Chapter 7: Remus

19:18, 27 March 2025

I was waiting outside the girls' bathroom for Narcissa to get out. When she did, she was smiling brightly.

"Wow. What's the matter with you?" I asked with a smile.

"I'm pregnant!"

"Wow. Really?"

"Yes! Let's just hope it's a boy and everything's fine!"

I smiled and took her hand in mine, hoping just like her, that the kid would be a boy.

It was Christmas. Narcissa and I were in the train to get back home.

"We won't tell my father about the kid," I said. "We'll tell him during the Easter holidays."

"I agree."

We remained silent for some time before she spoke up. "You'll never guess!"

"What?"

"Andromeda is pregnant too! She'll be giving birth in June and I in July or August!"

"That's amazing!" I said with a smile.

"The kids will grow up together! Isn't that cool?"

"It is, indeed," I said, still smiling. She was cute when she got excited that way.

We arrived at King's Cross station. Once we were out of the train, we walked towards the Muggle part of the station where my father was waiting for us. He hugged us both and we all started walking to the car, talking about the school year. He seemed fine, but I knew that he had been drunk every evening since I left.

We drove back home, my father joking like he was always doing before my mum passed away. It was a really nice ride.

I could tell that Narcissa wasn't comfortable.  I knew she wanted to tell my father, her sister and brother-in-law, but we both knew that we had to wait until the second trimester. We had agreed that she'd go to a Muggle doctor to make an ultrasound to see the baby and had already taken an appointment. I'd be going with her.

"Are you two okay?" my father asked.

"Yes, why?" I asked.

"You're both silent. What's the matter?"

"It's complicated," I said.

"Why?"

"I'm a Black," Narcissa explained.

"And you're dating a half-blood and werewolf," my father said.

"Yes. I didn't want to be disowned, Mr. Lupin."

"Please call me Lyall, but I get it. I was lucky that my parents approved on my relationship with Hope."

"Yes. They wanted me to marry Lucius Malfoy, but I refused and asked them to 'just have a kid with him'. Worst decision of my life."

"Why's that?"

"They said that it would happen on my sixteenth birthday, which was on the 1st of November."

"So you're pregnant," my father whispered.

"Yes."

"And you're both going to raise that kid?"

"Yes," we replied together.

"And your studies?"

"I think that I'll drop them once the kid is born," Narcissa answered.

"Sure, and how will you two live?"

"With Remus' salary."

"What salary? He's a werewolf, Narcissa. They'll find out soon enough. No. You're going to finish your studies, both of you, and let me take care of the kid."

"Dad—" I tried.

"No, Remus. You don't have a choice."

"My sister is pregnant too, she'll take care of both when she can."

"I think you two don't realise that a kid requires lots of work. When are you due?"

"End of June or beginning of July."

"Good. That way, you'll be taking care of the kid during the two first months, while living with me, because I'm not living alone and even less knowing that my son is raising a kid. Then, you'll go back to Hogwarts and I'll take care of the kid."

"Okay, but I want you to be sober for that, dad," I said.

"Remus. Please. I raised you. I know that I can't drink alcohol or be drunk in front of a kid. Of course I'll be sober. Just tell me when you're going to make an ultrasound. I'm going to bring you there."

"Thank you, Lyall," Narcissa said.

"You're welcome, kids. Do you have any name ideas?"

"I was thinking of Draco to keep the tradition of giving star or constellation names to the Black family kids."

"Yes, sure, why not."

It was the end of the first trimester. Dad took us to the doctor and waited for us in the car.

Once inside, the woman asked Narcissa to lie down on some sort of bed and put some gel on her belly before putting a tool on it, moving it. On a screen appeared a moving picture and the doctor smiled.

"Congratulations! You're expecting twins!"

I looked at Narcissa, who looked back at me, frightened.

"Well— They're not really twins," she then said.

"What do you mean?" Narcissa asked.

"This is a superfecundation, which means that one of them is a week younger than the other, meaning that they can have different fathers. Or not."

I shared a glance with Narcissa, slowly understanding what it meant. She smiled brightly at me.

"I guess it means that you know that one of them isn't yours, right?"

"Yes. The oldest is another man's. I hate him. But the youngest is my boyfriend's."

"Great, then! You'll know if they are girls, boys or a boy and a girl at the beginning of the second trimester, at 15 weeks."

"Okay. Thank you very much."

"You're welcome."

She wiped the gel away and we walked back to the car.

"So? How's the kid doing?" my father asked as soon as we were in the car.

"Dad. Have you ever heard about superfecundation?"

"Isn't it when two kids are twins but don't have the same father?"

"Yes," we both answered.

"Wait— don't tell me that—"

"I'm pregnant with twins,"  Narcissa said.

"And one of them is mine," I said.

"That's dangerous, kids."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You're barely adults and you'll raise kids. Plus, you don't know, you two might break up at some point. Lots of adults do, but it's even more common for teenagers. I'm worried about the education you'll give to the kids, but it doesn't matter. I'll be there if you need me."

"Thanks dad."

Narcissa was expecting boys. We were thinking about some names, but none was really amazing. We both wanted a greek name and so we were looking. Then, we thought about a name meaning 'truth' because it was the thing that mattered most to us. There was 'Axiom', which was greek and meant 'statement of truth'. Then, there was 'Eryndor', which meant 'Golden one'. Then, we looked for some names linked to fire or light and came out with the names 'Aiden', which meant 'fire' and was Irish, and 'Helio', which was greek and meant 'sun'. We already knew that the oldest would be named 'Draco', but were searching for a middle name and two names for his brother.

"Why not Draco Axiom?" I asked while we were sitting in the library, one afternoon.

"It sounds great!" she said with a smile. "Now the second. I really like Eryndor,"

"I agree. So Eryndor Lupin?"

"It sounds amazing!"

I laughed. "Eryndor Aiden Lupin or Eryndor Helio Lupin?"

"Eryndor Aiden. That way, they both have a middle name that starts with 'a'."

"Great then! We've got our names! We can always use 'Helio' for a third kid," I said with a wink and she rolled her eyes, laughing.

"I'm not having any other kids!" she said.

"Hey! I thought we agreed on more!" I said, laughing.

"No! I'm tired!" she said, laughing too.

"Tired? Cissa, you haven't even reached the third trimester yet!"

"Shut up! I want them to get out of there and enjoy watching them play and grow up together."

"I agree."

We remained silent for some time before she said "Remus?"

"Hmm?"

"I'd like Draco to have your last name, to make him — make them believe that they really are twin brothers. Plus, I wouldn't stand seeing his last name next to my son's first name."

"Of course my love."

"Really? You don't mind him calling you dad?"

"Of course not, Narcissa! Why would I?"

"Because he isn't your son?"

"He isn't biologically, perhaps, but in my heart, I have two sons."

She hugged me and I hugged her back, smiling.

"I won't be able to finish the school year," she then said.

"I know. I'll give you the work we did once you gave birth and rested at your sister's place."

"Thanks, Remus. You really are the best boyfriend in the world!"

I smiled. "And you're the best girlfriend in the world," I answered.
