Ch 5
11:50, 14 February 2020(Emily's POV)
The next day I awoke with dried tears covering my cheeks and a feeling of sadness. I wanted nothing more than to go back to sleep and continue talking to my older sister. Of course I knew no matter how hard I tried I wouldn't be able to find her right now so I got up and got ready. Afterwards I lazily dragged my feet downstairs to find my mom drinking her morning coffee. Routinely I already knew my father was still asleep upstairs and my mother would soon leave to work in another hour. "Morning Mom." I yawned as I jumped off the last step and nearly slipped. "Hey Emily don't slip and fall now." My mom chuckled to herself.
"Wow thanks for the warning mom, you really saved my life there." I rolled my eyes playfully as I made my way to the kitchen table and sat down with another tired yawn. "Emily it's too early for all this yawning ma'am, eat your breakfast." I gave a slight smile at my mom's comment and immediately began eating.
Afterwards my mom drove me to Wayne Manor as usual so I wouldn't be stuck at home by myself all day. "Your Dad and I will be back later tonight to pick you up, okay sweetheart?" I nodded my head with a smile and gave her a hug goodbye, "Bye, I love you." She returned my hug instantly and gave me a kiss on my head, "Love you too sweety." Shortly after my mom drove away and I made my way up the steps to the manor.
Right as I was about to knock on the door I stopped and glanced off to the side. I could've sworn I heard noises from near the garden. Instinctively, of course, I followed the noise to the back of the manor to find the boy from yesterday. He was jumping around left and right swinging his sword gracefully through the bushes and slicing the branches with ease. During my small trance I failed to notice that the green eyed boy was dashing towards me until I saw the sunlight glint off of his sword.
At the last second I went to dodge but unfortunately tripped over my own feet and fell flat on my butt with a grunt of pain. Immediately the tip of the kid's sword was pointing at my neck directly under my chin. "What are you doing here, intruder." His tone came off as harsh and uninviting. I couldn't help my nervous stutter that came out of my mouth, "I-I'm not an intruder! I was invited here by M-Mister Wayne. What about you huh?! Swinging your sword around and causing a mess?" The boy scoffed at me and turned to walk away.
This only annoyed me further so I quickly jumped to my feet and ran at him with my fist raised and ready to attack. The green eyed boy immediately turned and dodged the attack before sending a kick up towards my head. I knew I wasn't going to move out of the way in time so I concentrated on phasing through the attack and aimed at his exposed back. After successfully landing a hit I smirked in victory, but it was short lived. A growl sounded from in front of me and the boy kicked my legs out from under me causing me to hit the ground roughly and barely roll away from his fist. The two of us kept going until I clumsily tripped over one of the fallen branches and incidentally hit my head on ground. I slowly started to get back to my feet and hissed at the stinging feeling I felt on my head.
"Your head is bleeding." I heard from behind me. "What are you talking about...I feel fine." I muttered in annoyance, but still brought my hand up to the source of pain. Sure enough when I moved my hand back it was covered in a warm red substance. "I'm blaming this on you." I muttered with the same annoyed expression on my face. The said boy scoffed and glared at me with an equally annoyed face, "If anything you can blame your terrible sense of balance. I could have easily avoided such a small obstacle. I suppose for someone like you though it is far too difficult." By this point I wanted nothing more than to punch this kid across the face, however I restrained myself and walked into the manor holding my hand over my wound.
Upon entering the manor I was greeted by Alfred who immediately took me inside to treat my wound. Apparently the boy followed as well, I guess he had nothing better to do than annoy me. "That should do it Ms. Presley. I do advise you be more careful though, we wouldn't want to worry your parents." Alfred lightly chided the young girl. "I know I know, I'll be more careful." I answered. Alfred smiled slightly before giving my head a slight pat and wandering off to finish his duties. This of course left me alone with the boy I didn't know the name of.
"My name is Emily Presley....what's yours?" I muttered as I eyed the black haired green eyed boy. He narrowed his eyes at me, but answered nonetheless, "Damian Wayne." I nodded my head and sat in silence with him.
After another minute or two of silence, Damian silently began wandering off. "Hey! Where do you think you're going?" I called out to the grumpy boy. Damian merely glanced at me before speaking, "I'm going out." Once again he began walking away from me and towards the front door. I could've sworn Mr. Wayne said that Damian was to stay hidden in the manor. 'This kid is going to be a pain in the butt to deal with!'I thought to myself with an annoyed sigh as I quickly went to follow after the boy.
"Wait up Damian! I thought you were supposed to stay in the manor?" I questioned as I eventually fell into step with the said boy. "I don't take orders from the likes of you Presley." I couldn't help rolling my eyes at the bratty boy, but followed him nonetheless. "Whatever you pompous jerk. Where do you plan on going? You can't drive." Damian spared me a small glance before answering, "Oh? I assure you Presley, I can drive."
So for a long story short I ended up following Damian around for the day which landed us in Bruce's office. Damian then proceeded to snoop through Mr. Wayne's paperwork and files. The royal brat claimed it to be his birthright and Bruce walked in and was less than thrilled to find us. Of course we were scolded and sent back to the manor. After some time passed and night fell Bruce went off on his investigation as The Batman and Damian and I were left behind. This was short lived though seeing as Damian was far too difficult to manage and eventually decided to leave. I, being the gullible and curious person I am, eventually left the manor in my makeshift uniform to assist.
"I have the strangest feeling that we're going to be in a lot of trouble after all this. You think so? Yeah I think so too." I mumble to myself as I boredly glared at Damian's back. The said boy rolled his eyes at me before returning his attention to the skylight. We managed to track down our target so all we have to do is gather information and lea-
My thoughts were immediately interrupted by the sound of bullets penetrating the air. Of course the sudden noise spooked me a bit and triggered my power. Unable to control myself, my body phased through the glass and I fell through hitting the ground with a loud thud.
Damian couldn't help but roll his eyes at the girl but soon followed with a dramatic crash through the skylight. The bulky enemy, by this point, noticed the young girl that fell and aimed his gun at her. Before he could pull the trigger, Damian quickly jumped and kicked the gun out of the target's hand. Afterwards he turned his head and harshly called to the two women cowering in the room, "Leave harlots!"
After snapping out of my trance I slowly pushed myself up and jumped out of the way of the fight drawing near. Once the enemy equipped his metal claws he charged forward to attack. I quickly charged forward to attack the muscled criminal and went to sweep his feet. The move was successful, but I kicked Damian's legs. "What are you doing?!" He growled as he jumped back to his feet. I nervously rubbed the back of my head answering, "I didn't know he was going to move away that fast."
The three of us threw a few attacks back and forth but ultimately Damian and I were failing miserably at working together. In other words Damian occassionally would swing his sword aiming for the enemy but nearly slicing me. Of course I was no better at this as I nearly landed a few hits on him as well. Eventually I caught the recieving end of the enemy's fist and landed roughly on the ground leaving Damian alone with him. He managed to hit me square in the face so when I hit the ground everything was a bit hazy. I only managed to capture bits of the conversation relating to deathstroke before a loud shattering was heard.
Although my face still hurt from the injury I regained my composure and pulled myself up off the ground. By the time I clumsily stumbled towards the broken sliding door all I could see was Damian chasing the man on the streets down below.
