Chapter 18

02:41, 28 July 2017

Sam's mother greeted Colby warmly ushering the shivering boy in. He ran his fingers through his messy fringe as he smiled a thank you, "Sam is upstairs honey, I'll call you down when it's time for dinner." Ms. Golbach chirped as she pushed the boy towards the stairs. Colby went up and walked to the last door on the left, the door wide open revealing a blonde hair boy with a book in his hands. Colby stared from the doorway as he admired the way his blue eyes squinted up in concentration, "Love?" Sam jumped at the sound of Colby's voice but ran towards him, "Colby! What took you so long?" Sam questioned as Colby instantly intertwined their fingers, Sam taking comfort in the familiar act.

"I just couldn't find my phone but it's fine now." Colby answered as he quickly patted his back pocket in assurance. Sam only pulled Colby closer putting his head in the crook of his shoulder, "You know what it doesn't matter as long as you are here now." Sam smiled his breath sending a shiver down Colby's spine. Colby pulled the blonde to his bed untangling their hands and pulling him onto his lap. Sam snuggled in closer as Colby let out a small content sigh, "Sam? Does it feel like we are going to fast in this relationship?" Sam shook his head no not letting out his concerned thoughts. Why the hell would Colby be asking this? Was he going to already break up with him? Sam feared the worst, "Colby. We may be going too fast but this is the happiest I have ever been. I feel like I have known you my whole life. I adore you. I lo- I don't think I ever want this to end. I think our pace is perfect for us." Sam amended hiding his blushing face in Colby's shoulder as the brunette pulled his boyfriend into a tight hug, "I adore you too love." Colby murmured as he pulled away from Sam. They looked each other in the eyes which sent a flurry of fire through Sam. Colby put his hand slowly underneath his chin pulling his face towards him his eyes fluttering down to Sam's lips. They were inches away both the boy's hearts beating on command, love seemed to radiate off the two boys,

"Dinner!" Ms. Golbach called causing the two boys to pull apart quickly, both letting out an awkward laugh as they both got up, "Guess we need to go downstairs." Colby laughed as he pulled Sam out of his room. Sam followed the messy haired boy down the steps. "So Ms. Golbach what is for dinner?" Colby asked the two boys walked into the dining room. Unlike at the Brock household Sam's mother didn't burn the food she made for the boys. Sam dragged Colby to the small kitchen table sitting down beside him. Sam's mother walked over with a hot pan was chicken dumplings, made from scratch,"Whoa this meal looks absolutely amazing Ms. Golbach!" Colby gushed as Sam nodded along in agreement, their hands intertwined underneath the table.

"Well boys help yourself!" Ms. Golbach chirped as she sat down across from the two boys. Silence filled the room as the people around the table filled their plates with food, the only sound was a few scrapes of silverware, "So Colby tell me a little about yourself, all I know is that Sammy here talks a lot about you." Colby chuckled as Sam's face lit up bright red at the sound of his mothers question, "Mom..." He complained as Colby just grabbed onto his hand tighter, "Well I moved here Colorado and this would be like my 12th school. My father work is always moving us around but my mom promised I could finish out high school here." Ms. Golbach nodded along as Sam ate silently, pleased that his boyfriend and his mom were getting along nicely, "So, what are your plans after high school?"

"Well Ms. Golbach, I really love movies and making people laugh, So I was thinking about going to school to be movie director, make something that could change the world." Sam listened to his boyfriends response realizing he wanted to do something familiar, "That is very cool honey. I'm sure you will make great things. Sammy over there likes working with cameras too." Sam nodded as he made eye contact with his mom, he could read her like an open book. Her head was going a mile a minute and the smile that rested on her lips told him clearly that she was excited that her little boy found someone like him. The trio ate and talked among themselves, light chatter filling the kitchen making it feel lively. Laughter and the occasional silent moments arose but all in all it was like a small family were sitting together and Sam Golbach couldn't be happier. As he listened to his boyfriend speak excitedly of his future Sam found him self falling even more for the messy haired boy that say besides him,

"So Colby I would love to meet your mother some time, so why don't we set up a time for all of us to get together!" Ms. Golbach gushed as Colby nodded enthusiastically. Sam saw his chance to ask his mom something he wanted to ask from the very beginning, "Mom, I know it's a school night but do you think maybe Colby could spend the night, as long as his mom says it's alright?" Colby choked back surprise hoping that Ms. Golbach would agree, "I'm sure my mother wouldn't mind." Colby pitched watching as Ms. Golbach's face slowly melted into a look that Colby could only read as a surrender, "Fine. But no staying up late." She demanded as Sam just squeezed Colby's hand tighter.

As the boys once again filled the home with chatter a cold shadow stood outside hidden behind some bushes. He could clearly see the lovers watching and waiting for when he should make his next move. At home Macy waited for Matt's command to send a text when Colby's phone could be seen by Sam, her guilt weighing her down like a dumb bell.

The sea and the moon were falling and nothing was there to catch their falls.
