Addie

22:05, 27 April 2023

She hated lying to him, but she knew she had to do this herself. Lee invited the twins over for a 'guys night' and she found it to be the perfect time to do this. So, she climbed into her bed and placed her back against the headboard. She had told the twins that she and Hermione were having a girls' night in their absence, which was slightly true. Hermione was downstairs watching the telly, wanting to give her privacy, she would come check up on her in about half an hour. So, when she made herself comfortable, she closed her eyes and said "Veni ad me." As she concentrated at one person in particular, one person she had been dying to see since she found out about her ability. She heard the giggle first and opened her eyes to see Addie sitting in front of her on the bed. She too, sat cross-legged on the bed, only a few centimetres away from her. The only difference was that she still looked twelve years old, her bright round eyes and her strawberry blond hair in a long braid on her back. She looked the same as she did the day she died. The same hair, the same clothes. Her breath hitched and her eyes started to fill with tears.

"Addie." Her voice barely a whisper.

"Leah." She smiled. "Oh, I've missed you."

"I- I miss you too. It, it was all my fault." The tears came down as she started crying harshly and uncontrollably. The smile of young Addie dropped immediately, and she reached her hand over, both shocked when her hand didn't go through. "Leah." Addie breathed her name in surprise.

"How?" Leah whispered as she looked up.

"I don't know." A little crease formed between her brows. "Maybe because we're twins, the connection is stronger -" Addie couldn't finish her sentence as Leah leaped forward and wrapped her arms around her young twin.

"I love you so much."

"I love you too." She pulled a bit back to look at Leah. "It wasn't your fault."

"It was! If I didn't-"

"No." Addie pulled her back into a hug, instantly shutting her up. "No, it was a freak accident." When Leah wanted to retort, she redirected the conversation. "Tell me about that boy of yours." She pulled back and took her place next to her, still holding each other hands, not ready to let go yet. So, Leah wiped her tears away and pushed her guilt aside as she talked about Fred, her new life, George, everything that had happened over the last few months. Hermione came to check up on her, but when she saw her talking to someone invisible to her, she respectfully backed out of the room.

When it started to get dark, Addie made a move to stand up, Leah's hand tightened on hers. "I got to go, Leah. You're getting weak."

"No, Addie! I'm not ready, I'm not ready to let you go. Please stay for a little longer." She begged even though she felt her magic drain away fast. Addie looked torn but going against their Nan's advice she sat back down. She too wasn't ready to let her go of just yet.

It's been over three hours since Leah went upstairs, and Hermione grew nervous as she paced in the living room. What Leah told her, the other times she talked to someone it didn't last longer than half an hour. She knew this could be different, could take longer seeing it was her twin sister, but after passing the fireplace for the twentieth time she made a decision and headed back upstairs. She pushed the door open and first she thought Leah had just fallen asleep, but she was lying in bed with her eyes wide open as she started at the wall. Hermione ran over and leaned in front of her.

"Leah? LEAH!?" She started to shake the girl, but she didn't respond. "Fuck!" She jumped back up and grabbed her wand. "Expecto Patronum! Fred, George, come to the house now! It's Leah." And she sends the otter on its way. It took only but a minute before she heard the twins' footsteps run up the stair after seeing the downstairs empty.

Fred and George bursts into to the room and after a moment of shock they both moved to the bed. "Leah? Love? Wake up!" Fred's frantic voice echoed in the room as he tried to wake her up.

"Let's get her to St. Mungo's." George said with a trembling voice as he saw his twin pick her up. "What happened?"

"She – uhm – she used her sight to see Addie." Hermione said carefully as she followed the twins down the stairs. "I went to check on her a bit later, and she was just talking. When she didn't come down and went back up, at first, I thought she was asleep."

"Why would she do it without me?" Fred's shaking voice was full of fear as he looked down at the girl in his arms. Her head rested on his chest, but her eyes were still wide open, staring into nothingness.

"She said she needed to do it alone."

