14:22, 16 August 2019"Hyung! Why are you here again?"
"What do you mean why am I here again? I'm a member of this club, too, dumbass!"
Hyunjin only looked at Minho, his signature 'bitch' look plastered on his face. "Yes, but you're here like 24/7! Don't you have class or something?"
"They all finished early."
"This whole week? Really?"
The truth was, Minho had been in the university's dance studio for the whole week. His dance mates aren't sure why he's taking dance practices so seriously that all that's left to do was to move out from his apartment and live there, like it would kill him to go around campus for a bit.
Well, it wouldn't. But meeting a certain guy would.
For a whole week, he had successfully avoided Bang Chan. He avoided meeting his gaze when they ate in the cafeteria. He avoided his friends' talks about the guy. He avoided everything that would have a connection with Chan, even Jisung and Changbin, but not in a suspicious way.
He made sure to catch a glimpse of the senior first in a room before keeping himself hidden from Chan's eyes. Every once in a while, Minho would scan the area he's in and when the coast was clear, he would sprint his way towards the studio and wouldn't come out until it's eating time or time for him to come home. But of course this time, looking straight ahead and avoiding turning his gaze to dark alleys.
Yes, he's that anxious. He's that embarrassed. And mostly, he's that pissed. He didn't want to remember any scene he was in that horrible Friday night. How could Chan kiss him and then leave him there without giving another—I should stop thinking about that stupid kiss! It was just a kiss! I've had many of those my whole life!
But even a police car would make Minho remember things that he worked so hard to forget, making him furiously blush. Heck, even kitchen knives would lead him to think of the time a dagger was thrusted onto Chan's face.
So he decided that the outside world was cruel and locking himself in the studio after every class, pretending to be engrossed in making new dance moves (which he wasn't, he was just spacing out), was the best solution he had.
"Hyung, your face is turning pink again. You don't have to overwork yourself." Felix chimed in, watching him through the room's mirrored wall while fixing his dance outfit, to which Hyunjin replied with "Yeah, you need a break. You look like a criminal who's about to get caught or something."
Oh, if they only knew. Good thing is, these two never suspected anything with how he's acting. It's a good thing he ended up here and not on any place with Seungmin who could see right through anyone's soul. That kid has serious powers.
"I'm fine. I like being here because dancing is—"
"—your passion. Yeah. We heard that like a thousand times already." Hyunjin rolled his eyes and stood up, stretching his body. "You know, for some reason, I'd like to think that you're avoiding something or someone that's why you're always here."
Minho's eyes went wide at the comment, feeling his heart beat loudly thumping. "Why would I avoid someone? I'm not a coward. And I just like being here with you guys and dancing makes me relieve my stress over... school stuff." Those words fell from his mouth way faster than he intended, but good thing he didn't stutter. He's finally gotten a hang of lying.
"You like being with us but you said we annoy you last week."
"Uh... no I didn't."
"Yes you did. You said – and I quote – 'Can you please make yourselves invisible for once? You annoy me!' right after we ate some of the food we bought you." Felix said using his country girl voice. They couldn't quite decipher how Felix's voice could change into something like that considering he had a deep ass voice.
"Well that was explainable. I was hungry that time."
Hyunjin scoffed. "Yeah. And we bought you food. Lots of it. For us to share. We used our money. We brought it for you here. We should have took our shares." He didn't forget to emphasize the words 'we', 'us', and 'our', hoping that Minho would get it.
"Okay. Alright. Geez. I don't want you guys to team up ever again." Minho heaved a sigh, feeling the slight drop of mood, probably from exhaustion. "But really, hanging out with you guys is always fun, though sometimes it's irritating, but fun."
"So you wouldn't mind hanging out later, right?"
"Of course I wouldn't, why would I– wait. Who's coming?" Minho had to know. If these two, by chance, bring along Changbin and Jisung, then he better come up with an excuse right now.
Changbin and Felix were really close and Changbin is pretty close with Chan. Hyunjin and Jisung were best friends and Jisung is also a close friend of Chan. So there's a possibility that Chan would also come with them if they'll invite him.
No way.
"Oh, just us. The three of us. The others are busy with their 'academic life'..." Felix quoted in the air, "... and we're gonna watch soccer later."
To this, Minho quirked up his brows. "Soccer? And why are you suddenly interested in soccer?"
"My cousin will play later for our team. Just gonna go and cheer for him." Felix said, now walking to his phone to play some music.
Again, Minho was surprised. Felix has a cousin? "You have a cousin?"
Felix just watched him with confusion. "What do you mean 'you have a cousin'? Wait... why does everybody keep on asking that? Don't you have cousins? Is that a Korean thing?"
