MY MIND CAN'T stop wandering today. Staring at Sun, I watch as he plays around with all the little kiddos. I find myself smiling hard.
It was unbearable. Why the hell do I like an animatronic?— HOW the hell, do I like an animatronic.
Maybe Liz was right - - it wasn't impossible. At least I didn't feel so alone about all of this. She was going through very similar issues now that she's been left by an asshole guy. Funny how all it takes is one bad person to push you past sanity. Now we're simping over our metallic coworkers.
"Miss Y/N?" A little girl smiles up at me curiously. I glance down to the familiar raven and raise a brow. "Yes?"
"Some of the other kids and I wanted to play a song . . But, we were wooondering . ." She folds her hands behind her back, feet rocking with anticipation.
I narrow my eyes onto Katrina, seeing all the other little faces peeking from around the corner.
"If you and Sundrop could dance for us?" Katrina asked eagerly with a big grin spreading across her face.
I didn't have to think twice.
"Oh, sure! Did you ask Sun yet? He'd probably like t—"
"—Well, that's the thing," a soft smirk crept up her face. "We wanted you to ask him . ."
My eyes widened slightly.
Growing some more confidence would be great, but I don't think I can ask Sun to dance with me. It feels . . awkward? Especially after the other night.
I told him to stay away from me.
We haven't talked much in a couple of days. I just did my job, and he did his, while I worked at the daycare desk. I haven't even heard about Moon, either.
Truth is though, I didn't want either of them to stay away. I wanted to be close by, enjoying their company. But with the way Moon's system was acting out, it's been hard. And Sunrise just doesn't trust himself around me.
"O-Oh, uhh . . Well," my mind comes to a halt.
How do I explain this sort of thing to a nine year old?
"We know you like him. I've been here enough to see that." Katrina pokes my cheek and starts giggling like a madwoman.
I find myself blushing and pull away from her grasp. "Look, Sun and I are in sort of a, um,"
She gasps. "A fight?!"
My eyes widen, and I wave my hands desperately. "No, no! Not a fight, but . . Something happened between us." I lower my voice. "So, I just don't think I should go up to him, first, for a while."
She frowns, and a few others behind her do the same. Katrina sighs softly, then looks back to the celestial animatronic.
"What if we told him to dance with you instead?" A little boy butted in. I smile weakly down at him. "Good luck with that. But you can try." I cross my arms over my chest.
Soon enough, the kids all run over to Sun, who was preoccupied by the child in his arms. He'd been laughing, and having a good time, from what it seemed.
"What? No, I can't do that!" He yells nervously down at the kids.
I feel his eyes make their way to me, before fleeing desperately in case I caught him staring.
"But you gotta! It'll be so fun," I hear the kids encourage him anyway.
"Children, no! It's against her rules, I can't."
After a few minuets of the children convincing him, I soon see the nervous, yellow, metal clump in front of me.
I look up from my paperwork, and awkwardly smile. He does the same. The kids all stand around us giggling quietly behind their hands.
"Y/N," he speaks, a hand on the back of his neck. "The kids are making me ask you this, but, eeh— did you want to dance with me?" His words almost began to glitch out.
I really wanted to laugh at how bad his system was reacting to his unsettling nerves. It was cute. Instead though, I held my laugh back and smiled instead.
After all, it was for the kids.
They all look up at me with big, hopeful eyes. I knew if I said no, they'd be devastated. Besides, I wanted to.
"Sure, why not." Rounding the desk, I grab his hand and we stare each other down.
"O-Oh, you're not mad at me, are you?" His voice shook. I can feel how warm he was starting to get. "I tried to tell them! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make you upse—" his frantic anxiety ridden voice made its way into my head.
I decide to cut him off. "Sun!" I smile, "It's okay." I reply. "I'm not mad."
The kids played some old Taylor Swift song from one of their iPods, and here was Sun and I— slow dancing to it.
I wanted to die. This was beyond embarrassing, but at the same time . . sort of nice?
My hand in his, his other placed on my back. We rocked back and forth, did a few little spins, then went back to slowly dancing.
