Chuckie's First Prank

"MADELINE! MADELINE!" the new greenie shouts, running into the kitchens.

"Hey kid! Are you ok?" I ask concerned. If someone's hurt him I am going to be beating them up with my wooden spoon.

"I had a dream last night about a woman I don't remember. She was talking to me and called me by my name. I remember my name!" he rambles excitedly.

"That's so great kid. What is it?" I ask, feeling excited for him.

"It's Chuck!" he says, beaming.

"Congrats Chuck" Fry says, sending him a smile.

"I love it. A cute name for a cute boy" I say, pinching his cheek. Chuck blushes and slaps my hand away.

"Now that I remember my name. Can I get a nickname too?" he asks, a huge smile on his face.

"Of course. You're part of the family Chuck. Let me finish cleaning up and we can go tell Minho and Ben, and we can start planning your first prank" I reply, giving him a quick hug.

"Ok, come find me after. Alby's taking me to the slicer's hut, since it's my first day trying out jobs" he says, his smile fading slightly.

Poor kid must be dreading it. The slicer's hut is a gross place. I don't know why Alby wants him to try out that job. I think he's too young for that job. It's not a nice thing to do and it's very gory for a kid to handle.

"I will. Before you go Chuck, don't worry if you can't handle being a slicer. Most glader's cant stomach it, because it's not a nice thing to witness. If it gets too much, come find me or Alby ok?" I say, patting his shoulder.

"I will, I promise. See you soon" he says before running off to find Alby.

"Look at you mothering him already. Newt's not going to be happy that you're stealing his role" Fry says teasingly.

"Newt will live. I can't help it, he's just a kid. I feel protective over him" I reply, watching Chuck rush towards Alby in the distance.

"He's attached to you already. It's cute." Fry says, smiling.

"Someone's got to look out for him, and I'll be dammed if I let any of the older boys tease him" I say, looking away from Chuck and back to the trays I'm washing.

"You're such a mom" Fry says. I send him a playful glare, causing him to chuckle and focus back on cleaning up the kitchen.

It takes about 10 minutes to finish cleaning. I'd say it's the fastest Fry and I have ever gotten it done. I can't keep Chuck waiting.

"Alright, I'm off to go meet the boys. We've got a busy day ahead of us" I say, drying my hands.

"Yeah, pranking gladers and pissing off Alby and Newt. Very busy" Fry says in amusement.

"You're welcome to join us Panini. The more the merrier", I reply with a smile.

"Maybe some other time. I don't feel like getting scolded by the parents of the glade today. Don't get into too much trouble" he says grinning.

"Fair enough. This is Chucks first prank. I'll be disappointed if we don't get into a lot of trouble" I reply with a wink.

As I turn to walk out of the kitchen, I walk into something hard. I look up to see Gally staring at me, his eyebrow raised.

Shit. This is embarrassing.

"Sorry Gally" I say, moving around me to leave when I feel him grab my arm, stopping me.

"Where you off to in such a rush?" He asks.

"To see Chuck" I reply bluntly. If he finds out we're planning a prank he won't let me go.

"He's working with the slicers today" he says, suspicion evident on his face.

Damn it. He's onto me.

"She wants to make sure he's alright. That job is hard to stomach" Fry says to Gally.

I fucking adore Fry.

"Yeah, I'm worried about how he's handling it" I add.

Technically I'm not lying. I am worried about Chuck. What Gally doesn't know is the prank we're going to do. Chuck's very excited about it and so am I.

Gally let's go of my arm. He stares at me and I swear I notice his eyes soften slightly. I struggle to not blush.

Why am I about to blush? Pull it together Madeline damn.

"Alright. See you later Mads" he says with a ghost of a smile on his face.

"Bye Galpal" I reply. I freeze for a second, realising that I used the nickname that almost got Ben killed. Shit. I sprint off before he can say anything.

Gally's POV:

"Bye Galpal" Mads says before sprinting off.

I watch her go in amusement. I'll let her off for that, just this once.

I turn back to Frypan who's smirking at me.

"What?" I ask confused.

"You let her get away with calling you-" I cut him off before he can finish.

"Don't you dare say it Fry" I say scowling.

"Ok don't kill me. What are you doing here anyway?" He asks, holding his hands up on surrender, but still smirking.