"Don't be ridiculous, Lix. Of course we do. Minho hyung is just too smart for his own good that he always has to be surprised after learning about something he doesn't know about yet." Minho glared at Hyunjin who just returned his gaze with a questioning look. Sometimes Minho would just want Hyunjin to shut up.
Felix, unaware of the staring contest happening between the two, asked Minho again. "So, you coming?"
"I'll think about it."
"Oh so now you know how to think. Good job."
"Shut up, Hwang."
"Can't you just agree? You've been here for like forever. Get your ass out on the field sometimes."
So now here they were, buying snacks for the game later. Minho just bought water and some chips to munch on. Felix and Hyunjin were still arguing on what to buy.
"Wait, are you sure you're going to eat all of that?" The two were bringing plastic bags filled with drinks and foods on both of their sides.
Hyunjin shrugged. "Han and Changbin might go hungry."
"Oh. Okay so– WHAT? I thought it's only the three of us?" Minho didn't mean to shout and make some of the people look at him. He was just shocked. But they didn't include Chan's name. So maybe he's still safe.
"Yeah well we thought so, too. But Binnie texted me earlier that they're also watching. So I just told them to save us seats. I doubt that they already bought food, considering that they always ask from us when we eat together. Geez, those kids are very rich yet they still ling to us for food! Parasites." Felix replied, with the last part coming out as a whispered complaint, to which Hyunjin agreed on, examining the bags he was carrying.
But it appeared that both were wrong. Jisung and Changbin were already seated comfortably, eating chocolate bars while other foods were placed on their laps. "Well at least we can have more."
But before Minho went closer, he thoroughly looked around to see if their 'other friend' was around. He never really got the chance to meet the boy eye to eye after the incident and he wasn't planning on meeting him right now. He was still embarrassed for kissing back and pissed for being left twice.
"Hey, Lix, Jinnie, and Minho hyung. Nice to know you're finally here, this spot is the best there is! Good thing we arrived earlier than most people."
Hyunjin just chuckled at Jisung. Minho thought about what Jisung said to know if there was anything funny at all or if Hyunjin was just making himself look like a fool in front of the squirrel boy.
So this was their positions:
Jisung—Hyunjin—Changbin—Felix—Minho
Minho was always shifting in his seat. He didn't know anything about soccer, and he couldn't care less. He's just here to prove to those two idiots that he had nothing to hide and that he's still the same old Minho who liked to have fun.
And also to avoid suspicion. Damn I hate being suspected because they're always right!
But seriously, for a person who didn't know anything about this kind of sport, this is boring. He just scanned the whole area. The field was huge but there were less bleachers than what he saw on tv. Crowds were arriving and most of them he recognized from the same university. Maybe others were here for the opposing team.
Well duh? For what other reasons would they come here for? Minho mentally shook his head, frustrated at himself. And at everyone else.
They were seated on the second row and he honestly didn't know where you're supposed to be seated to have a good look on the game. But whatever, it's not like he's going to pay attention later.
He was just watching his phone, pretending like he's busy so he wouldn't look like he was being socially awkward because his two best friends are having the time of their lives while talking to their 'significant others'. Why am I third wheeling here? The four people with him were having conversations of their own and Minho wasn't listening. But when Changbin asked Felix about his cousin, Minho immediately looked at them.
"So what position is he in?" Changbin asked, watching the players walk on the field.
"Wait, your friends with him and you don't know?" Felix questioned.
I have a bad feeling about this. Minho was listening while turning to the uniformed players on the field. Their team was in violet jerseys and the last one to walk caught his attention. Oh please don't tell me it's him.
"Well Chan didn't say anything when he got accepted in the team. We didn't even know he tried out... Aha! So that's why he's always away for the past few weeks." Changbin said with realization.
Chan. It had to be Chan. Out of all the Australians residing in South Korea, Felix had to be relatives with Chan.
Chan looked good in their uniform. And he walked as if he was the best player there is. Or is Minho just exaggerating things?
"Yeah. Perks of being a good soccer player in Sydney. I didn't expect him to continue when he transferred here."
Yes. Chan just transferred this school year, that's why he wasn't into socializing at first. Everybody, including Minho, thought that Chan was just an ordinary transfer student and there's nothing to be curious about.
But lately, he's been gaining recognition because of his nice personality and pleasant appearance. The guy's also smart. He talked with a low tone, but his voice was soothing. They talked once inside the campus, but that was about entering clubs and organizations. Nothing more.
