11(Shadowhunters)

An Au where there already existed many shadowhunters and a few Institutes that were fighting for equality between nephilims and downworlders.

Like, they exist since about the time Tessa was born or a few years before and they just hide themselves when Valentine arose to powers and slowly went back to working on their goal after he 'died'.

Unknown to Maryse and Robert, they sent Alec to study for some time in one of Institutes were everyone was all for equality and that is where Alec learnt that he and his siblings weren't alone in their beliefs and also learnt how to slowly start working on getting his institute to be a safe place for everyone(because in the Institute Alec had been at, the Head's son was dating a man and no one batted an eye to it and supported the couple).

When Clary appeared things went similar except that when it was found that she was Valentine's daughter he put his foot down and had his siblings and Clary looked in their rooms(with strict orders that they couldn't leave and no one was allowed to visit them except for Alec and someone he absolutely trusted to take food for them) before he went and contact his allies in getting downwolders equal rights.

The meeting with his allies took a few hours but at the end, the Head of the Institute were Alec had studied informed Alec that he should contact Magnus and give all the information upfront when asking him what he knew about Valentine, Jocelyn, Clary and the missing memories since Magnus was the person they all trusted the most and had helped them especially the Head's son's boyfriend who had been the eldest child of the previous Heads of the New York Institute, the Whitelaws.

Meaning that Malec's first meeting was different(and so their love story would be different), the warlocks were not attacked, certain trio didn't go around creating chaos after chaos, Luke made sure Simon was safe, there was no arranged wedding especially as I think Magnus or one of their allies would have told Alec about his parents having being Circle members and not to trust Hodge completely, the Clave would not have as much power over the Institutes as they believe, Valentine would be dealt with faster as Alec would have more allies to help him instead of leaving everything for the usual group in canon, etc

Also, this means that everything that happens and how it happens after Malec's first meeting is up to the writer and most of what I put above are suggestion about things I would want to see but that aren't obligated to go like this.