I want to slap that smirk off of his face. What's he smirking for?

"I came to see Mads, to see how she's doing" I reply nonchalantly.

"How nice of you. I didn't know you two were close" he says, his smirk turning into a teasing grin.

"We're not" I reply, already feeling frustrated.

I hate this conversation already.

"You must be if you call her Mads" he says teasingly.

"Shut up Fry" i say annoyed.

"You like her" he says, still grinning.

"I'm going to punch you" I reply, trying desperately not to blush.

"That's not a no Gally" he teases.

He's pushing his luck. I may be closest with him, but I'll still knock his lights out.

"You're a shank. I'm going now" I say, turning to leave. I'm fed up with this.

"Don't fall too hard my friend" he says laughing.

I flip him off, instead of replying. Shuck him honestly. As I walk back to the builders, I notice Chuck and Madeline sprint off to the woods.

I smirk knowing that they're probably planning a prank. I watch them disappear into the woods and continue my journey back to the builders. Madeline corrupting my thoughts the whole way.

Back to Madeline's POV:

I get to the slicer's hut and find Chuck sitting outside, looking very pale.

"Hey kid, you alright?" I ask, looking down at him.

"I couldn't handle it" he says, looking up at me with teary eyes.

I pull him up into a tight hug.

"That's ok. Did you throw up? Do you need some water?" I ask, holding him tight.

"No thanks, and luckily I didn't throw up. Felt like I was going to though" he says, pulling away from the hug.

"Then you're already stronger and braver than most of the other gladers. Many have thrown up at the sight. Well done kid, you're very brave. I'm proud" I say, holding my hand up.

He gives me a high five, with a small smile on his face.

"Thanks. So, can we prank now?" He asks, his eyes hopeful.

How could I say no to them puppy eyes. God, this kid is making me melt.

"Yep. Let's go and find the boys. They're probably back from the maze by now and already in the woods. It's where we plan our amazing pranks" I explain, as we start to walk towards the woods.

"Won't we get in trouble for not working" Chuck asks, looking around, slightly nervous.

"Only if we're caught kiddo" I reply.

I notice Alby walking towards us and grab Chuck, hiding behind some crates that haven't been moved. We watch Alby walk past, and double check no one else will see us.

Coast is clear. Perfect.

"Now's our chance kid. Run" I say, grabbing his hand and sprinting towards the woods.

We successfully make it to the woods without being seen. I lead Chuck to where I usually meet up with Minho and Ben. Chucks excitement is practically radiating off of him and it's infectious.

We get there within a minute and find our fellow pranksters waiting for us.

"Look who finally decided to show up" Ben says with a grin.

"Well some of us aren't natural runners AND we had to hide from Alby" I sass back.

"What a terrible burden that is for you" Minho says sacaratically. I stick my tongue at him as I flip him off.

"Can we plan the prank now" Chuck says, practically jumping in excitement.

"First we need to tell them your name" I tell Chuck with a smile.

"You remember your name already? That's great kid" Minho says, high diving Chuck.

"Don't keep us waiting then" Ben says, also giving Chuck a high five.

"It's Chuck" he beams.

"That's a cool name" Ben says with a smile.

"Yeah, I love it. Now before we get started on pranking, we need to give you a nickname" Minho tells Chuck.

"Cool!" Chuck replies, his smile wide.

"Sorry boys, but I've already got one for him" I say.

"You thought of it without us!"."I feel betrayed!" They both exclaim, holding a hand to their chests.

"You'll get over it. Now listen to this, Chuckie" I say proudly.

"I love it!" Chuck says grinning.

"I like it, but I still feel betrayed that you thought of one without us" Minho says dramatically.

"Chuckie it is" Ben says, smiling at Chuck.

"Right. Time to plan our prank" I say, clapping my hands together.

"Alright. Chuckie, since it's your first prank. You can be the one to pick our target" Minho tells Chuck.

"Or target's. It can be more than one" Ben adds.

"We can prank whoever I pick?" Chuck asks, his eyes full of mischief.

"Yeah kid" Minho replies.

"Perfect. I want to prank Alby and Newt" Chuck says smirking.

Oh. Shit.

"Chuck no" I immediately try to shut it down. Does this kid have a death wish?!