"But-"

"First mungo's." George interrupted and pushed his twin in the fireplace. "Hermione, can you inform the family and Minnie?"

"Uhm, yeah. We'll meet you there." She nodded and when the twins and Leah disappeared in a sea of green flames, she apparated to Grimmauld to get Harry and then to the burrow.

"Help! We need help!" George cried out the moment they stepped through the fireplace. Healers hurried over and tried to take the witch away from his twin, but Fred's grip went even tighter around her and wouldn't let go. When they realized they couldn't just take her from him, they allowed both of them to come into the room. It was only then Fred let her slide out of his arms, gently putting her on to the bed as the healers started to work. While Fred sat frozen next to her, George told the healers everything Hermione had told him, the healers were shocked at her sight; her ability, but quickly recovered and turned their attention back on the witch. George dropped down next to Fred, and they held each other's hands, trying to reassure each other. Three healers were working diagnostic spells all over her body, trying to figure out what was going on with her. The oldest healer whispered something to the two others before they walked in a hurry out of the room. George stood back up, holding his brother's hand and Leah's arm. "And?"

Before the healer could answer, Minerva appeared in the doorway. A scared and worried look spread across her face. Fred slowly rose from his seat, his hand still firmly in his twins, while his other was around Leah's. She strutted quickly across the room and to the boys' surprised, she engulfed them into a hug. When she pulled back, her eyes scanned Leah's body, who still laid wide-eyed on the bed. "So, do you have a diagnostic?"

"No." The healer looked a bit distraught. "It's not something we've seen before, seeing her situation... She isn't in any pain; it looks like she's in a comatose state. Her magic is weakened a bit."

"Can we take her home?" George asked, his eyes flickering between the healer and Leah.

"Not just yet, I want to see if the magic comes back on its own." Fred fell back in the chair next to Leah, his head falling on the bed. The healer looked between the four of them. "I'll let you be. I'll be back the moment we know more."

"Thank you." Minerva answered before the healer disappeared out of the room. "What happened?"

"Leah tried to contact Addie." George started falling back down in the seat next to Fred while Minerva conjured a third chair. "She didn't tell us, didn't tell Fred that she was going to do that. Hermione was there though, she waited downstairs while Leah went to her room. When she checked up on her she was talking to her, and she went back downstairs. But when she didn't come down after a few hours, Hermione went to look, she thought she had fallen asleep but..."

Minerva nodded slowly as she rose back up from her seat and walked towards the other side of the bed. "I'm just going to see how much of her magic weakened. I don't think the healers know how much it takes from her." At that Fred finally looked back up and while Minerva cast the spell on her, Fred gently stroked her cheek. "Her magic is very low and it's still draining." Minerva frowned as she lowered her wand.

"Her magic is still draining. But how?" George asked in surprise.

"I don't know for sure, but my guess is that she's stuck with Addie, that she doesn't want to let her go."

"How do we get her out of it?"

"I wish we could, but it's all up to her." Minerva sighed. "I'm going to check with the healers, tell them what I know. I'll be back."

"Do you think she can hear us?" Fred's asked when the door closed behind their old professor, his voice barely audible.

"I don't know, Freddie." He put his hand on his back. "Mione told me that when a muggle goes into a coma, they talk to them. They don't know for sure if they hear anything, but..." He looked from Fred to the door, where he heard feet shuffling behind. "I think the family is here. I'll talk to them." When Fred didn't react, he made his way out of the room.

Once his twin was out of the room, Fred crawled into the small bed and put Leah's head on his chest as he closed her eyes. His thumb slowly caressing her cheek as the tears started to fall. His hand fell down between them and when it landed next her hand, an idea popped in his head. He turned her hand around, making her show the scar, that now looked like a crescent moon tattoo. He slowly put his hand on hers, intertwining their fingers, making the scars connect and his thoughts were of only one thing. Her.

"Leah." He whispered as he closed his eyes.

