16: Cross- Country
05:12, 11 June 2024Renee sat in her New York hotel room, scrolling through her phone. She was exhausted from a long day of press interviews and filming for the last season of "The Sex Lives of College Girls." She missed y/n and Logan terribly, but there was still work to be done. A video call from y/n popped up on her screen. Smiling, Renee quickly answered."Hi Chickennn!" she cooed as Logan's face filled the screen, his chubby cheeks and big smile melting her heart instantly"Say hi to Mama, Lo," y/n's voice came from behind the camera. "He's been waiting all day to see you.""Hi, baby boy!" Renee said, her face lighting up. "How's my little man doing?"Logan giggled, reaching out as if he could touch her through the screen. Renee's heart ached to hold him."He's good," y/n said, finally appearing on the screen, looking tired but happy. "We've just been hanging out. We miss you so much.""I miss you both too," Renee replied, her voice softening. "How's LA? Is everything okay there?""Yeah, everything's fine. The weather's been great, and we've been spending a lot of time at the park," y/n said, shifting the camera to show Logan playing with his toys on the living room floor. "He loves the swings now. Every time we go, he laughs so hard.""God, I wish I could be there," Renee said, a lump forming in her throat. "I hate being away from you guys.""We hate it too, but we're so proud of you," y/n said, her eyes shining with love. "You're almost done with the season, right?""Yeah, just a few more weeks," Renee said, trying to sound more upbeat. "Then I'll be home for good.""We can't wait," y/n said, blowing a kiss to the camera. "Logan can't wait to have his mama back.""Neither can I," Renee said, blowing a kiss back. "I love you both so much. I'll call you before bed, okay?""Okay, babe. Stay strong, and remember we're here waiting for you," y/n said, giving the camera one last smile before hanging up.Renee sighed as the call ended, her room suddenly feeling too quiet and too big. She threw herself onto the bed, staring at the ceiling. The loneliness of being away from her family was overwhelming, but she knew it was all worth it for them.
---
Back in Los Angeles, y/n put her phone down and turned to Logan, who was now happily chewing on one of his toys."Alright, little man," she said, picking him up. "Let's get you ready for bed."Logan babbled happily as y/n carried him to his nursery. She couldn't help but think about how different things were when Renee was home. The house felt emptier without her laughter and warmth. After changing Logan's diaper and putting him in his pajamas, y/n settled into the rocking chair, cradling him in her arms. She hummed a soft lullaby, thinking about Renee and how much she missed her. The days were long without her, but y/n found comfort in their nightly video calls and the knowledge that they'd be reunited soon."You're such a good boy, Logan," she whispered as he started to drift off to sleep. "Mama will be home soon, and we'll all be together again."She placed Logan in his crib, gently patting his back until he was sound asleep. As she watched him, y/n's mind wandered back to the day Renee left for New York. It had been tough saying goodbye, but they both knew it was necessary for her career.
---
A few days later, Renee was at the studio, filming a particularly emotional scene. As soon as the director called "cut," she pulled out her phone to check the time. She had a short break and wanted to call y/n and Logan.Finding a quiet corner, she dialed y/n's number. It rang a few times before y/n picked up."Hey, babe," y/n answered, sounding breathless. "Just got Logan down for his nap.""Perfect timing," Renee said with a smile. "How's everything going?""We're good. Just had a bit of a meltdown earlier because someone didn't want to eat his vegetables," y/n said, chuckling."Typical Logan," Renee laughed. "I'll have to have a word with him about that when I get back.""Yeah, good luck with that," y/n said, rolling her eyes. "How's the filming going?""Good, but exhausting," Renee admitted. "I can't wait for this season to be over. I just want to be home with you guys.""We can't wait either," y/n said softly. "But you're doing great, and we're so proud of you.""Thanks, babe," Renee said, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "I needed to hear that."They talked for a few more minutes before Renee had to get back to set. Saying goodbye was always hard, but knowing that they were just a phone call away made it a little easier.
---
The days continued to pass, each one bringing Renee closer to the end of filming and her return to LA. She threw herself into her work, using the thought of seeing y/n and Logan again as motivation to get through the long hours and demanding scenes. One evening, after a particularly grueling day, Renee returned to her hotel room to find a package waiting for her. It was from y/n. She eagerly opened it to find a small scrapbook filled with photos and notes from y/n and Logan.Tears filled her eyes as she flipped through the pages. There were pictures of Logan at the park, y/n's handwritten notes about their days, and little drawings that y/n had helped Logan make. It was a tangible reminder of the love waiting for her at home. She immediately called y/n to thank her."Hey, babe," y/n answered, her smile audible through the phone."Thank you so much for the scrapbook," Renee said, her voice thick with emotion. "It's perfect. I love it.""I thought it might help you feel a little closer to us," y/n said. "We miss you so much, and we can't wait for you to come home.""Me too," Renee said, clutching the scrapbook to her chest. "Just a little while longer."
