Seventh Year

AN: wow, I can't believe this fanfic is finished. I really loved writing it, and I hope you guys enjoyed reading it.It was hard to get all the Jily moments across in only two scenes, so I'm scared that you might think some of these scenes are cheesy, but I tried to keep it realistic, and I hope it shows. If you guys are interested, I'll write some one-shots based on this fanfic, about their time in Hogwarts, and after.Let me know in the comments if you'd like that!

Beginning of Seventh Year

James was looking around nervously. Where was Lily? It was already 10:50, only ten minutes until the rain leaves, and Lily liked to be there at least 15 minutes before. What if she wasn't coming back? It was a bad time to be a muggleborn wizard, but Lily COULDN'T not come back! He couldn't survive school without her. Besides, he had to see the look of disbelief on her face when she found out he was Head Boy. He was sure she was Head Girl, and he couldn't wait. This was supposed to be THEIR year. This was the year they would finally get together. He could feel it. She was supposed to fall passionately in love with him, she couldn't not come, she just cou-.James's thoughts were interrupted when he felt someone jump onto his back. He craned his neck, saw it was Lily, and grinned like a child on his birthday. "Lily!" He yelled letting her down off his back, and pulling her a into a hug."I thought you might not come back!" He said."What? You thought I'd miss our last year at Hogwarts? Please, I've been looking forward to this all summer. This is gonna be the best year ever!" She said, pulling him back for another hug.He laughed and ruffled her hair."Would you two lovebirds hurry up? Train's leaving in 7 minutes." Sirius called out to them.James rolled his eyes, and then did a double take, noticing that Lily had turned bright red. Since when did Lily blush over things like this? People always teased her about liking him. She'd never been embarrassed before. What had changed? The only thing he could think of was... But no, Lily couldn't like him. Could she? Did she?He glanced over at Lily again, but she was avoiding making eye contact. There was an awkward silence until James grabbed Lily's hand, and pulled her towards the train. "We're gonna miss the train if we don't hurry."Lily started to run after him, but ended up tripping and dragging them both down. As they toppled over, James put his hands out to break their fall, but ended up landing on top of Lily, only managing to not crush her, because he was in push up position, holding himself up.Their eyes met, their faces only an inch apart. Lily was as red as a tomato, squirming, but couldn't get out from under him.James was watching her, grinning at her discomfort."So... How was your summer?" He asked grinning.Lily looked like she would rather be anywhere else, and muttered "fine"James looked as if his dreams had come true, but on the inside, he was nervous. This was his chance to find out if Lily liked him, but time was running out, and he couldn't bring himself to do it. Sure, he could ask her out when he knew she'd say no. At least he was used to it. It didn't hurt so much, but letting himself hope was dangerous. If he thought she would say yes, and she didn't... Well, he knew what it would feel like. It would feel like the first time she rejected him, back in third year. And that had hurt. Bad.Lily on the other hand, wasn't hiding her nervousness. Having James so close to her made her feel too many emotions, and she didn't like it. She didn't like not feeling in control. Ever since the end of last year, she had been feeling DIFFERENT around James. Not bad, but something was off. If she didn't know better she'd say she was falling for him, but that was impossible. After all, he was James Potter and she was Lily Evans. She couldn't like him. It was physically impossible. How could she like him? So he had a great smile, and he was funny, and handsome, and a great quidditch player and- oh no. She had fallen for Potter. Literally, she