Ch 6

I couldn't help the frustrated sigh that slipped past my lips. Bruce was most definitely going to catch wind about this. "We're going to be in so much trouble..." I quickly pulled out my grappling gun and shot it out to a nearby building. Once it was stable I began swinging down the street and quickly caught up to Damian. As I approached the two males I noticed that Damian was readying his sword to behead our only informant for the case. "WAIT-!" I shouted as I sprinted as fast as I could to stop Damian from killing the man.

That was when suddenly a strong force suddenly swooped in and kicked Damian harshly in the side. The said boy landed roughly in the dirt while the attacker stood tall catching his dropped sword in the air. "The psychos just keep getting younger." A familiar voice spoke with a slight smirk towards Damian's hunched over body. "Nightwing..." I trailed off with a relieved smile. The man clad in black and blue glanced at me with a smile, "Well if it isn't little Jay." Nightwing said as I stood by his side with a proud smile. This was short lived, however seeing as Damian finally got to his feet and immediately charged towards us with a growl.

"Wait hold on!" I tried to plead to Damian but he immediately attacked Nightwing. My voice went unheard as the two went back and forth and Damian managed to take his sword back and inflict more damage. While they battled it out I walked over to the previous enemy and punched him hard enough to knock him out. Once that was taken care of I turned back around to face the two males battling it out and decided to interrupt. After making sure my almost nonexistent presence was masked I teleported in between the two and swung my leg out kicking Damian across the face. Nightwing took this opportunity to tie the murderous child up and hang him from the lightpost above us.

"Traitor!" Damian growled out as he writhed in a furious anger. I narrowed my eyes as his green ones burned with rage. "You nearly killed a man! What did you expect me to do?" Nightwing glanced between us before speaking up. "The two of you know each other?" After I explained the connection and Damian arrogantly announced himself to be Batman's son, Nightwing contacted Bruce. Bruce eventually arrived to pick us up and he was far from pleased as he glared at Damian and then down towards me. The amount of fear I felt was much worse than whatever fear I felt before. "You both have a lot of explaining to do." The Bat stated as he turned his attention to Nightwing's many injuries.

Once we arrived home Nightwing was sent to get his wounds treated and Bruce left momentarily. Of course with nothing better to do with our time Damian watched Dick from the railings above and I sat next to Alfred. "It really ticks me off, after all those lectures about using protection." Dick complained in annoyance. Alfred gave a slight nod and answered, "Indeed." I narrowed my eyes in confusion at Dick's statement but shook it off as I watched Alfred work on the stitches. Once the said man pulled the needle through Dick winced in pain.

"Are you alright, Master Dick?" Alfred questioned in slight concern towards the man. Dick merely smiled as he spoke, "I took the cut, I can take the stitch." All of a sudden a voice was heard from above us all. "Maybe you need more anesthetic." Damian commented with a condescending tone. Dick narrowed his eyes in annoyance almost jumping up to shout, "And maybe you should go f-" Before he could finish Alfred interrupted, "Master Dick." Dick glanced at the butler and noticed Alfred slightly nod his head towards me as I watched him. Dick sighed and slowly relaxed back into the chair.

With a patronizing scoff Damian glared down at Dick. "Maybe you should remember who the blood son is." Dick merely answered with another snide remark to the boy. After a moment I began drifting off in thought. I wanted to talk to my sister. I wanted to know more about her. She mentioned something about being a hero? I wonder if there's a story behind it...

Before I knew it my mother had arrived to pick me up and I said my goodbyes to everyone, including the bratty Damian Wayne.

My mother asked me about my day with the Wayne's and I told her, purposely leaving out my adventures with Damian. She, of course, questioned the gash on my forehead and swollen cheek. So I answered saying that I snuck out of the manor and got into a fight with some kid bullying someone. She believed me seeing as I tend to be a bit clumsy and apparently seem to be a magnet for trouble. Which has been proven multiple times in my school records. Nonetheless when we arrived home I took a shower, brushed my teeth, and dressed my wounds before heading to sleep.