---
The next day, things took a dramatic turn. Renee was on set, midway through filming a scene when her phone buzzed in her pocket. It was unusual for y/n to call during the day, so Renee felt a surge of anxiety. She quickly excused herself and answered the call."Hey, is everything okay?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady."Renee, I don't know what to do," y/n's voice was shaky and on the verge of tears. "Logan has a high fever, and he's been crying non-stop. I called the pediatrician, and they said to bring him in immediately."Renee's heart dropped. "Oh my god. Okay, listen, I'll get there as soon as I can. Just keep me updated, okay? You're doing great.""I'm so scared," y/n whispered."I know, baby. But you're strong. Logan needs you to be strong," Renee said, trying to project calmness. "I'll be on the first flight out."After hanging up, Renee rushed to find the director. "I have a family emergency. I need to leave right now," she said, her voice trembling with urgency.
---
The flight to Los Angeles felt like an eternity. Renee's mind raced with worry, and she could hardly sit still. As soon as the plane landed, she grabbed her bags and sprinted to the exit, desperate to get to y/n and Logan. She finally arrived at the hospital, her heart pounding as she rushed through the doors. She found y/n in the pediatric ward, holding Logan, who looked pale and lethargic."Renee!" y/n cried, relief washing over her face as she saw her. "He's been so sick. They think it's a bad infection."Renee hugged them both tightly, trying to hold back tears. "I'm here now. We'll get through this together."The next few hours were a blur of doctors, tests, and waiting. Logan was admitted for treatment, and Renee and y/n stayed by his side, holding his tiny hands and comforting him as best they could.
---
It was a long and harrowing night, but by morning, Logan's fever began to break. The doctor reassured them that he was responding well to the treatment and would be okay.Relief washed over Renee and y/n as they sat by Logan's bedside, exhausted but grateful."Thank you for coming," y/n said softly, leaning her head on Renee's shoulder. "I don't know what I would've done without you.""I'll always be here for you and Logan," Renee replied, kissing her forehead. "We're a family, and we'll always face everything together."As Logan slept peacefully, Renee looked at y/n and made a decision. "You know, I've been thinking a lot while I was away. I want to make it official. I want to adopt Logan."Y/n's eyes widened with surprise and happiness. "Really? You mean it?""Yes, I do," Renee said, her voice firm and loving. "He's our son, and I want it to be official. I want us to be a forever family."Tears of joy filled y/n's eyes as she hugged Renee tightly. "I love you so much.""I love you too," Renee said, feeling a sense of completeness wash over her. "We're going to be okay. All of us."As they watched over Logan, a sense of peace and unity enveloped them. The fear and uncertainty of the past day melted away, replaced by the strength of their bond and the promise of their future together.
---
The next few days were a whirlwind of recovery and paperwork. Logan steadily improved, his fever subsiding as his usual energetic self began to reemerge. Renee and y/n stayed by his side, cherishing every moment together. One afternoon, while Logan napped in his hospital crib, Renee and y/n sat in the quiet room, talking softly."Renee," y/n began, her eyes meeting Renee's with a mixture of love and determination, "are you sure about the adoption? It's a big step."Renee reached out, taking y/n's hand in hers. "I've never been more sure about anything in my life. Logan is my son in every way that matters, and I want to make it official. I want us to be a family, legally and emotionally."Tears welled up in y/n's eyes again, but this time they were tears of joy and relief. "I want that too. So much."Renee leaned in, kissing y/n gently. "Then let's do it. Let's start the process as soon as we're all back home."
---
The day finally came when Logan was discharged from the hospital. They arrived home, grateful to be back in their familiar space. Logan, now back to his cheerful self, crawled around exploring as if rediscovering his favorite spots."Welcome home, little man," Renee said, scooping him up and spinning him around. His giggles filled the room, a sound that was music to their ears.Y/n watched them with a smile, her heart full. "It's so good to have you back, Renee. Our family feels complete.""Because it is complete," Renee said, setting Logan down and pulling y/n into a hug. "We're going to make it official."True to their word, the next few weeks were filled with meetings, legal paperwork, and preparations for the adoption process. Renee and y/n navigated the complexities together, their love and commitment unwavering.
---
One morning, a few months later, they stood in the courthouse, nerves and excitement buzzing between them. Renee held Logan, who was dressed in a tiny suit, while y/n held her hand tightly. The judge smiled warmly at them. "It's clear that Logan is deeply loved and cherished by both of you. It is my honor to officially recognize this family. Congratulations."Cheers and applause erupted from their friends and family who had come to support them. Renee kissed Logan's cheek, tears streaming down her face. "We're officially a family, buddy."Y/n hugged them both, her heart overflowing. "We did it. We're a forever family."As they left the courthouse, the sun shining brightly overhead, Renee felt a profound sense of fulfillment. The journey had been long and challenging, but it had led them here—to a place of love, unity, and endless possibilities.
---
That evening, they celebrated at home with a small party. Logan, now officially their son, was the center of attention, his laughter filling the air as he played with his new toys.Renee and Y/n stood together, watching him with hearts full of love. "We've come so far," Y/n said, resting her head on Renee's shoulder. "And we're just getting started.""Absolutely," Renee agreed, wrapping her arm around Y/n. "No matter what comes our way, we'll face it together. As a family."As the night drew to a close, they tucked Logan into bed, whispering words of love and promises for the future. Then, they settled on the couch, wrapped in each other's arms, basking in the joy and peace of their newly solidified family."We did it," Renee whispered, her eyes meeting y/n's. "We're a family."Y/n smiled, her eyes shining with love. "Forever and always."And with that, they knew that no matter the distance, no matter the challenges, their love and their family would always bring them home.
