Chapter 7: Quidditch Tryouts

22:04, 30 April 2020

(A/N: Ok, so in the last chapter I made a mistake. When Albus replied what Roses's Patronus was, I wrote "but" it was meant to say "bug." Whoopsie!)

The first three weeks of classes went by. They were the same as usual, but now the fifth years had twice the amount of homework that they did last year. Along with the new school year kicking off, meant another Quidditch season was ready to start. Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw were determined to beat Gryffindor this year. Gryffindor had won the Quidditch Cup for the last nine seven years in a row. (Mainly due to a team mostly made up of members from the Weasley-Potter family). This new season excited many students. One of those students include Scorpius Malfoy.

Scorpius woke up at 7:00 am on Friday to have a day filled with classes, and then a night of Quidditch Tryouts.

Like usual, Scorpius woke Albus up, and they went down to breakfast. When they walked into the Great Hall, everyone looked over at Albus.

ย  ย  " Why are they all looking at you?" Scorpius asked Albus.

"I don't know." Albus responded with a suspicious look on his face.

"How come you didn't tell us!" James said as he waved his brother over to where he and the rest of the Weasley/Potter family was sitting.

"Tell you guys what?" Albus asked.

"That you got your Patronus on the first try!" Roxanne blurted.

"Yea, Rose and the Daily Prophet had to tell us!" Lily added.

With this comment Albus snatched the newspaper, and saw what his family was talking about.

15 year-old wizard, sets new record, being the first to cast a Patronus Charm on the first try when learning it.

Albus Potter, 15 year old Slytherin fifth year, casted a full Patronus Charm on the first try in an O.W.L. Level class. This is the first time in wizarding history that a student casted this complicated charm on the first attempt. Harry Potter, Head Auror for the English Ministry of Magic, told us that he is extremely proud of his son, even admitting that he himself defiantly didn't get the charm on the first try.

Segment written by Ginerva Potter, Senior Quidditch Corespondent

Albus read this piece many times. Since Ginny worked at the prophet as a Quidditch reporter, she could pull strings and have this published.

"Explain!" Lily said.

"Well, um, I guess it slipped my mind to tell you. Whoops. Well, it's true." Albus responded.

Lily then playfully hit him on the arm, then Scorpius and Albus continued to the Slytherin table to eat their breakfast.

With many people talking about the subject of Albus's Patronus, Albus and Scorpius continued on with the rest of their class filled day.

***

It was soon about 4:30 pm, and Albus and Scorpius headed back to the Great Hall for an early dinner. They agreed to do this because Scorpius had to be down at the Quidditch Pitch by 5:00. Scorpius glanced over at the Gryffindor table, but there was a lot of seats empty.

"I reckon they have their tryouts today too." Albus told Scorpius as he saw Scorpius glance over at the red and gold table.

They quickly ate, then Scorpius headed back to the dorm to change into his Quidditch robes and grab his broom.

"Good luck." Albus said while he was looking at his Transfiguration homework, while Scorpius was heading out the door.

"Thanks mate." Scorpius responded.

Scorpius made his way down to the pitch, noticing the Gryffindors had just finished with their tryouts. Then he noticed her. She was sporting her scarlet and gold Quidditch robes with WEASLEY on the back. Albus's entire family was down there. Scorpius knew that James was captain. From what Scorpius could tell, it seamed that James would play Seeker again this year, Louis and Molly we're Beaters, Hugo was Keeper, and Lily, Roxanne, and Rose were Chasers. It would be another season of an all genetic-dominating Gryffindor team.

It looked like all the members of the Gryffindor team had left, as the Slytherin Captain made her way down to set up for tryouts.

When she finished setting up, Scorpius came down and introduced himself.

"Oh, hey there. You here for tryouts?" The seventh year captain Rachel Parkinson asked.

"Yes." Scorpius responded.

"Okay. Here just write you name down here, and what position you would prefer." Rachel said.

