Chapter 116: Back at UA

20:22, 2 January 2020

The moment Deku had left the house Uraraka quickly made her way into the kitchen to hide from Eri who went into the living room to watch TV. She did so so that the small girl didn't see her breakdown into nothing but tears. Her thoughts raced at a hundred miles an hour and her heartbeat was so fast she thought her heart was going to explode. She leaned over the sink feeling like she was going to throw up placing both hands on either side of it to avoid falling over as her head spun and her tears fell into the sink below her each tear making a small splatter.

I hate feeling like this. That might have been the last time I ever see his face. The last time I got to hold him. The last time I got to look into those wonderful green eyes that are always so full of life. He could die. There's so much that I wish I'd said to him. He laid it all out on the line for me before he left and all I could say was thank you? That's not enough I should've said more. I should've told him much I loved him and how much he's changed my life for the better and how much stronger he's made me. I should've-

Suddenly there was a loud knock at the door.

"Mommy! Somebody's at the door!" Eri called from the living room. Uraraka quickly wiped the tears from her eyes and collected herself before turning on the tap and splashing herself in the face with water to try and freshen her up and snap her out of her own head as she wondered who it was that could be at the door. She walked out of the kitchen and to the door before taking a deep breath and opening it.

"Surprise!" her parents screamed with euphoria embracing their daughter. However Uraraka was in complete shock and disbelief and didn't move stood frozen with her arms by her side still as her parents squeezed her tightly.

"M-mom? D-dad? W-when did- how did you...I'm dreaming right?" she asked not quite believing that what she was seeing was real. Her parents couldn't help but laugh.

"No you're not dreaming. This is real we're really here" her father replied still not letting go of her. At this point Uraraka started tearing up overjoyed that her parents were here during what was a difficult moment for her. Nothing could have made her happier right now. Well other than Deku returning safe and sound. She pulled her arms out from her parents tight embrace and wrapped one around each of them embracing them both.

"I've missed you guys so much" Uraraka said balling her eyes out.

"We've missed you too" her mother replied.

"How long have you guys been planning this?" Uraraka asked.

"Months. Ever since you called us after that horrible incident with Shigaraki. We watched the whole thing live on TV. It was brutal. But we decided then and there after we spoke to you on the phone that we had to come back and see you ASAP we felt awful for being so far away when something so horrible was happening to you" her mother explained.

"We would've come sooner but we kept having issues at work that we needed to stay behind and fix so we had to keep postponing. However the company we're working for understood our situation and paid for our flight here and back so that we could see you for a couple of days" her father added.

"Well I'm glad you're both here I'm so happy to see you" Uraraka said as they finally broke off from their embrace and Uraraka yet again wiped tears from her eyes. Thankfully her parents thought nothing of them or the redness in her eyes as she'd just been sobbing her heart out so they assumed it was from that.

"Well come in you can both meet Eri" Uraraka said gesturing for her parents to enter.

"Oh I can't wait. Is she as adorable as you make her out to be on the phone?" her mother asked excited to meet her granddaughter.

"She's way more adorable than that although she's just as much trouble. Eri come here and meet your grandparents" Uraraka called as she closed the door behind her parents. Sure enough a very excited little girl came bursting into the hallway and her eyes lit up with excitement when she saw the two much larger adults before her.

"Awww look at her little boots. Aren't you just the sweetest little thing" Mrs Uraraka said unable to contain herself.

"I'm not little. I'm a big girl now" Eri protested.

"Of course you are. Ochako told me it was your birthday a few weeks ago. So how old does that make you now?" Mr Uraraka asked kneeling down before the small girl so that they were more face to face.

"I'm eight. And I've grown too. That makes me a big girl just like mommy" Eri said with a big beaming smile of pride on her face which made Mr Uraraka chuckle and Mrs Uraraka let out another "awwww" which put a smile on Uraraka's face forgetting for a moment about all of her worries. However just then there was a knock at the door.

"Hm? Who could that be?" Uraraka asked aloud. She began to make her way to the door however she'd barely taken a step when the door flung open.

"Ochako! Where is he!? Where's Izuku!?" Inko screamed as she burst into the house and ran straight up to Uraraka when she saw her grabbing her hands and squeezing them tightly her eyes full of worry and desperation.

"Ochako what's going on? Who is this woman?" her father asked a little worried about the stranger who had just burst into the house and grabbed his daughter by the hands knowing her on a first name basis and pleading to know where her boyfriend was.

"Right sorry. Mom. Dad. This is Inko Midoriya. Deku's mother" Uraraka explained introducing them all.

"Oh I'm so sorry it's lovely to meet you both but I'm afraid I have something very important to speak about with your daughter. I don't mean to be rude but this is urgent and my son's wellbeing depends on it. Do you mind if we have a word in private?" Inko asked the married couple. They both looked each other dazed and very confused before nodding to each other.

"Sure no problem you two are clearly well acquainted as it is" Mr Uraraka said.

"Thank you. Thank you so much as soon as we're done I'd love to meet and speak to you properly" Inko said trying her best to be polite.

I can see why Deku is so nice now even when she's scared for Deku's life she's doing her best not to be rude or upset anyone and be polite. It's admirable to be honest I don't think I could be this nice all the time.

