Chapter 49: Final Year, Here We Come
22:02, 13 June 2020To Scorpius and Rose's dismay, August went by in a flash. But, before summer had to come to an end, Scorpius and Rose made sure they spent more alone time together. Scorpius had invitedย Rose over to Malfoy Manor multiple times for dinner and a round of Quidditch. Even once, it was late, and Rose fell asleep there. It was the second time that Scorpius and Rose slept together. Let's just say that Rose panicked and woke early that morning, hopefully, to Apparate home and see that her parents weren't up yet. Scorpius tried to get her to stay by putting an arm on top of her. It was very hard for Rose to leave. She had been resting her head on his bear chest, and he was all warm. But, if she didn't leave, then she would NEVER hear the end of it from her parents. Hold on, let me rephrase that. She would NEVER hear the end of it from Ron. So, unfortunately, she apparated home, and to her luck, her parents weren't up yet.
But, they weren't always that lucky. Another time, when Rose invited Scorpius to her house for dinner, he ended up staying pretty late. After Scorpius beat Ron at Wizard's Chess, Ron disappeared out of the room, mumbling something. So, this left Scorpius and Rose alone. After a night of flying around in the night sky on their brooms, and a bit of snogging, Rose and Scorpius went back inside. Before they could sense this, they had both fallen asleep on the couch. Again, they were very unlucky this time. Ron woke up that morning, and walked down to his living room to find his daughter and Scorpius all wrapped up in one another, sleeping. It also didn't help the situation that Scorpius's shirt was across the room on the floor. So, automatically Ron started scolding very loudly, and it woke Scorpius and Rose up out of a dead sleep. Long story short, Scorpius quickly picked his shirt up, and slid it on really fast, and dissaparated. When he did this, at this point, Hermione was in the room scolding Ron for walking in on them.
Anyways, today was September 1st. You know what that means. Summer was now over, and it was time to go back to school. This had been one of the best summers of Rose and Scorpius's lives. Other than, of course. Draco's Dark Mark incident, but that was resolved nicely! Summer wrapped up nicely. With the new and final school year rolling in, Scorpius and Rose were excited to see what it had in store. They knew that they were probably going to be busier than ever, with now Head Boy and Girl duties, Quidditch Practice's because they were now both Captains, and intense N.E.W.T studying. These were even more important than O.W.L's. You can imagine all the library sessions that Scorpius and Rose would have right now.
Scorpius woke up early on this new, autumn morning. He quickly showered, and changed into his school uniform. He was required to do this since he was supposed to represent Slytherin, and was required to wear his school uniform as the Slytherin Head Boy. He then pinned on his little Head Boy badge, and his Slytherin Quidditch Captain badge. After getting changed, he packed his stuff up. It was easier than ever now. Since he was 17, he could just do it all with the flick of his wand. He then placed an Extendable Extension charm on one of his bags. He took his and Rose's Firebolt 2's and put them in there. He still had to hide Rose's Firebolt from her for another month. But, with this extension charm on this backpack, you could never tell that there were two racing brooms inside. It was prefect.
After he was done packing, Scorpius headed downstairs to grab a bite to eat before they had to leave for King's Cross. As he took a bite into a granola bar, Scorpius looked over the letters from McGonagall one more time. It explained what he all needed to do today as Slytherin Head Boy. It also explained how each house had a set of heads. Scorpius read this multiple times, fully making sure and taking in all the information. By the time he was done, he fully understood all he had to do today.
***
When Rose woke up that morning, she pretty much did the same thing. She took a shower, brushed her teeth, etc. When she walked back to her room, she changed into her school uniform, and pinned on her new badges. Once she was dressed, with the swish of her wand, she packed all of her belongings that she needed for school into her trunk and bags. She then packed Crookshanks II into his carrier, and took her broom in the other hand, and headed downstairs with all this stuff.
Surprisingly, this September 1st morning wasn't as chaotic as it usually was. When Rose got downstairs, Hugo was already sitting at the table, eating a bowl of cereal, with his uniform and Prefect badge on. Usually, Rose was the first one to be all ready, and she would have to wait for Hugh as he spilled out of bed at the last second.
"This is a surprise." Rose said as she put her stuff by the door, and sat down next to her brother at the kitchen table.
"I know, isn't it nice. We actually have time to spare this morning." Hermione said. Hugo rolled his eyes.
"Don't get used to it." Hugo replied, after swallowing a spoon full of cereal.
"I just can't believe it. We have a 5th year and a 7th year. And, on top of that, we have a Prefect, and a Head Girl/Quidditch Captain." Hermione replied. She was right. This was crazy. Her and Ron thought it was just yesterday that they had dropped Rose off at King's Cross Station for her to start her first year at Hogwarts. Now, fast forward some years, and she was now the Head Girl and Quidditch Captain of Gryffindor.
"I know. But, the scary part isn't that. You have to take your O.W.L's this year. And you have two take your N.E.W.T's this year." Ron added in. This year would be stressful for both Rose and Hugo. These were the year's they had their huge exams.
