Chapter 35: Déjà vu

03:07, 16 August 2021

Lina's POV

One month later.

For the past month, Spencer has been staying at my apartment, helping me with everything. I'm still surprised when he told me he was my boyfriend back at the hospital. I mean, he is incredibly attractive—his perfect wavy hair, big puppy eyes, and a smile that makes my heart flutter every time.

Even though I still don't really know who he is, I can tell that he's a nice person. He writes down special memories we had together on cards and sticks them on the walls for me to read. My favourite one is when we apparently had our first kiss.

"Lina?" Spencer calls from the kitchen.

"Yeah?" I walk over to him where he's cooking—actually, more like burning—something in the pan.

"I'm making scrambled eggs. Do you want some?" He looks at the charred mess in the pan.

"Uh..." I don't want to hurt his feelings by saying no. "I-I'm not really that hungry." I give him an awkward smile.

"I'm not a very good cook." He laughs, taking his apron off and flinging it over his shoulder. He leans against the counter and crosses his arms, grinning at me.

God that is hot. I blush and clear my throat. "That's alright."

"If you want..." Spencer begins. "Would you like to, um, go out on a date with me tonight?"

"Oh, uh...." I look at him unsurely. Of course I would love to go on a date with all that handsomeness, but I've only technically known him for about a month. Even though according to him we've been dating for over a year.

"You know what, it's fine...." Spencer looks sad.

"No, let's go." I put a hesitant hand on his arm.

He brightens up again. "Oh, great! Where do you want to go?"

I stare at him. "Um...."

"Oh, that's right. You don't remember any places...." He scratches the back of his head. "How about the Korean place that I took you to on our first date?"

I nod, remembering that he wrote it on a card. "Yeah, sure."

"Wonderful!" He slowly leans closer to my face. "Is it okay if I...?"

"Mhm." I close my eyes as he gently kisses my forehead. When he does so, a memory flashes through my mind.

Flashback

"You ready to meet my mom?" Spencer asks nervously as he starts the car.

"Of course," I reply, smiling. "How do I look?" I'm wearing a white sweater with blue jeans, and the purple scarf that I picked yesterday.

Spencer gently kisses my forehead. "Beautiful."

Present

I gasp and pull back from Spencer, looking at him. "Spencer...."

"What is it?" he asks, "did I do something wrong?"

"N-no. I think I remembered something."

Spencer's eyes widens. "Really? What? What did you remember?"

"We were visiting your mom and I asked you how I looked..."

He nods excitedly. "Yeah! And then?"

"Y-y-you said I looked b-beautiful and you kissed my forehead," I stutter like a complete idiot.

"Oh, my God, you remember!" He wraps his arms around my frame and lifts me up, spinning me around the kitchen.

"Ahhh! Spencer!" I giggle with delight.

He sets me down and cups my cheek. "I just want to let you know that I love you, Lina."

"O-oh." My face turns red. Should I say it back? Before I can decide, Spencer whisks me away into the living room.

"Wanna watch a movie?" he asks.

"Sure. What do you want to watch?"

"I was thinking 'Titanic', since it was the first movie we watched together."

"That sounds great," I reply. As we watch the film, I get a sense of déjà vu—the warmth of Spencer... and my cat, Pumpkin, who's sitting on his lap. It all feels so familiar. But soon, the movie ends and it's time for us to get ready for our date.

"What are you going to wear?" Spencer asks, getting up from the couch to stretch.

"I'm not sure," I respond, walking into my bedroom to go through my closet. I rummage around, looking for something date-appropriate. I come across a white off shoulder top and a black skirt. I look at it curiously, it feels right so I put it on.

Just then Spencer knocks on my door. "Are you ready, darling— I mean Lina?"

I smile at him and blush. "It's fine, you can call me whatever you want."

He comes in. "Okay, my love." His mouth gapes a bit when he sees my outfit.

"What?" I raise an eyebrow.

"That was the outfit you wore when we had our first kiss." He looks at me shyly.

"Oh, no wonder this outfit felt so familiar." I give him a small smile. After I finish getting dressed, I go over to my jewelry box to find a necklace. I open it and see a small silver star necklace and I pick it up, holding it against the light.

"That was my gift to you for our 1-year anniversary," whispers Spencer as he comes up behind me.

I admire the sparkling crystals. "It's beautiful." I breathe softly. "Can you put it on for me?" I move in front of the mirror, lifting my hair up. Spencer nods and takes the necklace. As he puts it on for me, I get the sense of déjà vu again....

Flashback

"Here, I have something for you." Spencer pulls a small box out of his pocket and opens it, revealing a gorgeous star-shaped necklace. It's silver and has tiny crystals around it.

"You didn't need to," I gush. "All of this is already enough." I gesture to the beautiful setting.

"Well, if you don't like it..." Spencer teases, slowly closing the lid.

"Wait, no, I love it!" I blush.

He giggles. "Let me put it on for you."

I turn around and lift my hair up. He reaches his hand around my neck with the necklace, pulling the clasp to the back. I feel goosebumps down my back as he slowly trails his fingers along my neck.