"Right why don't we talk in the kitchen. Eri you can show grandma and grandad what you got for Christmas in the living room if you like?" Uraraka suggested trying to keep Eri out of the way too. Despite her suspicions since her father had been mentioned and she was now worried about him her excitement to show her grandparents what she got for Christmas was too much for her and she gave into temptation.

"Oh yay! Come on come on! Follow me!" Eri squealed with excitement leading the Uraraka's into the living room.

"Ok Inko come with me. Would you like a drink?" Uraraka offered since the poor woman was sweating and panting clearly having sprinted here as fast as she could.

"Some water would be much appreciated if you don't mind" Inko said taking a seat at the kitchen table.

"Not at all" Uraraka said grabbing two glasses and filling them both with water from the same sink she'd been crying her eyes out into moments ago. The sickness she'd felt suddenly returned as her worry for Deku came back tenfold. She'd already been terrified about what might happen to him and now she had Inko sat before her also terrified and desperately looking for him.

Does she even know about the mission? Did Deku tell her? He was sworn to secrecy. I only know because I overheard the meeting which wasn't Deku's fault. Even still what do I do if she doesn't know? I can't lie to her if it's as urgent as it seems.

"Here you go" Uraraka said handing the glass over to Inko before taking a seat next to her. As she did she only just noticed that Inko had a backpack on.

How did I miss that?

"Thank you" Inko said taking a swig of water from the glass.

"So...what's going on? Why do you need to find Deku so badly?" Uraraka asked. Inko ran her finger around the brim of the glass for a moments clearly contemplating what to say before finally stopping and looking up into Uraraka's eyes taking a deep breath before she spoke.

"Look I know he's on that mission or whatever it was he told me this morning over the phone he just didn't say what it was about or where he was going. He just kept telling me that he loved me and appreciated everything I've ever done for him. Which got me worried. Did he go looking for his father?" Inko asked.

So she does know about his mission. Makes sense I guess Deku couldn't bear leaving his mother out of the loop. She just doesn't know the details.

"No he didn't. The mission is something else but he has plenty of top heroes around him to help protect him and keep him safe if that's what you're worried about. No need to be concerned they'll look after him" Uraraka said trying to comfort the older woman.

Hm. Practice what you preach Ochako.

"Right. Ok. That's one less worry I guess. Ok then my next question then is where is he and what's this mission about?" Inko asked staring into Uraraka's eyes.

Oh crap. What do I do? What am I saying? I have to tell her the truth. It's impossible to lie to her when she's this desperate. I'm not ready to tell her yet though. I don't even know why she's here. Quick Ochako think....think...

"What's in the backpack?" Uraraka asked trying to divert the conversation. Inko saw what she was doing though and put the pieces together herself.

"He's in Hosu city isn't he?" Inko asked.

"W-what? No he isn't he's-...I can't lie to you yes he is" Uraraka replied.

"Why?" Inko asked again pressing the teenager for an answer. Uraraka avoiding eye contact this time and stared into her glass.

"All for One is there. That's why they evacuated the city on 'official hero business' so they could form a raid party and bring him in. Deku went with them" Uraraka explained. To her surprise Inko didn't panic, get upset, cry, scream or do anything she stayed perfectly calm and simply took a deep breath.

"I thought as much. I guess now it's time I answer your question about what's in the backpack. Although I'm warning you Ochako I'm not sure you're ready to hear all of this" Inko explained taking the backpack off of her back and placing on the floor next to her before unzipping it.

What could it possibly be?

"Whatever it is I'm ready. Let's hear it" Uraraka said bracing herself for the worst.

"Ok. Well here's his x-ray from when I took Izuku to the doctor's to see if he had a quirk. If you look here he has two joints in his little toe which apparently means that he's quirkless. People with quirks are born with just the one joint they don't have the extra one. I've heard that this isn't always the case as some people with the extra joint still possess quirks but that's a rarity" Inko explained.

"Right ok. So why are you showing me this? I already knew all this" Uraraka said confused what Inko was getting at.

"Well now take a look at this x-ray. This is the same foot only a couple of years later when Izuku broke a bone in his foot. Notice anything unusual?" Inko asked a smirk on her face. Uraraka studied the two images closely comparing the two as they sat side by side. She studied the broken bone in his foot and grimaced at how painful it looked and then she compared the little toe on each image and her eyes lit up in shock and realisation.

"Oh...my...god...you mean-" Uraraka began but Inko cut her off too excited to let her finish her sentence.

"Izuku was born with a quirk" Inko said. Sure enough on the foot of Deku's broken foot from a few years later he didn't have the extra joint.

"But...why fake the results? Who would do that?" Uraraka questioned.

"I don't know. All I know is that according to the information we have he does have a quirk. Or at least it's highly likely that he does anyway like I said it's a rarity that people without the extra joint don't have a birth given quirk" Inko explained.

"This is great! Deku is going to be so happy but if he was born with one then there's only question left" Uraraka said as the two women locked eyes and both said it at the same time.

"What's his quirk?..."

Apologies for dragging this out but trust me it's all gonna be worth it as the next chapter will answer all the questions as to who Deku's father is and what his birth given quirk is. All I can say is I'm so hyped to see your reactions when I put the chapter out it's gonna be insane.
