Something clicked in place in Sana's mind. "Of course!" she exclaimed. "The knife from Mr. Seo's safe! It was like, what seven-inches and I'm sure it would be able to make a—"

"No! No, Sana I gasped for a different reason!" Jun blurted, then stopped suddenly.

They looked at each other.

Then they both heard it at the same time. Footsteps. As heavy as the last time. But there were two pairs of footfalls and muffled speech could be heard through the door.

They'd have to hide – and fast.

Jun hastily returned the spray can to the trash and was dragged by Sana into a squatting position behind the floor-length grey curtains beside a wide cupboard. If they stood up, they could be seen from outside, through the window.

Thankfully, the lights were off, so their silhouettes could not be seen through the semi-thick fabric.

The beeping sound of the guards' fingerprint scan sounded a second after Jun slipped under the curtain to squash himself behind Sana.

They were squished uncomfortably close to each other, so close they could hear each other breathing. Jun shifted ever so slightly behind Sana, then softly covered her mouth and nose with his hand before doing the same to himself.

"Wow...what a mess," one of the guards said gruffly. The other remained silent and walked over to the desk.

"Knife marks, these are," the second confirmed, his voice heavy with a Daegu dialect.

Jun nodded; a miniscule motion Sana felt against her shoulder. She could feel his accelerated heartbeat against her back, and she was sure he could feel hers racing just as fast.

"What did he say we should get again?" the first guard asked, a tired yawn escaping his lips.

Sana couldn't see, but she guessed the Daegu guard had rolled his eyes in the short silence that followed.

"Where's the key?" he called roughly to the first.

"In there." He pointed, but Sana didn't dare to look where. She felt Jun's grip around her shoulders and over her mouth tighten as the first guard strode over to the wide cupboard that they were hidden next to.

The guard rummaged around for something in the cupboard, retrieved the key and unlocked a drawer. They seemed to shuffle through papers for a few minutes, and then when they found whatever they were looking for, locked the drawer and began to file out.

"Put the key back." Daegu guard reminded the other.

The footsteps approached their hiding spot again. He dropped the key...but they didn't hear receding footfalls. He was still standing there.

Sana and Jun couldn't see, but he was staring right at their hiding place.

"What the-?" he began, and slowly approached them.

Sana's eyes widened in fear and Jun gulped slowly. They both held their breath.

"Come on! My coffee will get cold!" Daegu guard yelled down the corridor. The first guard stopped, took one last look at the slightly bumpy looking curtain, then turned on his heel and jogged after the other.

Sana and Jun both let out their breaths at the same time. They did not immediately stand up, but remained in the hiding place, breathing heavily, reminiscing the last moments before they were nearly caught.

Jun slipped his arms around Sana's middle, drawing her even closer to him so that her back rested against his chest and torso, then buried his face in her shoulder.

"That was so close..." Sana muttered in a shaky whisper; her hands wrapped so tightly around Jun's wrist that her knuckles had whitened. Jun nodded into her shoulder.

"Come on, let's take our last pictures and leave." Jun breathed into her ear. They stood cautiously, making sure they kept below the window behind them.

Junboosted her over the wall ten minutes later. On the other side, he grabbed herhand and they ran.
