Coming out: Parents Pt 1
20:21, 10 August 2016*Laura's POV*
"Should I call my mom or go see her in person?" I ask Tay who is sitting perfectly in front of me.
"I don't know. How do you think she will react?" Tay looks nervous.
"It doesn't matter how she reacts, I love you. That's all that matters." I try to comfort her nervousness.
"Okay. I love you too. But I'm really scared to tell my parents Laura." She grabs my hand.
"Listen, if your parents can raise someone as amazing as you, someone accepting and with morals, someone who appreciates the littlest things and wouldn't hurt a fly, someone so perfect in every way, then I believe you got your personality traits from no where strange. Your parents are probably almost as amazing as you." I look into her eyes.
"You're right babe. Thank you." She leans her head against my shoulder.
I hate the fact that she's so nervous. I'm nervous but I can handle my mom being mad at me, not saying Taylor can't. But my mom is like my best friend and we have a different mother/daughter relationship than most. Taylor is very family oriented and would be devastated if anything came between her and her family.
"Don't worry. Hey? Why don't you call your mom, tell her to invite your dad over to her house, then we will both go over and if they like me then we will tell them. Together." I try to make her as comfortable as I can.
"That sounds great baby." She smiles.
"Call her now, and I'll call my mom and tell her over the phone."I go to get up and leave the room but Taylor stops me.
"You are perfect. You always know how to make me feel better." She cups my cheeks and kisses me.
"I want you to know that whatever happens between us I'm here for you." I kiss her right back.
I leave the room. I step into the living room and dial up my mom's number on my cellphone.
"Hello." My mom answers.
"Hey mom." I smile into the phone as if she can see me. Me and my mom talk and see each other quite often, but we haven't spoke in awhile because I've been so busy.
"Oh my god, Laura! Hey baby girl. How are you?" She sounded happy to hear me.
"I'm actually doing really good. I miss you. We need to get together soon." I try to have small talk.
"Yes we do. I really miss you. You don't come around enough." She gets serious.
"I know mom, I've been really busy. Work, relationships, just so much." I try and slide in hints.
"Relationships?" My mom chuckles.
"Yeah I have some news actually." I start to get worried about telling her.
"What is it? Are you okay?" She sounded more worried than I did.
"Yes I'm great, more happy then I have ever been." I smile thinking about Taylor making me this happy.
"That's good, so what's the news then?" She asks again.
"I'm in a relationship. I know it's been a while since me and Chris, but the relationship I'm in now is amazing mom. I have never felt this way before and we have only been together for a couple months."
"Details, I want the details!" My mom was a little on the noisy side.
I laugh into the phone, still feeling nervous to tell her it was with a girl.
"Well, we met on the show I'm working on. We seriously had like an instant connection mom, the minute we looked into each others eyes I knew I felt someone special. I'm not one to believe in love at first sight but I can't even explain the things I feel. I've never been this happy and felt this loved in a relationship. Our love is so mutual. I can see myself in the future, getting married and living and having a truly great life with them. I can't even explain into proper words mom. I want you two to meet."
I look behind me seeing Taylor standing by the door, looking at me with the most touched looked. I couldn't believe she was listening tome rant on about her.
"Oh my god. I feel so happy for you Laura. That's how I felt about your dad." She was getting all emotional, just as I was about Taylor.
"So does this mysterious person who is seeing my daughter have a name?" My mom was trying to get all the details out of me.
"Taylor." I was glad she has a unisex name.
"Well, when I meet him, I'm going to make sure he knows his place."My heart stopped when she said 'him'.
"We're going to come see you today for a quick visit. You're in fora surprise." I crack up at the fact she is going to freak when she see's a girl.
"Okay! Sounds good, I'm excited!" She says.
We say our goodbyes and hang up the phone.
I put my phone down and feel hands wrap around my waist, and a gentle kiss being placed on the back of my neck.
"You really like me huh?" Taylor's cocky side was hot.
"Nope." I turn around and look at her.
"I really love you." I kiss her.
We embrace. Our lips collide in a loving manner. I love feeling her against me.
"So what did your mom say?" I pull away.
"She said she would call my dad and make him come over, I said we could be there for 2." She was still holding my waist.
"Okay, so the drive to your mom's should be about an hour, then we stay for an hour and drive back, that's three hours. Which means we should be back by 5. The we can head over to my mom's house for dinner and be there by 6. Sound good?" I try and work our the timing perfect.
"Wow, this is going to be a busy and nerve racking day." She looks up at me.
"You have nothing to worry about." I hug her.
"C'mon we gotta leave now if we're going to make it to your mom's on time." I grab our purses and we head out and lock up.
We had a pretty busy next two days with our parents and this house buying.
We arrived at Taylor's house exactly an hour later. I was nervous to get out of the car for them to be expecting Taylor's new "boyfriend".Taylor and I talked in the car about how we were going to break it to her parents. Tay never told her parents she was in a relationship, she just said that she had someone that she wanted them to meet.
We both got out of the car, I followed behind Taylor as we walked up the steps to her mom's house. Taylor got out her key and opened up the door without knocking. My heart almost stopped as I heard her mom walk down the hall.
"Hello?" Taylor's mom said from down the hall.
"Hey mom it's me!" Taylor shouts.