Eventually, both Hugo and Rose finished eating, and the family of four left for King's Cross Station.
***
Both Scorpius and Rose arrived at King's Cross Station at the same time. They both missed each other by minutes going through the wall between platforms 9 and 10. But, it didn't take that long for them to meat up. Scorpius saw Rose's curly fiery red hair in the distance. And, at the same time, Rose saw Scorpius's, bright, striking, platinum blond hair. They locked eyes for a second, before Rose ran over to him and threw her arms around him. The train was leaving for a little bit anyways. Hugo let out another eye roll when his older sister did this action. All, Ron, Hermione, and Hugo just observed. They didn't follow her, but they watched Rose throw her arms around Scorpius, and greet Draco.
"Let me see the new badges." Rose said when she let go of Scorpius. When Scorpius sent her a response letter, she was happy for him that he had the same opportunities as she did. It was just going to be awkward when Slytherin played Gryffindor. But, for now, Rose put that at the back of her mind, and so did Scorpius.
"Then let me see yours." Scorpius responded. He was happy for Rose too. They both had been shooting for these titles since first year. Both Scorpius and Rose looked at each other. Rose noticed Scorpius's two badges, like hers, except they were green and sliver. And, Scorpius did the same, noticing Rose's, except hers were red and gold, unlike his.
After this, Scorpius said goodbye to his dad, and they did their signature half hug. Then, Draco disappeared to the other side of the barrier. Then, Rose and Scorpius walked back to Rose's parents and brother were standing, by Ginny, Harry, Lily, Caroline, and Albus.
"Hello Scorpius." Hermione said, when Rose came back with Scorpius.
"Hello." Scorpius responded. As Hermione, Rose, and Scorpius were having a conversation. Ron noticed something about Draco when he went into the wall. He was wearing short sleeves. His white, very pale skin was exposed. Ron knew about the whole incident that happened back in June, Rose had explained it to him. But, it was weird to see him like that. No Dark Mark. Strange. There was still a tattoo in the same spot, but, it wasn't Voldemort's marking. This was not the Draco Malfoy Ron knew, but, maybe that was a good thing.
A few more minutes passed. Rose hugged her parents goodbye, and her and Scorpius boarded the train hand in hand. Albus and Caroline had offered to take their things to the compartment, so they could go straight down to the Prefect's carriage. Lily had offered to do the same with Hugo's things. Lily wasn't picked to be a Prefect, like her brothers. If anything, she was crazier then them. Not Prefect material. She was a good student, but not the Prefect type. Anyways, Hugo walked behind Scorpius and Rose to the Prefect's carriage.
***
"Okay, so does everyone got that? Any questions?" Scorpius said to all the new Prefects. Each Head Boy and Girl of each house had to explain the Prefect duties to the incoming Prefects. The Heads all had many responsibilities. Many more than regular Prefects did. Pretty much for the whole train ride, both Scorpius and Rose would have things to do. This would be a time where it would come in handy if Scorpius and Rose were in the same house. They would make such a cute Head Boy and Girl couple. But, since that clearly can't happen, Rose was Head Girl with another boy in her house, and Scorpius had to be Head Boy with Allison as Slytherin Head Girl. Scorpius didn't mind working with Allison, but, he would rather spend his rounds with Rose.
"So, have you heard who the Quidditch Captain is this year?" Allison asked, as her and Scorpius were patrolling different compartments to stop any mischief.
"Actually, it's funny that you ask that." Scorpius said to his fellow Chaser. He showed Allison the second badge he had on his chest.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't notice. But, congratulations. Just let me know when tryouts are. You'll know I'll be down at the pitch." Allison responded.
"With how well we did last season, I don't even know if I'm going to modify the team that much. We just need to find a replacement for Jessica." Scorpius said back.
Allison and Scorpius went back and forth on Quidditch as they had to do their rounds. Along with Scorpius, Allison was a pretty good Chaser for Slytherin. If it wasn't for her, Scorpius couldn't have scored that much. But, unfortunately, Head duties took up the majority of the train ride.
When Scorpius and Rose finally met back up in the compartment, there was only about 10 minutes left of the train ride.
"So, how were your rounds?" Scorpius asked, as him and Rose sat down, and snuggled up to each other.
"Fine I suppose. My new partner is better than McClaggen, but not by much. He's still a prat. But, Hugo did pretty good for his first time having to stop mischief, instead of indorse it." Rose replied. She had missed Scorpius this train ride. It wasn't the same without sharing a compartment for more than ten minutes. And, on top of it, she had another sucky partner. He was just as big as a prat as McClaggen was.
"Well, I suppose mine was fine too. It wasn't the same without you though. I missed you." Scorpius said back, kissing her forehead.
"At least you have a decent partner. Allison's pretty chill, isn't she?" Rose asked.
"Yea. Basically all we did is talk about Quidditch, and how are season's going to go this year and stuff like that." Scorpius responded dully.
"Wasn't she a Chaser with you last year?" Rose continued to ask.
