Chapter 28: Sergeant Benson
03:23, 27 October 2017Oh. My. Lord.
Kinda freaking out here.
"Liv?" Amanda asked, and I looked up from the desk I sat at, and I looked at her.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Are you okay? You are kinda looking pale." She spoke, and I ran my hands over my face.
"Kinda freaking out." I mumbled, and she sat on the chair in front of my desk.
"Why?"
"I'm the Sergeant." I breathed, and she smiled.
"Yes. You are." She chuckled.
"But how can I do this, and balance a family?! I have a 11 day old baby at home!" I exclaimed.
"And you have a bunch of people to help out! Don't worry, Liv. Everything will be okay." She smiled, but I was still nervous as hell.
I don't even know if I can do this!

I went home that night, and I was welcomed by a squealing Alex, a crying Cassie, and a sleeping Eli.
I picked up my son and kissed his cheek, before sitting him by his toys, and then I walked into my bedroom, where Elliot was attempting to feed Cassie. I walked over and scoped my daughter up from his arms, and I held her to my body, as I gently rubbed her back.
"Cassandra, baby girl, please calm down. I'm going to feed you, and your belly ache will go away, and you will be my happy little girl again." I smiled.
I grabbed the bottle from Elliot, and sat down on the bed. I held my daughter just right, and she ate hungrily.
"How do you do that?" He asked, and I smiled.
"A mother's touch." I spoke, before leaning down and kissing her forehead.
"Alright, I need to get Alex into the bath."
"Why don't you wait, El. I can give him a bath. I want to spend more time with Alex." I spoke, and he smiled.
"Alright. Sure. But I want a kiss." He smiled, and I did just that.

I got Cassie down before giving Alex a bath, and then I put him down for the night. I went in and checked on Eli.
"Eli, are you awake?" I whispered, and he moaned as he rolled over. He coughed a few times, before sitting up and sniffling.
"Hey, Liv." He yawned.
"Not feeling good?" I asked, as I went over and sat next to him. I placed my hand to his forehead, and frowned deeply.
"You are burning up, love. Come on, lets go check your temp." I spoke, and he shook his head.
"I'm fine, Liv. I just wanna sleep." He yawned, and I nodded.
"I'll bring it in here then." I spoke, before leaving the room. Elliot was drinking beer in the living room, and he looked at me.
"Hey, what's up?" He asked, and I frowned.
"Eli has a fever. I'm going to check it, maybe go turn on the shower so it's cold?" I spoke, and he nodded.
"Alright. I didn't realize that he was feeling that bad."
+++
"Hey, so what's wrong with him?" Kathy asked, as she approached me in the hospital.
"He has a really high fever. We couldn't get it down, and he was coughing and vomiting." I frowned, and she sighed.
"Anyone at school sick?" She asked, and I shrugged.
"I don't know. I was at work, and Elliot was home with the kids."
"Are you even home?" Kathy asked, her voice holding anger.
"I'm home every night. You haven't seen your son in over a year." I groaned, and Elliot came out of the room that Eli was in, and sighed as he looked at me.
"Alright. They have him on an IV since he is dehydrated, and then they are giving him medicine to take away his fever, but if it doesn't go down in an hour, they are going to start cold compresses and ice baths." He spoke, and I nodded.
"Can I see him?" I asked, but Kathy stepped in front of me.
"He is my son. Let me see him." She spoke, but Elliot shook his head.
"I'm going back in with him. Just wait out here, if he wants either one of you, then I'll tell you." He spoke, before moving around Kathy to kiss me.
He went back into the room, and I walked over to the waiting area and sat down. Kathy sat next to me and sighed.
"I've been busy." She spoke, and I looked over at her.
"What?"
"I've been busy. Elliot and you have full custody, and I didn't want to ask you guys for time with him."
"Kathy, he is your son. You make time." I spoke, as I crossed my legs and leaned back against the chair.
"Do you make time for your son?" She asked.
"I come home every night to be with Eli, Alex, and Cassie."
"Who is Cassie?" She asked.
"My daughter. Geez, you are out of the loop." I sighed, and she frowned.
"Alright, sorry. Tell me what I've missed. In everyone's lives. I know I don't talk to the older kids either." She frowned.
"Eli has a girlfriend." I spoke, and she eyed me.
"What?"
"Yeah. This girl named Kendra. She is Captain Tucker's god daughter, so that was awkward. But other than that, he is happy."
"And you and Elliot?" She asked, and I smiled.
"We are good."
"I bet he was happy about having another baby."
"Kathy, Cassie isn't his." I breathed, and she bit her lip.
"Who did you sleep with?"
"I was raped, Kathy. I didn't cheat on him." I groaned, before getting up and going to get coffee.
Kathy is a person that I can only take in small dosages. Not more than a few minutes at a time.
+++
Later that night, Elliot went to get stuff for Eli, and I went in and sat with him. Kathy was making calls to her older children, and home to her husband.
"Why is it so hot in here?" Eli moaned, and I moved the cold washcloth back onto his forehead.
"You are just sick, Eli. It will get better." I spoke, and he grabbed my hand and squeezed it tightly.
"Liv, I want to feel better!" He exclaimed.
"I know. You will. I love you so much, Eli." I smiled softly, and he wiped a tear that ran down his cheek.
"Liv, can you get my doctor? I want more ice!"
Eli was clearly sick, and it hurt me. I hated seeing him like this. I nodded and turned and left with a sigh. Hopefully he would feel better soon.
