Secrets

                                        Chapter 10

“We finally meet Ms Everdeen , might I say you look a lot like your ancestors” , he says the Ancestors like a forbidden word.

“I know” , I say.

“You’re probably wondering why I am here aren’t you?” , he says mischievously.

I nod.

“I am here to inform you of a very serious matter , or should I say matters” he says in a serious tone.

I sit down on a wooden chair and put Willow on my lap.

“We have a serious problem on our hands Ms. Everdeen , you have interfered in my plan , I wanted all of your family to die and leave one to suffer , but now you stand in the way and you have made matters even worse by having 2 winners , I don’t suppose you’ve heard  what happened to Mr. Seneca Crane hmm?”

“No , I haven’t”  , I say curiously.

“He was hung on a rope the other day , commited suicide because he heard about the punishment being given to other people in the capitol.”

I shudder at the thought of capitol punishment , It must be horrific.

“Seneca died with secrets Ms. Everdeen , Secrets that only myself and him knew , I myself have secrets , if only people were to know , then we would have a rebellion on our hands , we wouldn’t want that now would we? , but Miss Everdeen , I feel like I need to tell some secrets , I’ll give you them” , he says fishing out an envelope.

“What you read in this envelope you must not share with a single soul , you don’t want your remaining family dead I assume” , he says coldly.

“I can assure you sir that I will keep my mouth shut , Thank you for trusting me with your secrets” , I say gratefully.

“I will see you and Cato at your Victors ball   next week , we will have to catch up then” , he says rising from the chair.

Later that day:

I’m just after tucking in Willow and I am now sitting in the sitting room with the fire lighting.

I snuggle into my cashmere blanket and watch the flames.

Why would Snow trust me of all people with his secrets? , what if the contents of them envelope could save Panem? , Then what would I do?

I fish the envelope out of my pocket and eye it curiously.

I open it carefully and 2 sheets  fall into my hands.

I put the empty envelope onto the coffee table.

Go to your bookcase and pick up the green book , Katniss.

 

I walk over to the oak bookcase and take out the book and hold in my hand.

Look at the back of it.

 

There is a small disk at the back of the book.

Go to a private area and put it in the holodisk player.

 

I walk up to my bedroom and put in the player.

I sit down on my bed and stare at the TV screen.

Two words appear on screen , TOP SECRET.

A man and a capitol woman are in the bed , I can only guess what they are doing.

“Tell me your secrets” , The man whispers.

“Finnick , when we are finished” , the woman giggles.

Finnick is a prostitute , I think we all knew that already.

They disappear and Cato appears on screen and he has a sword in his hand , he looks vigilant , he tiptoes into a room with a woman who looks kind of like him laying on the floor with a pool of blood around her.

Cato then spots a man and suddenly lunges at him.

Cato was a murderer before the games.

I can’t even bring it up to him  because of Snow’s threat.

The disk stops and  I read the rest of the letter.

 

Panem being threatened by outside groups on the other side of Earth , We are overnumbered greatly , it could end bad. Very Very Bad , The dark days have returned Ms. Everdeen , Take your side wisely.