"Yea, why?" Scorpius replied.
"Just curious." Rose responded. She loved Scorpius, but she was still planning on her team beating Slytherin again this year. That was the competitive side that Scorpius loved about her.
But, to Rose and Scorpius's dismay, their conversation was cut off. The train had stopped. This meant that they both had to go back and meet up with their partners and help people off of the train.
All of the heads had to meet up, and they helped the first years to Hagrid to get on the boats. And, once that happened, they had to help students get on the Threstral Carriages to go up to the castle. And once everyone was up at the castle, they had to help the first years to McGonagall for the sorting ceremony. Like Scorpius and Rose thought, being Heads would require a lot more responsibility than just being a Prefect.
***
After the long Sorting Ceremony and feast, the Heads and Prefects had to help everyone back to their dorms and house Common Rooms. This took a while. But, something on the bright side did happen. Since Scorpius and Rose were now heads, they didn't have to stay in the regular dormitories anymore. Scorpius felt slightly bad for leaving Albus, but he knew he'd be fine. Besides, he could still be in the Slytherin Common Room whenever he pleased. So, after all the students were in their houses, all the Heads made their way to the Head Flat.
When Scorpius approached it, he noticed that McGonagall and the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff heads were already there. After a moment, Rose and her partner showed up, and so did Allison.
"Well, congratulations to all of you. Being the Head of your house is a great responsibility. By what you've experienced today, it takes much more responsibility than just being a regular Prefect. But, it does have some advantages. One, is that you don't have to share a dormitory with other people in your year and house anymore. You will all be staying in the Prefect Flat. Mr.Filtch has already sent your things to your bedrooms. Each of you will have your own bedroom. There is four sections, the Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Gryffindor. Each section has two bedrooms and one bathroom. And, it is all connected by a common living space. It is very nice. Enjoy, and have a good evening." McGonagall explained to the Heads, and let them explore it for themselves.
With her directions, the 8 17 year old Head Boy and Girl's walked into the Flat. She was right, it was very nice. There was a pretty spacious living room, with multiple sofa's, chairs, and a big fireplace. Branching off the living room, were 4 short halls. You could tell which one's were designated to what house, by the color of the walls and decor.
"Wow, this is nice." Scorpius said.
"I know." Rose responded, approaching him. She was so excited for this. She didn't have to go down to the dungeons to wait for Scorpius anymore, and he didn't have to go all the way to Gryffindor tower to wait for her.
First, everyone went to explore their bedrooms that they had all to themselves. Scorpius and Allison walked into the green and sliver hallway, and then proceeded to their bedrooms. When Scorpius walked into his, it was all ready for him. His things were set at the edge of his new bed. The room was a pretty good size, with green walls, and a Slytherin Serpent tapestry hanging on the wall. He then flopped down on his new bed, and enjoyed it for a minute.
Rose did something very similar. She and her dreadful partner walked into the red and gold hallway. She could tell which room was hers, her things were all at the foot of the bed. The room was very nice. It was about the same size as her bedroom at home. Except, the walls were red, and there was a Gryffindor Lion tapestry hanging on the wall. This would definitely work for the year. Rose plopped down on the bed, admiring how comfortable it was.
After about 20 minutes of unpacking and settling in, Scorpius and Rose walked out into the living room at the same time.
"This is so nice!" Rose said.
"I know. I kind of feel bad for Al though. We have shared a dorm for 6 years. But, I wont miss his clothes thrown all over the place." Scorpius said with a chuckle. Then, him and Rose sat down on one of the couches in frontย of the fireplace. He then draped a arm around her, making up for lost time on the train.
Rose and Scorpius stayed all snuggled up there for the longest. Some of the other Heads came out and socialized with one another, but Scorpius and Rose remained where they were, having simple conversations between each other. About another 2 hours passed, and Scorpius and Rose were still in that same spot. All the other heads had gone to bed. They both agreed that this would be one of their spots. Taking in that everyone else went to bed, Scorpius and Rose shared a snogg that lasted for about 10 minutes. But, as soon as that was over, they agreed to go to bed too.
Now, it's official. Scorpius and Rose entered their 7th and final year. They couldn't wait to see what it had in store. They knew that alone time was going to be a challenge this year, considering, Head duties, Quidditch practices, and N.E.W.T studying. But, they were happy to be together in one common room now, and couldn't wait to see how this year would roll out.
Author's Notes:Hey Guys! Sorry, I posted this kind of late today. After months of staying home, in my state now, it is finally safe to go back out in public again. So, I took advantage of it, and I raided Barns & Noble. I checked out a few books from the library back in MARCH, but I read those all in a week. I haven't read anything new in so long. Only stories on here for the most part. Let's just say that my wallet needs some time to catch up:) Well, it's finally official. We are in 7th year now. In the home stretch. I have loved writing this for you all everyday, and it's going to be sad once I'm done. Who knows? Maybe I'll do something after this. I honestly don't know yet. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and thank you all for all of your support. Stay safe and healthy Potterheads.