Her mom came running down the hallway.
"Hey baby! I have missed you." Her mom runs and pulls Taylor into a tight hug.
"I know, me too mom. Mom this is my amazing co-star and friend Laura." Taylor puts her hand in the middle of my back.
"Oh my god, Laura Prepon! I'm a huge fan of That 70's Show." Tay's mom pulls me in for a hug.
"Oh really? That's amazing. It was a really great show." I try to make small talk.
"I'm Patricia, but you can call me Trish." She pulls away from our hug.
"It's nice to meet you Trish. I can see where Tay gets her beauty."I smile at her.
"Oh you're too sweet darling. Come on you two, let's go sit in the living room." Trish leads us to the living room.
"Hey baby girl." Taylor's dad stands up and opens his arms.
"Hey daddy." Taylor reaches and hugs him.
"Daddy, this is Laura."
"Hello sir." I wave.
"Sir? Call me Bob!" He brings me in for a tight hug.
"So sit down girls, let's catch up and get to know you Laura." Trish motions us to sit down.
I don't know why Taylor is nervous about telling her parents about us, they seem really cool and accepting.
"So you guys met on my new favorite show Orange is the New Black?" Tay's mom engages in conversation.
From hearing about Taylor's parents from her, I pictured them as these sweet, innocent, christian parents who followed God and religion. But I guess that's not the case. They are actually really funny and dirty! My type of humor.
"You're favorite show mom? I don't believe that for a second." Tay starts laughing.
"I'm serious, it's hilarious! I'm addicted. It's a little explicit.Especially with the two of you, but still." Trish winks at us.
"Oh my god mom." Taylor's cheeks start to go crimson.
"Yes, we met on Orange, we have never met before our chemistry read." I answer to take off some of Taylor's embarrassment.
"Well that's nice. What was so special about your reading together that made you get the part?" Trish seemed intrigued.
"I don't know. There was just something there and it was easily projected through the reading. It felt so right, and still does when we do our scenes now." I look over at Taylor with a true look of love.
"That's really good you guys became good friends after too. You look like you have off screen chemistry too." Her mom was smiling.
"We do." Taylor grins at me.
I had no idea when Tay was going to tell her parents. But I knew that when she did I was going to have to stand behind her in whatever her parents have to say. I feel like they will be happy and understanding, but I don't know them as well as Taylor does obviously. I feel like Taylor keeps trying to slid it in, but friend zones us really fast after.
I'm starting to think her mom is even sensing something fishy because she keeps looking at us weird, and asking us some very...interesting questions.
"So how often do you guys hangout?" Her dad is even asking questions now.
I feel like we're being interrogated, in a loving way. I chuckle to myself that they keep asking us question after question. And it looks like Taylor is getting annoyed.
"Mom...Dad...can we have a normal conversation without being interviewed." Taylor laughs at her own statement.
"C'mon honey, were making talk. I always hear you talking about Laura, were just trying to see how amazing you make her sound." Her mom winks at me.
I send Taylor a glare and see her red face. My face is definitely just as red or more red.
"Mom, Laura is amazing. So amazing that I can't even put it into words. I know I've told you a lot about her. Except one thing."Taylor was about to tell her and my heart was out of control on how this was going to play out.
"What is that one thing?" Patricia seemed kind of concerned.
"We are living together." She backed out out of saying we're dating.
"Aweh! That's so nice girls. I remember living with my best friend. We had so much fun." Her mom sounded happy about it.
"Yeah but the difference is, my best friend is also my girlfriend." My face got serious really fast when she said that. And so did her moms.
"What?" Her dad piped up.
"Yeah we're dating. I'm bisexual." She didn't even seem nervous.
"Wow. That's...wow I'm happy for you two." Her mom wasn't as happy as I expected.
"That's alright, as long as you're happy I guess." Her dad tried his best to sound genuine.
"Listen, I know you guys probably aren't the most happy with this current situation, but honestly I don't think I could ever find someone better than your daughter. We have been together for months now and I truly thought I was straight, but Taylor makes 'love' have a whole new meaning." I grab Taylor's hand.
"I mean obviously this isn't the most ideal thing that we had thought of, but Laura you're a great woman and I could tell Taylor had some special new glow to her. Clearly you're her glow." I smile when her mom says such nice things.
Taylor seemed to ease up when her mom was happy for us. Her dad understood, he wasn't thrilled per-say but he understood. He seen his baby girl happy and I think that was good enough for him.
We stayed and talked about our relationship for a bit, but then realized we had to leave if we were going to make it to my mom's house.
"It was so great to meet you Trish, and you as well Bob. I promise to treat this amazing woman perfect." I gave both of them a hug.
"You better." They both say and laugh in unison.
Taylor and her parents say their goodbyes and hug and kiss before were-enter the car for another road trip. We are about ten minutes into the car ride and I feel Tay's hand grab mine.
"Did you really mean what you said about love?" I can see her staring at me.
"I meant it. Love is just a word, but you give it the definition." I put my hand on her thigh while I drive with my other hand.
"You're amazing." She rests her head on my shoulder.
"You ready to meet my mom and crazy family baby?" I chuckle.
"Oh boy." If she's nervous about her own parents, imagine how she feels about my family.
