A Summer With You

It's the start of summer. The heat begins to intensify as the day goes on until night falls. Y/n is working at a pet shop together with her best friend, Chifuyu.

Chifuyu's at his last year in college. You are a drop-out student due to financial problems and well.. your parents never really cared about your grades so it came to this.

"Y/n! There's a customer at the desk. Can you take care of it for me?" your co-worker asked.

"Uhm.. sure! I'll try my best." you said.

You weren't really the best at interacting with people. Back in your school days, the students always saw you as a "nerd". Your hair is always styled in a low ponytail, you wear glasses, and you're very quiet.

Although they see you as a nerdy type, your grades are unfortunately pretty bad. Rarely in the line of 9 and mostly in between the lines of 7 and 8 but hey! At least you pass every subject, right?

"Good afternoon! Is there anything here that catches the attention of your pet?" you asked the customer.

"I'm looking for something that's good for a cat's teeth. Could you help me find one?" they responded.

"Oh.. sorry. I don't-" you were cut off by Chifuyu.

"I'll be taking care of this one now. Go check those little guys by the window." he said to you, smiling.

You whispered to his ear, "Really sorry, Fuyu."

He patted your head gently then sent you off to do what he just told you to work on.

"Hey little guy. Is the cage too small? I'll get another one just in case you feel uncomfortable." you started talking to the kitten who is asleep.

Noticing the customer leaving the shop, you directed your attention to Chifuyu. "How are we doing?"

"Well, it's average. Same as old. Oh right, I'll come by later at your house to help you with your studies." he said.

"No need. You're gonna go home late again just because of me." you quickly responded.

"Come on, you know I'm fine with it! Because of your parents, you didn't get to experience a lot of fun things in college.." he commented.

"Fuyu, it's not really their fault.." you looked down feeling a bit guilty.

He exhaled and said, "I just remembered something! Here, take a look at it."

Chifuyu handed you a poster about an event that will be occurring tomorrow. "That's great. It looks fun."

"Do you wanna come? They're allowing outside people." he asked, which made your eyes light up.

"Of course I wanna come!" you said, jumping around from excitement.

"Ok calm down, shorty! I don't want you to be late tomorrow, got it?"

"Yeah! I can do that." you responded quickly.

"Good. It's almost late, we should close the shop now." your best friend said as he checked his watch.

You nodded then started to help him in closing the shop.

Fast forward. Chifuyu's at your room teaching you about the lessons he learned for today from a while ago's class sessions.

He asked you a random question, "Y/n, how long have we known each other?"

"Hm? Hmm.. I met you back in high school, so maybe 5 years?" you answered.

"Alright." he said, then went back to acting like a teacher in front of you.

"Wait. Why did you ask that?" you stopped him.

"I don't know, it just popped inside my head. Anyways, you better listen to what I'm teaching you." he said, switching to a strict tone.

"Y-Yes sir!" you responded and laughed a bit.

He also laughed at how you reacted to him acting like a strict teacher. Ah what a lovely relationship between these two friends, aren't they?

Anyways, it's almost 11 PM so you told him to go home already because you remembered that poster he showed hours ago.

"See ya tomorrow by the gate. You know where it's located, right? Or should I walk you there?" he made sure before leaving.

"I know where it is, don't worry about me." you assured him then waved your hand as he exited through the front door of the house.