realized, looking up at Potter's face, so close to her own."So Potter? You plan on getting up any time soon?" Lily asked, faking nonchalance."Not anytime soon, no" he responded.Remus, Sirius and Peter were raising their eyebrows in an over exaggerated, suggestive way at James.Lily finally managed to get out from under James, and stood up, wiping the dirt off her, and grabbing her trolley.James's eyes widened. He couldn't lose his chance. He was going to find out whether or not she liked him in the, he checked his watch, four minutes they had left before the train left."Wait Lily, I need to talk to you!"Lily froze. She knew this routine. He asked her to wait, she did, he asked her out, she rejected him. That couldn't happen now. She couldn't say yes, but she couldn't say no.But James didn't seem to understand that, since he just continued. He walked toward her, until they were only a couple of inches apart. Lily caught her breath. Why was he so close again? He was close enough that she could count the freckles that were scattered across his nose."Look Lily, I- I need to- do you?-"Lily raised an eyebrow in confusion. "How about you try again, this time actually using words?" She suggested smirking.James smirked back. 'No, I think I'll try again, using no words this time" he said, before pulling her by the waist for a kiss.Everyone on the platform froze in shock, forgetting that the train was leaving in three minutes. The train could wait. They had waited for this for years.Lily was so shocked, she didn't kiss him back. Then, she came to her senses, and realized that the guy she liked was kissing her, and this was her moment. She wrapped her arm around his neck, and pulled him even closer, kissing him back with so much passion, James was shocked. She was worth the wait, James thought, smiling into the kiss. The feeling in his stomach right now made it worth the four years she had rejected him. The taste of her lips on his made it worth all the detentions he had got, trying to get her attention. Having her like him back made everything worth it.They finally pulled apart, as everyone around them wolf- whistled."Its about time!" Sirius yelled, grinning at his best friend.James grinned, and put his arm around Lilts waist. "Ya. It is."Lily smiled up at him, and nodded, letting him kiss her forehead. Now that she had accepted that she liked him, she couldn't think of why she hadn't before. The way he had kissed her. You couldn't just kiss anyone like that. That was the kiss of two people who were meant for each other, and she knew it.She felt crazy, completely changing her opinion of him so fast, but it was something she couldn't explain in words. It was a 'had to be there' kind of moment. You couldn't understand if you hadn't seen the look on his face right before he kissed her, or felt his lips on hers, or his smile when she kissed him back, or seen the delight on his face as they pulled apart. It was undescribable. She knew she couldn't love him yet, they weren't even officially dating, but she knew she cared about him in that way, and loved him as a friend, and knew that even if something went wrong between them, he would still matter to her. They had a connection now. She could feel it.Remus snapped his fingers between their faces. "Hate to interrupt your love-fest here, but the train is leaving in less than a minute."That brought them both back to their senses. They immediately started running towards the train, this time not tripping. As they approached it, James stepped on, and offered a hand to Lily. "M'lady" he said with a bow.Lily giggled and curtsied, letting him help her on to the train.James pulled her on, bit with a little too much force, causing her to be pulled right up to him. He started to blush, but Lily shrugged, and leaned forward to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Come on Potter, let's go find a compartment." She said, walking off, leaving behind a boy grinning like an idiot, holding a hand up to the cheek that Lily Evans had just kissed.