A steady calm drenched the room when suddenly, "EMILY!" The peace was broken by none other than my lovely sister Jade. Of course due to the loud intrusion I instinctively jumped with a flinch. "Jade! What are you doing?!" I screamed back with a slight squeak in my voice. Jade merely laughed at my angered expression. "I'm just fucking with you Ems, calm down." That familiar phrase again I thought with a slight scoff. "What are you doing here again?" I asked with genuine curiosity. Jade smiled slightly and pulled me into a headlock.

"I missed my little sister of course! Look I get bored talking to this bag of bones all day, don't ya know?" Just as she finished that statement a large amount of bones appeared out of nowhere with a light green glow surrounding it.  Just as fast as it appeared the bones quickly reshaped into the form of a three headed dog. The frightening monster let out a loud growl as it crouched down to our heights. By this point I was engrossed in multiple emotions as I stood before the creature. A mix between fascination and fear arose along with curiosity that pulled me closer. "Well go on give them a pet. They look like big ole mean monsters, but deep down they're big ole softies that want some love.

Sure enough as I approached with my hand out the three headed dog gave a light sniff and immediately nuzzled into it. I could feel Jade's smirk as she walked up behind me to rub one of the dog's heads affectionately. "This little sweetheart here is named Cerberus, otherwise know as the guard dog of Hell. Ok well sort of. So this is roughly my representation of Cerberus, I have no idea if there is a real one out there. Still a lovely doggy." Jade laughed as she hugged Cerberus to the best of her ability.

"Say Jay...I have a question. So I know Cerberus is a three headed dog that shares one body, but they have their own personalities right? Three heads mean three brains and surely they have their own thoughts and feelings. Why not give them their own names? Or what about-?" Jade quickly hushed me and covered my mouth to muffle my questions. "Ems....you're overthinking this ma'am, I'm going to need you to stop. As for names we'll do Cer. Ber. Us. Deal shortie?" I rolled my eyes at the nickname but nodded my head in agreement. "Sure thing boss." I smirked with a small salute as I skipped past my sister to admire Cerberus.

"You're such a goofball..." I heard Jay's voice trail off. In sudden curiosity I turned my head towards my sister and asked her a question that had been on my mind for a while. "Jade...were you a superhero? Like Superman and Batman?" Jade spared me a small glance before sighing as she kicked her foot into the nonexistent ground. "Hmm what makes you ask that huh?" I rolled my eyes at her forgetfulness. "I quote, what kind of hero would I be if I couldn't save my baby sister, huh?" Jade paused for a moment in thought then snapped her fingers in realization. "You got me there Little E. To answer your question...yes I was. I would go out and help people and fight bad guys under the name Wraith. I wasn't well known seeing as I was still new to it and I was pretty young. I avoided the big dogs like Batman and Superman because i wanted to make a name for myself. Then one day I came home and no one was home so I called mom and found out you were in the hospital."

Jade sighed and with a wave of her hand a green light emitted and bones appeared forming a chair. Another chair of bones formed beside me. Suppressing my surprise I took a seat and listened intently to my sister. "You had been sick for weeks and you were only getting worse so mom and dad took you to the hospital to get you treated by the pros. Any small and insignificant improvement in your health we exaggerated times ten believing you were truly getting better. We were so desperate to have you back to your normal healthy and happy self that we desperately clung to any hope we could. I knew you weren't going to make it and you were getting tired of fighting the inevitable. In one last desperate attempt to save you, I used my powers to come into contact with the reaper that claimed you."

Jade finally looked back at me with a kind and loving smile. "Long story short I swapped places with you and with every day that went past my life was given to you. It was painful but I didn't care because I saved you and that's all I wanted. I wanted to give my little sister a second chance at life...and I did." A sudden rush of emotions overwhelmed me and I couldn't help the sudden flow of tears. I desperately pulled my sister into a tight hug. "I'm so sorry!" I choked out with guilt. Jade returned my hug with a laugh. "Don't be little E, it was my choice. Don't you dare be sorry. I love you."

After a few more minutes of me trying to recollect myself Jade finally pulled away from the hug. "Get up girl. It's time to get ready for the day, I'll catch ya later lil sis." With that the area around us faded into black and I felt my eyes flutter open. The light from my window was a bit blinding so I turned to my side and slowly sat up. I was back in my own room.
