New discoveries

15:27, 30 June 2016

"Will? Can you call me when you get this? The boys and I," I pause. "we miss you. You've been gone for weeks... I really need to talk to you about something."

I decided it was time to tell William that David was back and Ziggy and him were getting on so well. The boys treated him as family now, not as their idol... They finally saw him like I saw him.

I put the phone down, every time I called it went to the answer phone. "Would it help-"

"No." I spit at Henry who had decided to pop down and see me again.

"Ros, if you call his work you can find out where he is!" Henry exclaims.

"I trust him."

"Do you?" Henry questions.

I look at the phone and see it staring back at me. This was killing me, where was my husband?! What was he doing all this time?!

"I can't..." I mutter with sobbing eyes.

The usual knock at the door sounds, I turn to it but Ziggy is already there opening the door.

"David!" Ziggy widely grins then gives David a hug.

"This is unexpected of you?" I mutter surprised at David, and Ziggy goes back upstairs to finish whatever homework he has left.

"Yes, I uh- I have some news." He stutters.

"As have I." I sigh.

"What's the matter my darling?" David says softly, but I can see Henry's strained eyes at the fact another man called me darling.

"Will hasn't called, and his phone is going into answer machine every time."

"Maybe he doesn't have signal. Darling," He lifts my chin with a face full of hope. "Don't think the worst, he wouldn't leave you here, his child is here."

"So is yours." I stab at him.

"Difference is though, Ros." Henry mutters. "David's here, Will isn't."

"I've told her to call William's work to see where he is!" Henry protests.

"Ros, maybe you should my darling..." David purrs. "It might stop the worry, if you knew where he was, you won't panic."

David was right I suppose... And what harm could it bring? After all, I was William's wife, I had every right to know where my husband was!

"Do you know the number?" Henry asks.

"Yeah, it's in my address book." I say pointing my finger to my handbag.

David picks the bag up and places it in front of me, politely he didn't even look inside, though I wouldn't have minded if he had.

I route around and eventually find the small pages rectangle, inside I flick to the back of the book and find the 11 digits needed for me to find out where my husband had disappeared off to.

I dialled each digit in carefully, making no mistake and began to here the ring... Once. Twice. Three times. Then...

"Good afternoon, Tyler's associations, Amanda speaking, how may I help you?" The woman speaks clearly.

"Hi there, my name is Rosalind Hester, I'm William Hester's wife." I mutter skittishly.

"Oh yes! Mrs Hester! How can I help you today?" Amanda says sweetly.

"Well- I uh- I just wondered if you could tell me where Will actually is?"

"Sorry?" She sounds confused.

"Will. William Hester. He's on a business trip? He's been going on them for some time now." I ask getting more worried.

"Right, I don't get told about the business trips so I'll just go and ask Mr Tyler himself! I'll just be a moment!" She says cheerfully.

It's silent. On the phone. In the house. Then...

"Mrs Hester?" Amanda says, with her voice crackled.

"Yes?"

"Mr Tyler said that your husband has booked off leave for several weeks... He said that William told him you two were going on a holiday to Greece..."

This still didn't make sense? "But, I'm not on holiday..." I stop and take a breath. "Can you tell me when he's due to be back at work."

"Let me have a look for you...." I hear the delicate taps of her keyboard trying to find the information I needed. "This weekend." She replied.

"You're sure?" I ask.

"That's what it says here." She assures me.

"Ok, well, thank you for your help Amanda." I say shaking.

"No worries, I just-" She sighs. "I just hope everything's ok..."

"Me too..." I breathe then hang up.

It takes less than a millisecond for Henry to pipe up.

"So? Where is he?"

"Not on a business trip." I say with spite.

"Where is he?" David repeats but much more calmly.

"Apparently," I breathe but then smile, almost finding this a funny joke. "me and him are on a romantic holiday in Greece together."

"What?" Henry growls. "That lying bast-"

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves." David boldly says. "We cannot accuse William of anything. He could be out there seeing family."

"We don't have family over there..." I tell the pair.

"There has to be a good reason though my darling." David tries to comfort me, but I can see nor feel no comfort.

"I can't-" I stutter and a tear falls down my face, another falls and soon they're streaming down.

"Come here." David whispers and pulls me into a hug. A weeping and wailing noise pierces the silence.

He can't possibly be cheating on me? He's so protective over me... So worried that I'd leave him... Why would he do this?

"Shh," David hushes me and strokes my hair, he sways me side to side to calm me down.

"Ros, everything will be ok." Henry says patting my back.

I continued to wail and continued to cry, but then...

"Mum?" Ziggy leans on the stair banister, his eyes, full of worry and his mouth hung open slightly.

I barely moved, I still clung onto David and let him continue to sway with me. I sniffled, wiped my tears and finally left David's grasps.

"Mum? What's the matter?" He says and puts his arms around my neck.

"I love you..." I mutter.

"I love you too mum." He stumbles slightly over his words.

The words hit me hard in the stomach, at least I knew my son loved me... Why hadn't Will spoke to me? The pain was killing me...

"Go on." I say letting go of my boy. "Go back upstairs now, dinner won't be long." Henry follows him up.

Ziggy nods and runs back upstairs and I turn back to David, it's just me and him standing in the hallway together. "What was your news?" I ask him wiping my red, puffed eyes.

"Oh," he remembers. "That doesn't matter anymore."

"Tell me." I demand.

"I-" he pauses. "I'm going to be living in Germany for awhile... I've been asked to write a new album by the end of the year..."

"Why can't you write it here?! In Brixton?!" I shout hurt. "You can't leave me here!"

"I'm not leaving you, your husband will be back, and he'll explain whys he's been away and everything will be-"

"No. You're leaving me... And you said you wouldn't!" I scream, puddles of tears flooding the floor beneath me.

David grabs my hand and pulls it slightly, I slap it away but then he grabs my face and kisses me firmly on my soft lips. Fire burns inside of me, my heart burst open, I knew it... I didn't want him to leave, because I was in love with him... I am in love with him...

"I love you..." He whispers, but one single tear falls and I can't bare to bring myself to say it back even though I want to....