End of Seventh Year

Lily walked off the train, grinning as she held her boyfriend's hand. She and James had been dating since the first of September, back on this platform, and it had been going great. She couldn't believe their time in Hogwarts was up, though. She looked around wistfully, remembering everything that had happened here on this platform."Sad that it's all over?" James asked, as if reading her mind.Lily nodded. "Hogwarts is where we all grew up. The minute we leave this platform, we're leaving the last part of it. This is where it all started. I'm just not ready for it to end." Then she laughed slightly. "That was the most corny thing I could've ever said."James laughed. "Ya, but it's true. I mean, can you imagine life without Hogwarts? We'd all be so different."Sirius, who was walking next to them nodded in agreement. "If I hadn't met you guys, I probably wouldn't have had the guts to stand up to my parents, and I'd be stuck practicing the dark arts."Remus patted Sirius's back sympathetically."If I hadn't come, I wouldn't have been able to be happy, because of my" he lowered his voice slightly. "Furry little problem." "If i hadnt come here, i would've never had any of the confidence I have now, because of you guys." Peter said."If I hadn't come, everything would've been different. I would still be friends with Petunia, but I would be her shy little sister, not the person I really am. I would've acted the way she wanted me to, instead of doing what I want." Lily said.James chimed in. "If I hadn't come here, I wouldn't have met you." He said, kissing the top of Lily's head.Lily smiled up at him, but then furrowed her brow, when she saw a look of panic on his face."What's wrong, Potter?" She said."Um, I just needed to say- I wanted to tell you- that I need to go talk to Sirius!" He said, dragging Sirius off to the corner of the platform, and then kicking the wall in frustration."Why didn't I do it? That was the perfect opportunity, and I blew it!" "Calm down Prongs." Sirius said. "There's no reason to be nervous."James scoffed. "No reason to be nervous? What if she says no?" It was Sirius's turn to scoff. "What if she says no? Why would she say no? She loves you, and that seems like a pretty good reason to say yes to me."James grinned slightly. Sirius was always able to make him feel more confident. "Okay, I'm gonna go do this, Padfoot." James said, walking towards Lily before he got too chicken. He walked up to a bench and yelled "Can I please have everyone's attention?"Everyone on the platform turned to look, the marauders, Potters, and Evans parents smiling, since James had let them know what he planned to do."So I have some pretty good memories on this platform. This is where I met Lily Evans, the person I love the most in the world."Everyone listening smiled at that adorable line, except Sirius who faked a gasp and whispered loudly "I thought I was the person he loved the most in the world!"James rolled his eyes and continued. "When I first met her, I hated her. I used to torture her. Then slowly, she grew on me. Like a kind of fungus."Lily tried to punch him, but couldn't do any damage, since he was still standing on top of the bench."Fine. She grew on me like ivy. In the beginning, you're worried it might be poisonous, but then you see that it's not, and you see its real beauty."At that point, every girl listening swooned, even Lily, who was usually immune to James's cheesiness."So, while we're here, the place I met Lily, the place I first kissed Lily, the place I started dating Lily, I want to ask her a question."Lily's eyes widened in shock, while behind her, Marlene and Alice squealed.James got down from the bench."Lily" he said in a serious voice "I've been in love with you since I was fourteen. Even though you rejected me every day, I kept asking you out. I know I'm not the best boyfriend; I'm selfish, egotistical, arrogant, and so many other things, but you make me a better person. I've loved you for four years, and I know that I'll never stop."James got down on one knee. "This isn't just me being a gentleman and doing this the traditional way, on my knees. This is me getting on my knees and begging you. I love you so much, that I can't imagine life without you, and I don't want to. Don't make me have to. Promise me you'll spend the rest of your life with me."He took a deep breath in, pulled out an extravagant looking ring, and continued."Lily Anne Evans, would you do me the honor of being my wife? Will you make me the happiest man in the world, and marry me?"Lily smiled, holding back tears of joy, and slowly nodded. The whole crowd surrounding them burst out into applause, as James slipped the ring onto Lily's finger.Lily then grabbed his hand, pulled him to his feet, and kissed him.Lily had her arms wrapped around James's neck, and he had one around her waist, and the other one fist pumping the air in victory. They pulled apart, both of them with smiles from ear to ear.Lily got on her tiptoes and whispered into James's ear. "You're wrong by the way. You were the best boyfriend a girl could have, and now you're the perfect fiance. I love you so much"James's grin widened. A compliment from Lily was a rare thing. Not because she didn't like him, but she rarely complimented anyone. She wasn't good at putting her emotions into words, so when she did, he knew she meant it. When she said she loved him, there was no doubt in his mind she loved him more than anything in the world, and if she said he was the perfect fiance, then he was. He trusted her completely. She never lied. She was perfect in his mind."I love you more." He whispered back.Lily's heart skipped a beat. James did that to her. He was a prankster, always joking, so when he said something serious to her, she knew he meant it completely. He said so many things in a joking way, that it was special every time he said something he really felt. It wasn't that he lied, not at all. It was just that he had been calling her the love of his life, so hearing the words wasn't the special part. It was the look in his eyes when he said it. James pulled Lily into a hug, until she was pulled away by Mrs Evans, Marlene and Alice. "You're engaged!" Marlene screamed, tackling Lily in a bear hug."Thank you, Captain Obvious." Lily responded, laughing.Mr. Evans patted James on the back, and said in a 'no nonsense voice. "Be good to her."James nodded solemnly. "I would never hurt her, Sir."Mr. Evans smiled, and pulled James closer. "You didn't hear this from me, but I think you're going to be a much better son-in-law than that Vernon fellow.""Thank you." James said, glad thay his future father-in-law approved of him. He and Lily hadnt been dating for a long time, so he didn't know her parents well. Their only real conversation was via letters, when he asked for their permission to propose to Lily.He looked over at his new fiancé, and grinned. Lily was talking to his parents, and seeing them all together made him feel complete. The people he loved, all together. His parents, Lily, the Marauders, who were right next to them... They were what made him love his life. Not his broomstick, or looks, or popularity. None of that mattered compared to them.Lily saw the thoughtful look on James's face, and walked over to him."Is everything okay?" she asked, worried.James smiled and took her hand in his. "As long as I have you, everything is perfect."