"Chuck yes" he says, his smirk widening.

"That's a death wish little man" Minho says, but he doesn't look opposed to the idea.

"It's risky. I love it" Ben says, a matching smirk with Chuck on his face.

Am I the only one who realises how bad this idea is? We're going to end up on deep shit.

"You're all morons. Did you have to pick the leaders of the glade?" I ask, raising a brow.

"You said I could pick anyone and I pick them. It'll be epic. Please Maddie!" Chuck says, using his puppy eyes on me.

Oh for fucks sake! I can't say no to that look and he already knows it.

"Fine. I'm in" I say, sighing.

"Thank you Maddie!" Chuck says, hugging me tightly.

He's too cute and mischievous. I'm melting.

"Alright, what's the plan?" Ben asks.

"Well we can't swap out their shampoo with flour, since we've already done that" Minho says.

Ben and I nod our heads in agreement. We need something new.

"Damn. I can't think of anything" I say annoyed.

"There's not much around here to use" Ben says shrugging.

"I've got it! We could collect buckets of fertiliser and throw it on them. They'll smell for days" Minho says proudly.

"I love it!"."That's brilliant!" Ben and I exclaim.

"Yeah, and then when they go to the showers to clean up. We could lock them in there so they can't scold us" Chuck adds, practically bouncing in excitement.

"That's genius kid" I say.

"Right. Maddie and Chuck, you steal a bucket each and collect the fertiliser. Minho and I will grab Alby and Newt and take them to the map room. Wait outside the door and as soon as it opens, you throw it at them and we'll run" Ben explains.

"Got it. We'll be there in 20 minutes. Let's go Chuckie" I say, grabbing Chuck and running to the gardens to steal some buckets.

We sprint to the gardens and notice Zart is the only one close to the buckets. He's so focused on cutting a tree stump, he doesn't notice us grab 2 buckets and sprint back into the woods.

Chuck and I grab as much fertiliser as we can, and manage to fill the buckets to the top.

"We've got enough. Can you carry it by yourself kid?" I ask Chuck.

"Don't worry, I got it" he replies, lifting his bucket.

We try to act nonchalant, although it's difficult to hide the mischief evident in our eyes. We get to the map room, set down our buckets and lean against the door. We hear Minho and Ben talking to the two leader and second in command about their run in the maze today. After around 5 minutes, we hear Alby and Newt heading towards the door.

"Ready Chuckie?" I ask, keeping very quiet.

"Yeah" he whispers back in excitement.

A second later, we see the door start to open.

I nod to Chuck and he grabs his bucket. We both see Alby and Newt step through the doors, causing us to immediately throw all the fertiliser we collected at them.

"WHAT THE SHUCK!"."BLOODY HELL!".

They stumble out, wiping the fertiliser off their faces. Minho and Ben stumble out, gasping for air from laughing so hard. Chuck and I lose it, holing our stomachs with tears running down our faces in laughter.

Alby and Newt move their hands from their faces and look at the 4 of us. Minho and Ben are on the floor, struggling to breathe.

"You shanks are in for it now!" Newt says scowling.

"CHUCKIE RUN!" I shout, grabbing his hand and dashing away.

Minho and Ben are quick to follow. We're gathering everyone's attention as we struggle to run since we're still laughing. Alby and Newt chase us around the glade, still covered head to toe in fertiliser.

We run past the builders and I notice Gally, struggling to hide his laugh. I wink at him as we pass, and pray he doesn't notice the blush forming on my cheeks.

After around 10 minutes of running for our lives. Alby and Newt give up and head towards the showers.

The four of us sit on the ground, giggling like kids as we try to catch our breath.

"Phase one complete" I say, still breathless from running.

"That was amazing" Chuck says giggling.

"Quick. Let's go lock them in the bathroom before they come out" Minho says, helping me up off the ground.

"We're going to be in so much shit" Ben says chuckling.

"It's worth it" Minho replies grinning.

We jog towards the showers. Chuck goes towards the open window and confirms he can hear them.

Ben comes running over to us, with a spoon he stole from the kitchens. He uses the handle end, and sticks it in the lock. Jamming it so when they try to unlock it on the inside, it won't budge.

"Perfect" he says leaning against the door.

