you correct yourself.
"I got it" Clint chuckles. "Just let me do the talking"
You drive for a couple hours, and you didn't expect to like him that much, but hearing him talk about his wife, and everything. It's hard not to, and he's seen his fair share of strange things, so hearing about your story didn't seem to bother him all that much.
You arrive at the safe house, parking the car a few minutes from it. You take the front door, as Clint goes through the back. You take out you gun, standing outside the door waiting for your que.
"Alright I'm all set.. in one.. two.. Three" Clint whispers through the earpiece. You break through door. Pointing your gun against the young woman, she quickly pulls out a gun as well. You stand face to face with her circling around each other.
"Lower your gun" Clint demands as he points his arrow at her.
"I'll shoot her" she scoffs coldly, looking you dead in the eyes.
"I'll shoot you" Clint scoffs back.
She hesitates for a second before laying the gun on the ground, putting her hands up in the air. "What do you want" she asks softly.
"Why don't you sit down" you say. Clint walks up behind her, cuffing her hands together. He slams her down onto the chair, tying her up.
"Tell us everything you know about the people you work for!" You demand, as tighten the ropes.
"I don't.. work for them" She grunts.
"Cut the bullshit red.. I advice you to tell us everything you know" Clint scoffs angrily.
"What is this bad cop good cop?" She chuckles.
Clint grabs her gun from the floor pointing it against her head. "Let's try again shall we!"
"I'm telling the truth.. I'm not working for them, I'm trying to stop them" The woman explains, trying to break out of the ropes.
"I don't buy it" Clint sighs, as he gets ready to shoot.
"Stop" you yell.
Clint looks at you confusedly lowering the gun.
"How do we stop them?" You ask her.
"Why don't you tie me up, and I'll tell you everything" She proposes.
You turn to look at Clint, he shakes her head.
"I don't trust you" Clint scoffs .
"Well I'm not that fond of you either.. but I promise you, all I want is to stop the red room" she assures you, she looks at you with sadness in her eyes.
"I believe her" you say.
"Well I don't" Clint scoffs.
"Please Clint.. she's not our enemy right now"
"Fine... but one wrong move I'm taking the shot" Clint scoffs.
She nods her hand understandingly, as you tie her up. She smiles satisfied as she stands up.
"Do you want anything some water... vodka?" She questions as she walks into the small kitchen pouring herself a glass.
"No we're fine thank" Clint sighs, as he sits down at the dining table. "Now tell us everything."
She sits down, explaining everything about the red room. How she was living in the states as a child with her "family". Until one day her and her sister was sold to general Dreykov. The story she tells break your heart, everything she went through. Until one day she got out, she's spent the last four years tracking him down. But they're after her, if she doesn't take them down, they'll take her down.
"I might have a way to help" you say calmly. "I'll go make some calls.. then we take down the red room once and for all" you sigh.
You go into the bedroom making a call to Nick. Explaining him everything.
"Please Nick, I trust her.. she's not the bad guy" you assure him.
"Y/n she's your mission, end her and go home" Nick scoffs coldly.
"Not happening" you say determined.
"Don't be stubborn now agent jones"
"I'm not.. im just trying to make the right call"
There's silence on the other end of the line.
"Fine, but if she gets away it's on you" Nick finally agrees.
"Thank you" you say quietly as you hang up the phone.
You walk back into the living room.
"SHIELD is in, we track him down and end this" you say.
"Thank you" She smiles softly.
