Chapter 5

03:11, 18 July 2017

Dinner with Colby's mother was filled with small talk and awkward silences and Sam hated every minute of it. Mrs. Brock was sweet and proudly proclaimed she loved Colby's new friend but Sam just felt uncomfortable. The spaghetti she made sat in front of Sam cold and untouched as he tried to focus on his jittery hands beneath the table. The problem with always being a shadow is that Sam never learned how to hold a proper conversation with another human being, "Alright mom, thank you for the lovely dinner but I think Sam and I are going to go back up stairs okay?" Colby announced as he jumped up and grabbed Sam's wrist pulling him along, "Uh yeah thank you Mrs. Brock for the meal." Sam called as Colby quickly yanked him up the steps, "No problem Sweetie let me know if you need anything!" Was the last thing Sam heard as Colby slammed his door shut, as breathed heavily, "I'm so sorry about my mom." He panted as Sam only shrugged. "So Sam what would you like to do now?" Colby asked as Sam tried to gather his thoughts. "Could we watch a movie?" The suggestion was harmless and doable, "Sure what would you like to watch?" Sam only shrugged, "Pick out what ever you want." Colby nodded going to his many movies stacked under the small t.v in his room, horror. Sam sat on Colby's bed as he brought out the movie The Conjuring excitement clear in his eyes. "Is this one okay?" Sam hated horror movies but didn't want to look like a wimp in front of his new friend. He already bore his soul out to him so there was no way in hell he was going to say no to a horror movie too. "Sure." Sam tried act nonchalant with his response but his voice wavered a bit but thankfully Colby ignored it as he quickly started the movie, as bounced on his toys in excitement, he always had loved horror movies. As the opening seen started Colby sat next to Sam on the messy bed. Sam was already shaking has the music played creepily in the background of the movie but refused to let Colby know of his irrational fear, "Come on Golbach it's fake, nothing is going to hurt you." Sam chanted into his head as Colby watched the movie in fascination. It was all going well until the jump scare. Sam knew it was coming, any body watching it could tell it was coming but Sam still jumped and let out a small shriek latching on to the nearest thing to him, Colby's arm. In return Colby jumped slightly at the touch only to find blonde hair and blue eyes latched on to him, he let out a chuckle,

"Sam? You okay?" Sam quickly untangled himself from the messy haired boy and let out an uneasy laugh, "O-of course Colby. Everything is fine." The false facade was easily seen through but Colby decided to let it go turning back to the movie. Sam lost the plot and paid no attention to what was happening leaving him to look around the now darkened room. Dark shadows moved towards him and Sam swore he he heard some one whisper in his ear and he let out another shriek when a scream came from the t.v set reattaching himself to Colby's arm, "You know Sam, if you're that afraid of the movie we could watch something else. " Once again Sam put on his brave faced mask, "N-no don't be silly Colby, this movie is great."

So that was how the night went, Colby picked out horror movies to watch, Sam clung to his arm (adorable according to Colby but he would never admit that), Colby asked if they should turn it off, and Sam denying he was scared of anything. As the last movie came to a close Colby turned off the t.v and turned to the boy who had his eyes shut and clung to his arm, " Well I think that was the last one besides I think I scared you enough for one night." Colby giggled, "I- I don't know what you are talking about Colby, I-I'm not scared at all." Colby only rolled his eyes at the blonde. "Anyways I think we should get some shut eye, you can change in the bathroom if you want." Colby suggested. Sam thought about going out into the darkened hall and thought better of it, "I-I'm not scared I just I think I'll sleep in what I have on." Sam declared causing Colby to once again laugh again, "Okay if you say so Sam. At least close your eyes so I can change into my pajamas." Sam complied letting his brain wander which it seemed to lead back to dizzying eyes and rings. "You can open now, and uh I hope you don't mind if we uh, share a bed tonight?" Colby quickly choked out the words as Sam just shrugged, "I don't mind as long as you stay on your side." Colby only nodded as the two got under the covers. Both boys laid straight as boards as close to their edges as possible afraid to even accidentally touch each other. "Good night Sam."

"Good night Colby." Sam murmured back as he tried to ignore the fact that he was sleeping next to the new kid Colby Brock. Eventual Colby's even breathing lulled Sam into a deep sleep thankfully filled with no nightmares but instead a certain blue eyed brunette.

Colby woke up unable to move and slightly panicked when he noticed a slight weight was on his chest. That was until he looked down to see a certain blonde hair boy laying on him sleeping soundly. A light blush erupted over Colby's cheeks as he quickly assessed the awkward sleeping arrangements. He was sure Sam didn't mean to and that he must of accidentally moved on top of him but Colby wasn't so sure how he was going to get up with out waking him. So Colby's solution was just to lay there. He let his eyes take in Sam's sleeping face. His face was relaxed and his hair was messily swept in every which way. His lips looked soft and were stretched in a soft lazy smile. Colby could've laid there all day waiting to see Sam open his eyes to reveal those baby blues he had learned to love. Love was maybe to strong of a word so Colby settled for the word adore.

It was painfully obvious to the young boy that he indeed adored the boy with blonde hair and bright blue eyes.