"Should we wait and listen to them struggle or get a head start on hiding?" Minho asks, his smile wide.

"We should definitely go and hide. One of the gladers will come rushing over to let them out" I say.

"Where will we hide?" Chuck asks.

"We can't in my hut. Newt has a key" I say.

"If you keep your key in the lock, he won't be able to use his one to get in" Ben says.

"Oh yeah" I say. I completely forgot about that.

We hear voices on the other side of the door.

"I can't unlock the door Alby" Newt says, confusion evident in his voice.

"What do you mean, you can't open it?" I hear Alby ask frustratedly.

"The lock is jammed" Newt says, sounding completely done.

"BEN, MINHO, MADDIE AND GREENIE. YOU'RE ALL IN DEEP SHIT!" Alby shouts.

"Actually. My name is Chuck!" Chuck shouts back, cashing the three of us to start laughing again.

"LET US OUT!" Newt shouts.

"Quick, let's go!" I exclaim.

We all sprint towards my hut. Gaining the attention of the other glader's once again. I notice one of the slopper's rushing to the showers to help Alby and Newt out.

Wow. What a fun sponge.

I quickly unlock the door to my hut and we all rush inside. I slam the door shut, locking it with my key and keeping the key there so Newt can't unlock it.

Minho and Ben collapse in my bed, grinning.

"Of course you can make yourself at home and get comfortable in my bed" I say sarcastically.

They pull silly faces at me in reply. Chuck and I settle on the floor.

"Minho, Alby was supposed to talk to me about how the meeting went, but since we've pranked him. We're going to be hiding out for a while. Can you just tell me what's going to happen to Jacob?" I ask.

Minho hesitates for a second.

"Fine. You can't tell anyone I told you" he says, clearly not wanting to get into deeper shit with Alby.

"I promise" I reply genuinely.

"Well, at first he was completely set on banishing him, because he broke the rules. Then Frypan told everyone how you felt it was too harsh to basically send him to his death. After a lot of debate and Gally throwing a complete fit because he didn't want Jacob around to try anything again, He decided to leave him in the pit for another couple of days as punishment instead" Minho explains.

I feel slightly relieved. Even though Jacob is a complete pig, I don't want to be the reason for his death.

"Alby took my feelings into account?" I say, slightly shocked since I'm not a keeper and have only been here for a month.

"Yeah. I'm pretty confident that you're his favourite. You lucky bitch" Minho says pouting.

"She's not a bitch" Chuck says to Minho.

"Thanks Chuck, but never swear again" I say to him sternly.

Chuck laughs and nods his head.

"So Gally wasn't happy with the punishment?" I ask, curious.

"Yeah. He seems to be very protective over you" Minho says smirking.

"I sense love in the air" Ben teases.

"Shut up" I say blushing madly.

I fucking wish I didn't blush so easily.

"Ooooo she's blushing Minho" Ben says giggling.

"I think Maddie's inlove with the moody shuck face" Minho says grinning.

"No I'm not, and he's not a moody shuckface" I say, still struggling to stop blushing.

"Awww she's protective over her new boyfriend" Minho teases.

"How cute" Ben coos.

"Honestly, fuck you both" I say.

"You are blushing tho Maddie" Chuck says, laughing.

"You're supposed to be on my side kid" I say, pouting at Chuck.

The teasing stops when we hear my door trying to be opened. We all freeze.

Shit. They found us.

"You can stay in there as long as you like. You shanks have to come out eventually" Newt says.

"And when you do. We're going to have a talk" Alby says sternly.

We stay silent, desperately trying to not start giggling. We hear them walk off and we finally let out our laughs.

"Well, we're screwed" Minho says, not sounding bothered at all.

"So, sleepover in my hut to avoid being scolded?" I ask.

"Definitely". "I'm never leaving". "Brilliant idea".

Sorry this chapter took so long. I was struggling to think of a good prank but it's hard when the glade has limited resources. I hope you like the idea though.

Gally and Madeline are denying their feelings, but they'll be together soon.

I love the relationship Chuck and Madeline have, but I'm dreading the end when Chuck's supposed to die. I haven't decided whether he will die or not so feel free to give me your opinion on it.

I completely forgot to write about Jeff and Clint so they'll also be showing up soon since I ship them.