But these didn't really matter to Minho at first. He just saw Chan as someone who hangs out with Jisung and Changbin, which were friends with Hyunjin and Felix. He admitted that Chan was captivating and attractive, but he just didn't go for him as he thought that Chan looked too innocent for him.
So it was really a surprise to Minho how Chan acted the way he did on that night. But like what they say, everyone has a side that they wouldn't let others see. And Minho just got lucky that he saw Chan's other side. I wonder which side is the real him.
"He's really good?"
"Yeah. Well, he's good in anything, I guess. Chan is the best cousin ever. He's like a brother to me. Although we don't usually talk to each other since we're busy and our schedules are overlapping. Not to mention he spends his time with you guys the most after moving here."
Minho gulped. Wow, the field is really huge but the world is really small. How can he not think about Chan being Felix's cousin? They're both Australians! And how come he didn't think about Changbin and Jisung being here? Of course they'll support their friend. Geez, Minho.
The whole time Felix spoke about Chan, Minho's mind was wandering. He wants to get out. Would he make an excuse that there's an emergency? Or would he just say that he wants to go to the bathroom and then take his leave?
Minho hadn't realized that the game was already starting, if it wasn't for Felix's squeal. Meaning, he's been zoning out for a good couple of minutes.
"Go Chan hyung!"
The crowd went loud for a few moments then it was back to being normal, noisy but not that loud, as they watched the two teams passing the ball. Minho clearly didn't know anything about positions and strategies but it was common knowledge hat they must kick the ball into the net to score.
Minho just watched the players, mostly Chan, and would eat once in a while. He couldn't help but roll his eyes when the girls next to him would scream their lungs out when the ball was passed to Chan. He didn't even notice them until a little later when they started talking how awesome Chan was and how good he looked and how they want to date him. Oh gosh, they're making my stomach churn.
The teams weren't even gaining scores and yet the crowds still went wild. Minho looked around and saw just how many people were at the event. He didn't even know that people were crazy for soccer. He turned to watch his friends and saw that they, too, were focused on the field. Felix and Jisung would occasionally shout out Chan's name.
His eyes went back to the field when he saw how the crowds roared and shouted 'Bang Chan' for how many times. He saw Chan running while raising his hands with a victory smile plastered on his face. Some of his teammates half-hugged him, patting his back. Minho looked at the scoreboard and noticed the 1 instead of 0. Wow, they finally scored. He didn't have the chance to see him score since he was busy judging people.
Jisung's cheer was so loud that it made Chan turn to their direction and waved his hand, grinning widely. Dimples. He has dimples. Cute, fucking dimples. The spot they're on made it possible to see Chan's features clearly.
Minho didn't know what to do when the blonde suddenly made eye contact with him. Chan's grin faltered a bit, but nevertheless was still smiling. There was a look of surprise in his eyes. They held the contact for who knows how long until Minho snapped out of it because Felix elbowed him on his side. "You two know each other?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Of course we do. Our friends are friends so yeah, we basically know each other's names." Minho scoffed, restraining himself from stuttering. Felix just shrugged at him, but his eyes were saying something. Minho just gave him a disgusted look."Did you see it? He was looking at me!"
"What? He looked at me, bitch!"
"Dream on! He was staring at me!"
"Oh come on! I'm right here, he was obviously looking at me."
If he could just silence them by saying that Chan was looking at him, he would. Not that their eye contact was something special, it was just... so noisy. Yeah. That's it. The girls were very loud without a reason and they were too blind to see that Chan wasn't looking at any of them.
He went back to look at Chan and now he's already playing. He could feel his face heat up when he just annoyingly remembered what they've been through.
And no, he wasn't having a small crush on the Aussie. He wouldn't. He's sure that anyone who experienced what he experienced would definitely do the same as him.
The game went on with Minho's eyes only fixed on Bang Chan. When the blond would look at him, he would immediately withdraw his gaze and pretend like he was watching somewhere else. That would cause another argument between the girls beside him, assuming that Chan was looking at them. Minho lost count of the times he rolled his eyes. Felix would simply look at him when he caught them once again, and the younger would show him a knowing smile. Minho would just pretend like he didn't understand what Felix was implying.
For Minho, the game was boring. Maybe because he wasn't into soccer that much. But whether he admits it or not, Chan made the game interesting. His goals and winning smiles made something to Minho's heart. Which was very weird because they haven't even talked properly yet. They only know things about each other based on rumors and their friends' descriptions. So he just ignored it, thinking that maybe he ate too much during the game.
Chan's team won, so that meant their university won. The crowd was giving them rounds of applause and Minho could see that Chan was having conversations with the other team players, shaking hands and laughing.