The kids grinned, some even stared up in awe.
I could literally faint. I missed Sun, and I miss our times spent talking each other's ears off. He was the best part of my day, and there I was, telling him to stay away from me.
It was all within good reason, but I didn't want to do that anymore. I didn't even want to do it to begin with.
"I didn't know you could dance," Sundrop said, looking down at me. I smile, nodding. "Prom taught me a thing or two." A laugh escapes me.
He heats up to an even warmer temperature. I figured a system warning would eventually pop up, if he kept at that rate.
"I'm really sorry about everything that happened." He mumbled down to my ear.
I nod, grabbing his arm. "I know."
The kids clap away in rhythm, running around the two of us. The dreaded song finally ends, and I can't help but feel a little disappointed about it.
Sun doesn't let go of my hand though. He keeps it tightly held in his own grip.
"Alright! That's it for the day!" Sun grins down at the kids. They all give small 'aww's' in return. "Get ready for crafts! We're going to have a fun rest of the day." Sunny beams with excitement.
The kids do as told, getting their things together, and going to pick out their art pieces to work with.
I giggle softly.
"SYSTEM WARNING: OVER HEATING"
I look up to Sun and feel him take his hand away from me, grabbing at his head anxiously. "Ah! No, no, no," he speaks through his nerves.
I smirk up at him curiously. "Are you okay?"
"Y-Yup! Just ducky! I'll be fine." He waves me off. Sun tried to calm himself down, giving me a slight bit of amusement in the ordeal.
I think it was sort of cute how worked up he would get around me.
"Sunny, try to relax." I find myself laughing a little up at him. He frowns in confusion. "How am I supposed to do that? You're standing in front of me,"
Leaning forward, I tilt my head slightly to the side. "Am I making you nervous~?" My finger pokes his chest plate. He creeps backwards and shrugs. "W-Well - - a little bit,"
I giggle again, walking closer. "So I do make you nervous; That's too funny."
"It's not funny." He huffs, crossing his arms. "It's actually really annoyi—"
"SYSTEM WARNING, OVER HEATING PROCESS "
I laugh more, standing beside him. "Alright, alright. Settle down there, you have kids to go take care of." He groans with annoyance, desperately trying to step away from me, though I had been creeping up on him when he'd move away. "Why do you do this to me?"
I shrug innocently, hands now behind my back. I continue to smile up at him, with a curl of my lip. "I dunno, guess it's just fun~"
Sun narrows his eyes, getting a little more frustrated with me. I think it's funny when he gets mad. Sun can actually be a bit of a hot head when something really ticks him off.
But I can't lie . . It's kind of amusing. Getting any type of reaction out him was fun, honestly.
"Fun?!" He earns the slight attention of a couple kids. I smirk, nodding. "Uhuh."
Sun rolls his eyes, walking away while shaking his head from the thoughts creeping into his mind. "Y/N, I think I should go back to staying away from you for a little bit."
I laugh harder, grabbing his arm. "It's just jokes! Don't go, I want you around again."
He stops, turning around. "Really?"
Looking up at him, I frown. "Yeah, I miss you."
"Well I, I-I missed you too, Y/N." He replies softly.
I hum softly in reply, "I can tell."
His arm was heating up so much, that he really was starting to feel like the sun. I yank my hand back out of instinct, and shake it off. "Holy shit you're hot," — and I didn't mean it as a compliment this time.
"I should probably try to turn my cooling system on, huh?" He chuckles nervously. I nod. "You don't want to burn the kids."
"Oh no! I don't want to do that!" He exclaims anxiously. "Uh, so . . h-how do I get myself to stop thinking about you?"
I feel my face burn up. Oop— so he's just openly admitting it now?
I laugh awkwardly, and take a step back from him. "Uhhah, I don't know. That's something you and Moon will have to figure out, I guess." As I spin on my heel, I try to turn away. "I need to figure that out too . ." I mumble softly at the floor.
I feel a hand grab my shoulder, preventing me from going anywhere. "What?"
I cringe, looking up at him. "Ye— uh, well," I find myself stuttering. "Sun, I need to tell you something . ."
