The study group had gathered in our usual room. It had become a familiar routine, one I was almost grateful for.

We were sitting at a large table, each of us surrounded by our textbooks and notes, the air filled with the soft rustling of pages turning. The only sounds were the quiet hum of conversation and the occasional tapping of pens. It was a stark contrast to the chaos that seemed to be creeping into our lives.

Se-Hyun, always the optimist, grinned. "We've got this. We just need to get our heads in the game. The university entrance exam's just one more challenge we'll crush together."

I smiled weakly. "I hope so."

There was a brief pause before Lee Joon leaned forward, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Hey, Ji-Woo, remember the answer you gave for the history question last time? You're sure about that?"

Ji-Woo narrowed her eyes at him, her lips curving into a playful smirk. "Don't start, Lee Joon. I know you're just trying to get me to doubt myself again."

"I just think you might've missed something," he teased, his voice dropping into a mock-serious tone.

Before Ji-Woo could respond, I felt it—a change in the atmosphere. It was subtle at first, but there was a shift in the air, an invisible weight that pressed on us all. I glanced over my shoulder, and sure enough, standing near the door was Min-Hwan.

His presence was unmistakable. Even though he wasn't the loudest person in the room, his energy had a way of drawing attention. The way he stood there, casually leaning against the doorframe, his arms crossed, a cocky smile on his lips—it immediately set me on edge.

"What does he want?" Ga-Min muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing.

I didn't answer. Instead, I watched as Min-Hwan pushed off the doorframe and walked over toward us with that same smug smile.

"Hey, guys," Min-Hwan greeted us, his voice dripping with faux cheerfulness. "I was just passing by and thought I'd see what you all were up to. Looks like another study session, huh? How cute."

I clenched my jaw, but before I could say anything, Min-Hwan's eyes landed on me. The look in his gaze sent a chill down my spine, as if he could see right through me, peeling back layers I wasn't ready to expose.

"Ah, Hera," he said, his tone shifting slightly. "I was wondering if you'd be here. You know, I've been hearing a lot of interesting things about you lately."

I froze, not sure how to respond. The last time I'd seen him, he had been with Han-Wool and his gang, and the tension between us had been thick with unspoken threats. Now, with Han-Wool temporarily out of the picture, Min-Hwan seemed to have taken it upon himself to stir the pot.

"You've been hearing things, huh?" I finally managed to say, my voice steady but with an underlying edge. "What kind of things?"

Min-Hwan's smile widened, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Oh, nothing too serious," he said, his words coated in mock innocence. "Just rumors. People are talking, you know? About you, about everything that's been going on."

My pulse quickened, but I refused to let him see my discomfort. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh, I'm sure you do," he said, taking a few steps closer, his gaze never leaving mine. "It's funny how things unfold, isn't it? The more you get involved with certain people, the more... complicated everything gets."

Ga-Min stood up from his chair, his fists clenched at his sides. "What are you trying to say, Min-Hwan?"

Min-Hwan just shrugged, the smug look still plastered on his face. "Just making an observation."

I opened my mouth to retort, but before I could, Ji-Woo intervened, stepping forward with a protective stance.

"That's enough, Min-Hwan," she said, her voice firm. "We don't need to hear whatever nonsense you're spouting today."

Min-Hwan held up his hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. I'll stop. But you know, sometimes it's just funny to see how quickly things can spiral out of control. Who knows? Maybe you'll all find yourselves in a little bit more trouble than you bargained for." His eyes flicked to Ga-Min, then back to me, the words hanging in the air like an unspoken threat.

As he disappeared around the corner, I let out a shaky breath, trying to steady my racing heart.

"What was that about?" Lee Joon asked, breaking the silence.

I didn't have an answer. I only knew that something was wrong, and Min-Hwan wasn't the only one who knew it.

Later that night, as I walked home with Ga-Min, I couldn't shake the feeling that something darker was unfolding. Min-Hwan's words had stayed with me, and despite the distance between us, I knew I wasn't alone in this. Somewhere, in the shadows, Ryeowook's presence lingered—just out of sight but ever-present, quietly manipulating everything from the sidelines.

And as I walked through the familiar streets, I couldn't help but wonder: Was this just the beginning of something much worse?
