Threads of Fate

In the grassy place, as Alana and Giselle reminisced about their past, Alana suddenly remembered meeting Giselle's family for the first time.

Alana smiled, looking up at the sky. "Do you remember when I first met your family? I was so nervous."

Giselle laughed softly, "How could I forget? You were practically shaking."

Alana playfully nudged Giselle, "I wasn't that bad!"

Giselle smirked, "Okay, maybe not that bad, but you were definitely on edge."

Alana's expression softened as she thought back. "I wanted to make a good impression. Your family meant so much to you."

Giselle nodded, her eyes reflecting the memories. "They still do. But you handled it well, even with Gigi being... well, Gigi."

Alana chuckled, "Gigi was tough. I remember thinking, 'This girl is as cold as ice.'"

Giselle grinned, "Yeah, she doesn't warm up to people easily, especially when it comes to me. She's always been protective."

{FLASHBACK}

Alana stood at the entrance of Giselle's family home, nervously clutching a small gift bag. Giselle squeezed her hand reassuringly before they stepped inside.

Mr. and Mrs. Dela Peña greeted Alana warmly, their smiles putting her at ease. Mr. Dela Peña, a tall man with a calm demeanor, extended his hand. "Alana, it's a pleasure to finally meet you. Giselle has told us a lot about you."

Alana shook his hand, grateful for the warm reception. "It's a pleasure to meet you too, Mr. Dela Peña."

Mrs. Dela Peña, with her kind eyes and gentle smile, added, "We've heard so many good things. Please, make yourself at home."

As they moved into the living room, Alana noticed Gigi sitting on the couch, her expression unreadable. Gigi looked Alana up and down, her eyes cool and assessing.

"So, you're Alana," Gigi said, her tone neutral.

Alana nodded, offering a small smile. "Yes, it's nice to meet you, Gigi."

Gigi simply nodded, not offering much more. The silence that followed was tense, but Giselle quickly stepped in, introducing Alana to the rest of the family.

Later that evening, they all gathered around the dining table for dinner. The atmosphere was warm, the table set with an array of delicious dishes. Alana sat between Giselle and Mrs. Dela Peña, feeling a bit more at ease now that the initial introductions were over.

As they began to eat, Mr. Dela Peña engaged Alana in conversation. "So, Alana, Giselle mentioned that you're passionate about medicine. What inspired you to pursue that path?"

Alana, grateful for the friendly tone, responded, "I've always been fascinated by how the body works and how medicine can change lives. But what really solidified my decision was when a close family member fell ill. Seeing the impact that doctors had on their life made me want to be able to help others in the same way."

Mrs. Dela Peña smiled warmly. "That's admirable. It takes a lot of dedication and empathy to pursue a career in medicine. We're glad that Giselle has someone like you in her life."

Alana blushed slightly at the compliment, glancing at Giselle, who gave her a supportive smile. "Thank you, Mrs. Dela Peña. I feel lucky to have Giselle in my life too."

Mr. Dela Peña nodded approvingly. "It's clear that you have a strong sense of purpose, Alana. I'm sure you'll do great things in your field. And Giselle speaks very highly of you—how did you two meet?"

Alana recounted their first meeting, describing the surprise connection they found in each other. As she spoke, she noticed Gigi watching her intently, still reserved but seemingly more interested in the conversation.

As the dinner continued, the conversation flowed more freely. Mrs. Dela Peña asked Alana about her family, her interests outside of medicine, and how she and Giselle spent their time together. Alana answered each question with genuine warmth, feeling more comfortable as the evening went on.

By the end of the meal, even Gigi had softened slightly, making a few comments that indicated she was warming up to Alana, even if only a little.

As they moved back to the living room for dessert, Mr. Dela Peña said, "You've made a wonderful impression tonight, Alana. It's clear why Giselle cares for you so much."

Alana smiled, feeling a sense of relief and happiness. "Thank you, Mr. Dela Peña. It means a lot to me to have your approval."

{END FLASHBACK}

Back in the present, Alana laughed softly. "Gigi was definitely a challenge, but I think she came around eventually."

Giselle smiled warmly, "She did. She just needed time to see what I already knew—that you were someone special."

The two sat in comfortable silence for a moment, their thoughts drifting back to all the moments that had led them to where they were now.