The noises of the hospital disappeared, making it dead silent for a few seconds before he heard girls laughing. He opened his eyes and saw that he was standing in their bedroom at the house in Ottery St. Catchpole. One the bed was Leah, holding her side as she laughed so hard. A young girl, who looked a hell of a lot like Leah next to her, also laughing. When the young girl's eyes fell on Fred, her laughing stopped, but the smile stayed put.

"Oh, the boyfriend." The girl giggled. Leah's head spun around to look at Fred, her grin growing wide as she saw him standing there, before it fell when she saw the tears on his cheeks.

"Freddie?" Her voice laced with worry. Fred ran up to her and hugged her tight, his tears running even more freely know. "Hey, what's wrong?" She pulled back and wiped his tears away.

"You need to come back to me." His voice a whisper as he leaned his head against hers.

"Come- come back? I'm right here." Her confusion got worse when he shook his head.

"No, you're at St. Mungo's." He retreated his head back. "You're in a comatose state. Hermione found you when you contacted..." He looked over the young girl, who watched them with interest. "Addie."

"You can see her?" Leah's eyes went wide as she looked between the two, as Fred wasn't touching her at the moment. "How? You're not-"

"I am, at the hospital, I'm holding your hand there. We couldn't get you out of the state and I thought maybe..." He said as he showed her the scars and connected their hands, their fingers intertwined. "Then suddenly I was here."

"This is my fault." The young girl whispered. "I should've left when I felt your magic drain."

"No." Leah shook her head frantically and tried to reach for her, but Addie jumped off the bed.

"Leah, if I stay any longer, you'll ... you'll die." Her face sad as she watched the two. "And believe me when I say you'll have a whole full life ahead of you. Go back to Fred, to your new found family. I'll always be with you." She leaned over and kissed the top of her head, much to Fred's surprise. "Take care of my twin, would you." She smiled at Fred.

"Always." Fred promised.

"I love you." Addie's last whisper before she disappeared with a flicker. Leah's eyes were filled with tears as she looked at the spot Addie vanished.

"Come back to me, love." Fred's voice pulled her back and the next moment they both woke up in a dark lit room in St. Mungo's.

"Thank Merlin!" George cried in relief, flinging himself at the two, wrapping his large arms around them. "When I came back in." He started as he pulled back. "You were asleep, sort of. And your hands were glowing."

"Glowing?" Fred frowned as he lifted their intertwined hands.

"It was a bright white light, it disappeared when you two came out of it." Minerva said, who was standing on the other side of the bed.

"Like the light when the cut healed itself when we were eight." George said putting his two hands around theirs.

"Can I?" A healer asked when she came closer, holding up her wand. Leah who was still confused as what exactly had happened, nodded absently. The healer started to cast diagnostic spells on her, and she rested her head on Fred's shoulder, feeling tired. "It seems like your magic is coming back. But I would like you to stay over tonight."

"We're not leaving." The twins said simultaneously, making a tired smile appear on Leah's face.

"Alright." The healer nodded, expecting this answer. "There are some cots in the closed there. And I know your family is outside waiting for more news, but I suggested only two can see her tonight, for about twenty minutes tops. Then she needs her rest."

Leah couldn't disagree. If it wasn't for the talking around her, she would've fallen asleep in an instant. But she would like to see two in specific before she let her succumb to sleep, and like Fred could read her mind he asked. "Harry and Hermione?" When she gave a small nod, George let their hands go and hopped out of the bed, walking out the room followed by the healer.

"Let's talk when you feel better okay?" Minerva smiled as she rested her hand on her shoulder. "Good night, Leah."

"Night, Minnie." And when Minerva opened the door again, George, Hermione and Harry walked in. The two were quick to sit on the end of her bed, looking at her with a worried expression.

"Hey, cousin." Leah smiled at Harry.

"Hi, cous." Harry chuckled with a smile.

"Hermione, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"

"I know." She placed her hand on her knee. "Just don't scare us like that again."

"I promise."