Hyunjin went to him and asked if Minho could accompany him to the bathroom. "What? You're old enough to go by yourself." But he still went with Hyunjin. That's also his way to avoid Chan since he saw him walking towards them. They're probably talking at the moment. So he decided to also use the bathroom after Hyunjin. "Why didn't you just went inside when there were free stalls?" Minho was taking his time, standing and browsing his phone inside a cubicle. He wouldn't even get out if it weren't for Hyunjin's knocks.
"That took you too long. What if they already left us?"
Minho shrugged, not really paying attention to Hyunjin. Just casually looking around for any sign of a blond-haired guy. Felix had texted them they were in front of the food stall they went to earlier.
After a moment of looking around for the group, Hyunjin finally spotted them and dragged Minho to their side. He was having the time of his life by slowly walking towards his friends. Ever since that incident, Minho's heart never relaxed for a long time if he was out with other people.
Chan wasn't scaring him. Maybe a little bit. But he definitely wasn't ashamed. Hell! He made so much more embarrassing things other than that! He experienced not just a kiss, but also waking up in the morning next to a stranger and not caring a single bit while slipping in his clothes and finding the exit. But when it came to Chan, even a single eye contact would cause him to hyperventilate.
Alright now he was exaggerating. But honestly, the older could make his whole being nervous. Maybe because he saw how Chan handled all those guys with his accurate and swift movements. Chan was a bad boy, not like how others describe him.
His deep thinking didn't made him realize that Hyunjin grabbed him and now they were standing in front of his group, who are currently giving him weird looks. But now with another pair of eyes trailing on his entirety.
Minho can be really weird sometimes. It's his forte. If it was a sport, he would've been a gold medalist every time he joins a competition.
The others were talking, leaving Minho to space out on his own. They were laughing at something and Minho's head snapped back up when he heard a different voice. His eyes stared at the guy across from him, mouth slightly open. Chan was already dressed differently. How Chan managed to look good in a simple pair of ripped jeans and a statement tee, he had know idea. It was contrasting his dark image before when he was in action, his outfit mostly black and the leather jacket made him looked more intimidating.
Good thing Chan didn't notice how Minho was gaping at his presence. He was busy catching up with Felix, talking in their mother tongue. Minho couldn't help but be amazed at how they talked so fast. He couldn't deny that Chan's accent was as sexy as him. Sure, Felix sounded deeper, but he always heard him talking. With Chan, this was the first time he heard him in English. Even though he couldn't catch up on everything, he understood that both of them were talking about something in Australia.
"If I were you, I'm gonna close my mouth." He heard Jisung speaking beside him. Minho turned to look at him and was about to deny it but Jisung was already smirking at him, eyebrow raised as if he knew something he shouldn't have.
The attention went to Felix as he introduced Chan to the group, earning a respond from Jisung that they already know him. "Shut it. For formality and for welcoming Chan hyung into our circle. Who has a problem with that?"
It took all his will to stop himself from raising his hand. Great. So now I'm gonna see him always. Just great. That meant that all his hiding weren't of any use.
"So everyone, this is my cousin from Australia— Jisung, close your mouth— Bang Chan or if you'd like to call him Chris, then go. So, hyung, this is Felix and Hyunjin, I think you already know. Binnie and Jisung, of course you already know these idiots. And that guy is Lee Minho." After Felix pointed his finger to Minho who was lowkey freaking out on what face he'd use, he could see the look that the younger was giving him. He was about to say something when Chan spoke.
"Nice to finally meet you guys in person. Like, really meet you. I always hang out with Jisung and Changbin and they didn't even care to introduce me to their other friends." Chan said, acting betrayed.
"Hey, you were always busy!" Jisung whined like a child. "You always leave us for lunch and we didn't know until yesterday that you were already in the team."
Chan just laughed and boy that sounded music to Minho's ears. He just stood there, panicking. But he never showed it. What if he mentions something about the kiss?
Now Chan's gaze remained on Minho. They were just staring at each other, as if talking with their eyes. Thinking how they'll say that they already met but not in a proper way. Hyunjin noticed it, making a mental note to ask Minho about it later, and cleared his throat. "So, Channie hyung, congratulations on the win." Minho was silently thankful for Hyunjin's interruption. He didn't know how long he could keep eye contact with the blond and even if he was not feeling okay with the situation, he didn't want to turn away and lose in their mini game.
Chan broke the eye contact, loser. "Thanks. It was somehow tiring, actually."
Then Jisung suddenly said how Chan was amazing in playing while they listened. Chan just laughed it off, awkwardly accepting Jisung's praise.