After that, he leans down and kisses the base of my neck, the feel of his lips lingering there. I turn back around to face him, placing my hands on both sides of his face. Using my thumbs, I gently trace his jawline, loving the sharpness of it.

"Thank you, Spencer," I say with a huge smile.

Present

I blink a few times, the sweet memory still lingering in my mind. I turn around and look at Spencer. He puts a hand on my cheek and we lock eyes. I get déjà vu again, except this time, it's more intense. Suddenly, all my memories come flooding back to me and I gasp at the rush of it.

I remember all the major events in my life from when my birth mother left me at the fire station, to living in foster care. It fast forwards to when I meet my best friend Phoebe, up until the day we got abducted by the Flesh Carver. I then see flashes of my first day at the BAU when I met the whole team and developed feelings for Spencer.

From there, I see Spencer's face from every important moment I had with him. Our first dinner together, our first kisses, our first "I love yous"... even the argument we had over Benjamin during the bombing case.

I start to become dizzy from all the memories, so I grab onto Spencer's arm for support.

"Lina, are you alright?" Spencer asks, gripping my shoulders tight to stabilize me.

I stare into his deep hazel eyes and smile brightly. "I remember... I remember everything!"

His face breaks into a huge grin. Tears of happiness form around his eyes. "Oh, Lina...." He scoops me up in his arms and runs around the room like a crazy person.

I giggle as we fall onto my bed with me on top of him. "I love you, Spencer."

"I love you more, Lina," he whispers back.

"We'll see about that." I take his face in my hands and plant my lips on his.

"You know, people with amnesia tend to recall memories better with verbal cues, repetition of information, and routine," Spencer mumbles in between kisses.

"Spence, I can't wait to listen to you ramble all night. But for now, kiss me like you mean it," I tease.

"Mmm...." He smirks and turns, flipping me onto my back so he's on top of me now.

Before I can say anything else, he smashes his lips onto mine. Using his tongue, he slips it into my mouth to meet mine, and I let him explore inside my mouth. Breathing hard, I tangle my fingers into his hair, pressing his face closer to mine to deepen our kiss. Finally, we break apart, gasping for air.

"Wow," I pant, smiling at him.

"God, I've waited so long to do that." Spencer gently strokes my hair. He leans down and kisses the base of my neck.

I tilt my head back to give him full access to my neck. "Spence..." He gently bites and sucks on my skin, making me cry out in pleasure. "Oh!"

He pulls back and grins widely at me. "C'mon, let's go to dinner."

I didn't really want to leave yet but I sit up from the bed anyway. "Fine, but I'm going to finish kissing you when we get home." I grab his tie, pulling him towards me and pecking his lips.

After that, we leave my apartment and head to the restaurant. We order the same thing as we did the first time we came here, which was Bibimbap. I smile and listen to Spencer ramble on about statistics, math, or just anything and everything.

"Are you ready to go?" Spencer asks as he pulls out his wallet.

"Yeah," I respond, stopping his hand. "And I'm paying tonight."

"That's not happening." Spencer pulls his hand away from me with a grin.

"But—" I begin to protest.

"You can pay me back later tonight with lots and lots of kisses." He winks at me and I turn red.

"Oh, alright." I giggle.

Twenty minutes later, we're back at my apartment. I check my watch and see that it's 9:30 p.m.

Spencer flops down on the couch with a sigh. "Lina?"

"Yeah?" I go over and sit down in his lap.

He wraps his arms around me. "I'm sorry."

I cock my head in confusion. "Sorry for what?"

"For arguing with you back on the bombing case. If I hadn't gotten all jealous and mad at Nelson, he wouldn't have done anything to you." He frowns. "I feel like a terrible boyfriend sometimes... I couldn't even protect you."

My jaw drops. "Spencer, what the hell are you talking about? You're the best boyfriend anyone could ever ask for. I love you so much."

He looks at me, still unsure of himself. "But I—"

I shush him and cup his face with my hands. "Let me show you." I adjust myself so I'm straddling his lap. "I love how you make me blush every time you look at me," I say slowly, pecking him on the cheek. "I love your beautiful mind and how it contains all my favourite stories and poems that you read to me." I kiss his forehead. Then I brush my lips close to his ear and whisper softly, "I love how you listen to me when I've had a bad day." I trail down to his neck. "I love how good it feels when you kiss my neck," I mumble against his throat.

At this point, Spencer is as red as tomato, but I'm not done yet. I start to nibble on his neck, leaving love bites everywhere. Then I move up to his mouth. "And I love it when you tell me you love me...." Putting my hands at the back of his head, I plant my lips on his.

Spencer pulls me in closer and moves his hands down my back. "Mmm," he moans softly. This is our most passionate kiss yet, and I enjoy every bit of it. When we pull back, our lips and necks are all red from biting each other. "You're the most wonderful person in this world, Lina." He smiles brightly at me.

I rest my head on his chest and close my eyes. At this moment, life is perfect—just Spencer and I in each other's arms.
