22:49, 13 December 2020There was a buzz at Sana's house as all the girls who would go to the dance as a group had met at Sana's place.
Seulgi, Irene, Chungha, Jieqiong and of course Sana herself were putting on the finishing touches to their outfits.
They and the boys had rented a limo which would be arriving with them in just twenty minutes. It was getting to 8 PM already.
Sana was dressed elegantly in this:
And had her hair done like this:
She was putting on her silver diamond encrusted accessories while the other girls fussed around in her room.
"Where did I put my earrings?" Seulgi asked breathlessly after slipping her heels on.
"On the desk," Jieqiong replied without looking since she was busy doing her eyelashes.
Mrs. Minatozaki who had swapped shifts so she could see her daughter's first dance night, watched the girls fondly from the door of Sana's room.
She chuckled before saying, "Alright girls, who needs some help?" Mrs. Minatozaki was met with a chorus of "me's" before going over to Chungha to help her finish curling her hair.
If not for Sana's mother's help, the girls would have all still been getting ready when the limo pulled up right on time.
The boys hopped out and Jun rang the doorbell.
Back in Sana's room, her mother was taking quick photos and the girls were trying to calm themselves down as tension, nerves and excitement were running high.
Mrs. Minatozaki followed the girls outside, determined not to miss the guys' reactions as well as a group photo with the limousine.
There was a loud commotion at the front door when Chungha opened it and the classmates reunited. The other boys were whistling or laughing or talking, but Jun stared silently in awe at how stunning Sana was.
He was dressed smartly in his tux:
Simply by chance, the colours of Sana and Jun's outfits complimented each other beautifully.
"Oh, my gosh, Jun!" Sana exclaimed excitedly, rushing over to him. "Aww~ you look so handsome and grown up!" Sana said with a smile, squishing his cheeks.
Jun unfroze to accept her incoming hug, but still stared at her, awestruck.
"What?" Sana asked, her voice smaller since Jun hadn't said anything the whole time.
"It's just...how can you look so ravishing?" he breathed, a smile brightening his features. Sana's face reddened and she pushed him playfully, mumbling an embarrassed thanks.
"Okay, photo time!" Mrs. Minatozaki called, waving her camera in the air with excitement. "Everyone in front of the limo!"
The group of sophomores walked jauntily down the front steps and down the short driveway to the limousine and posed sensibly for the first picture. They stood in their pairs; Jun with Sana; Hoshi with Chungha; Jieqiong and Minghao; Irene with Suho and; Jaebum with Seulgi.
They posed crazily for the next picture and Sana's mother sent them off soon after.
The ten of them piled noisily into the lavish car and Sana waved a quick goodbye to her mother since the booming music from within the car would have drowned out any words she said.
Inside, everyone was super hyped and were bouncing around to the loud music as well as shouting across to each other in conversation. It was a thirty-minute journey to the school, and they discussed how they would make a grand entrance most of the way.
The limo entered through the school gates and parked in front of the indoor gym where the dance was being held. There was a red carpet stretching from the parking spot into the gymnasium and many students milled around, some with their phones to film people's entrances and the student photographers with their cameras to take pictures for the yearbook.
The music had been turned off in the limousine and so the subwoofer sounds from within the enclosed gym metres away was what greeted their ears when they parked.
The ten of them in unison thanked the chauffeur who had lowered the dividing screen to announce their arrival and then they quickly fixed their hair or straightened their dresses and tuxes before stepping out gracefully onto the red carpet where several eyes were upon them immediately.
Their juniors and some seniors made a commotion as they each stepped out, as rehearsed, in their positions before walking arm in arm with their partners in unison to the gym.
Everyone could acknowledge that their arrival had been the most impressive.
Once inside, the music was louder, but not too loud that one would have to shout to be heard. The lights were a cool blue colour and numerous students were dancing in the center of the room, the dancefloor, while others sat on the bleachers on the sides holding or eating food from the large banquet table of refreshments at the very back of the gym.
The DJ was moving to the beat before his turntables on the stage at the front of the room. There was a tall speaker in each corner of the room.
The group of ten exchanged electrified looks of thrill and immediately dashed into the throng of students on the dancefloor.
And it was only 8:45 PM.
.
.
It was way past 10 PM when the DJ decided to slow it down a bit.
Sana's group had danced for some time before they got hungry and raided the refreshments table before grabbing spaces on the bleachers and laughing at their teacher's crazy retro dance moves. Then they struck up conversation between themselves before a famous and much-loved song was played and literally every student took to the floor to dance it out while the tired teachers took a break and watched them.
More hours of dancing, talking, eating and repeating continued, until the DJ played the first slow-dance music of the night.
The lights were turned down a little lower, but it remained bright enough to see.
"Care for a slow dance?" Jun asked with a grin. Sana smiled back and they found an emptier spot on the dance floor, close to the back of the gymnasium.
Sana rested her arms on Jun's shoulders, her hands interlocking behind his neck and Jun held her softly by the waist, gazing down into her eyes as she focused up on his.
"You don't seem the type to slow-dance," Sana said after a while. "Especially after those crazy moved you busted earlier."
Jun chuckled. "Learned from the movies," he whispered into her ear, making her skin tingle and she laughed.
They were silent again for a while before Sana sighed contentedly, swaying to the music in Jun's arms. "This is nice~" she said, resting her head on his shoulder and closing her eyes momentarily. Despite her heels, Jun still stood taller than her.
"I can't believe we'll be senior next year, though," Jun said suddenly, as if it had just dawned on him. Sana nodded slowly into his chest, opening her eyes again.
"Final exams are coming up." she added, raising her head and looking back up at him. She registered how ethereal he looked in the low light and smiled unconsciously.
"I'll study extra hard if you just help me a little." Jun assured her and she smiled with a nod.
Unexpectedly, he leaned in and kissed her, and Sana felt his grip around her tighten. When they parted, Sana glowed red with embarrassment. "What was that for?" she whispered with hot cheeks.
Jun sighed. "It's all your fault...why do you have to be so irresistible?" he joked with a smile, then leaned in again as she rolled her eyes.
But Jun felt her smile on his lips as he kissedher again.