Scorpius looked down at the piece of parchment. He wrote his name down. But, he had never thought of what position he would try out for. He would take any position, really. He was just nervous because he would have to play against Rose and Albus's whole family. So, he thought about if he should put his name down for Seeker, his dad played that position. Absolutely not. James was way to good at the position, Scorpius wouldn't have a chance. Then he thought about Keeper. No, to much responsibility, besides, he would have to block Rose's throws. He couldn't do that. Beater was not for him either. So, he settled on Chaser. Out of the four, it was probably the one he was best at.

Just as Scorpius finished signing up, more people showed up to do the same. And, a few people came into the stands to watch. Soon enough, about 20 people had showed up to try out.

"Good evening everyone. I see we have a pretty good turn out this year. I can sense it, we will beat Gryffindor this year! We should start off with some simple flying drills. Three laps around the pitch." Rachel said.

With that, everyone mounted their brooms, and sped off to do their laps.

"Okay. Pretty good flying skills." Rachel continued.

"Lets break into separate groups. Seekers over there, Chasers over here, Beaters, um, go there, and Keepers at the goal posts." Rachel stated.

"I want to see the Seekers first. The rest of you, wait patiently."

About twenty minutes passed, and Rachel was marking stuff on a piece of parchment.

"Okay, Chasers next." Rachel said, waving about five people into her direction.

"Just try to score against the Keepers. I want some nice, clean throws." Rachel continued.

Scorpius along with the rest of the Chasers mounted their brooms, and headed toward the Quaffle.

About another fifteen minutes passed, with each of the potential Chasers scoring goals.

"Okay. Not bad. Just go sit over there, and I will tell you how you did once I'm done with the Beaters and Keepers." Rachel finished.

Scorpius and the others went and sat down. Scorpius wondered how he did. He thought he did pretty okay. But then it came to him, Rachel was already a Chaser, which meant only two spots were left. He wondered if he did good enough. Before he knew it, Rachel came back and said something.

"Well done everyone! I will take you one at a time and explained to you how you did." Rachel said as waving one of the potential Keepers toward her way.

Scorpius started to get nervous. It was very mixed results. Some kids came back with green robes in their hands, while others came back with a disappointed look on their face. Before he knew it, he was the only one left.

"Scorpius Malfoy." Rachel said as she waved Scorpius over. Scorpius sat down on one of the seats.

"Okay. So, your a complicated one. I've already filled up the seven spots, but you're to good of a flyer to cut. You're actually an amazing flyer, but others beat you for the Chaser position. So, I decided that you will be on the team, but as an extra. Like, if one of us gets hurt, or if we can't play for some reason, you'll fill in." Rachel stated.

"Really?" Scorpius asked. He didn't think he was going to make it. He was on the team.

"Really. Welcome to the team." Rachel said as she shook Scorpius's hand. She then handed Scorpius his green robes and jumper with MALFOY , and the number 8 on the back.

Looking at his new Quidditch uniform, Scorpius tried to make his way back towards the castle, but someone interrupted him.

"Rose?" Scorpius asked, as he saw the red-head leave the pitch behind him.

"When did you decide to try out for Quidditch?" Rose asked. She had secretly stayed behind to watch Scorpius's try out. She secretly hope he made the team.

"Oh, I thought it would be a nice change this year." Scorpius responded very nervously. Where was she, she came out of nowhere.?! Did she stay to watch me try out?

"Well, be prepared to loose!" Rose responded, as she gave a gentle rub on his arm, then nervously walked off.

She couldn't believe she just touched him, and sort of congratulated him in a way. She couldn't leave. She had to watch him. Between the muscles, Quidditch, and the new confidence, was he changing for her? NO!....Maybe..?? Rose thought about this all night.

Where Rose had touched him, it felt all warm and tingly. She had touched him on the arm. She touched him. She congratulated him. She might of liked him.

Scorpius rubbed this spot all the way back to his dorm. But, he was interrupted by someone's voice.

"How'd you do?" Albus asked.

"Oh, yea. I made the team!" Scorpius responded.

"That's great!" Albus said, but then returned to his homework.

Scorpius placed his new uniform and jumper into his trunk, and took out his homework. He didn't get much done though. He just though about her. With this encounter, and making the team, maybe this was going to be Scorpius's year after all.