Minho was now feeling uncomfortable, but something in him wasn't ready to leave yet. Like he wanted to stay and see Chan's explosive smiles while talking. He was really different from the Bang Chan he met a few days ago. If Minho didn't spend time with him after the fight, he'd surely believe that everything was just a misunderstanding and just misheard the other guy calling him Bang. That his eyes were just fooling around and that wasn't Chan that he saw.
But it was. Now Minho was curious about how and why Chan had gotten himself into the fight. Why he let people hit him in the first place when he could've immediately knocked them out, avoiding facial damage. Or how he's so bubbly and shy and then act like he's the most dangerous person in Korea, then back to being friendly and approachable. Or why he didn't want his friends to know about his shenanigans. Is he involved in something illegal? Does he work for someone?
Now Minho was curious about Chan's life.
"It's getting really late." Chan said as he scanned the surroundings. "We should probably head home. And thanks for cheering for me earlier. You guys fueled my strength." They just laughed at Chan's attempt in being sweet. Except Minho who was now not so subtle in studying Chan.
"I guess we should go. Chan's girlfriend is probably waiting for him in our apartment." Changbin casually said, making the other three jump in surprise.
"You little– you have a girlfriend? And you didn't tell me?" Felix questioned, seeming betrayed by his own cousin.
Hyunjin just watched Minho after hearing the news and Minho was raising his eyebrows at Chan. The older looked like he was panicking as he quickly denied Changbin's words. Jisung and Changbin just laughed, making the three look at them, and making Chan glare in their direction.
"Man, you're faces were epic. Of course Channie doesn't have a girlfriend. He can't even make a move on someone he likes. He's that much of a loser in fields like this." Chan was controlling himself not to strangle Jisung.
Minho scoffed loudly. "What?" He eyed the others when they gave them questioning stares, but he frowned in Chan's direction. Who were they kidding to? That jerk even kissed Minho on the lips! And that was an amazing kiss, to say the least. And now he doesn't know how to make a move? Bullshit. Chan was looking at him with pleading eyes, Minho almost cooed, but remained silent.
"So what did you mean his girlfriend was waiting?" Felix wasn't going to let the topic go.
"Oh. His most precious lap top. He keeps everything there. From our own songs down to his school works."
Silence.
"Yeah. Uh, so I'll see you guys at the university? We should get going." Chan broke the ice, feeling so much tension coming from only one person. "It was really nice to meet you properly. You, too, Minho."
Then the three left, but not without asking Chan what he meant about Minho. Jisung's voice was so loud, even though they were far away, the dance team could still incoherently hear his words.
"Okay, bitch. What was that about?" Hyunjin was fiercely looking at Minho, demanding an explanation. Minho couldn't just say that the two already met, let alone already kissed. And for some reason, he doesn't want to disappoint Chan, afraid to tell Felix what really happened.
So he just faked every response. "What was what about?"
"You know what I mean. You and Chan hyung. You seem to know each other already." Hyunjin was crossing his arms on his chest, looking like Minho's mom.
"I really don't know what you—"
Felix was the one who interrupted him this time. "Oh come on. We could see how you look at each other. We're not that dense."
Quick, Minho. Think!
"So? I bet he just finds me ethereal. I mean, I don't blame him. I could pass as a demigod." Minho confidently replied, hoping that he sounded convincing.
"But you also looked at him with something in your eyes. Tell me, are you hiding something?" Hyunjin wouldn't let this argument die down if Minho wasn't gonna give good answers. Might as well take his lying to the next level.
"Hyunjin. Have you seen Chan? He's hot and good-looking." Okay that wasn't totally a lie. Wow. The embarrassment he was going through because of that dimpled guy. He could feel his cheeks burning, but nevertheless continued. "He played really well. I'd be lying if I say he didn't look extra good. I was just attracted, that's all."
"Well, if you put it that way, I guess you're right. Chan hyung is really hands—"
"Stop! That's my cousin you're talking about! Please don't discuss things like this in front of me again. Let's go!" Felix walked away first, feeling disgusted having to hear his friends talk about his cousin's appearance.
Minho let out the breath he's holding the whole time he was interrogated. He heaved out a loud sigh that made Hyunjin look at him. Oh no not again. But he just gave Minho a smug look saying that he still wasn't clear on this. Good thing Hyunjin let go of him for tonight, not quite ready to deal with questions related to Chan.
Chan himself was already a big question mark to Minho. And the longer he actually spends time in thinking about the other, the more he got curious. Which wasn't really a good thing.
Bang Chan, what am I going to do with you?
