Chapter 9

KILLER QUEEN CHAPTER 9

I was born in space, I've never felt the sun on my face or breathed real air or floated in the water. None of us have. For three generations the ark has kept what's rest of the human race alive but now our home is dying and we are the last hope of mankind. One hundred prisoners sent on desperate mission to the ground, each of us is here because we broke the law but on the ground there is no law. All we have to do is survive, we will be tested by the earth, by the secrets it hides and most of all each other.

"My friends, this is a historic Unity day. Every year, we mark the moment our ancestors of the twelve stations joined to form the ark, but this is the last time we do so while aboard her. Next year...... On the ground." Jaha says as we watch the small screen that Monty and Raven built.

I could see Miller shaking his head beside me,"Right! After we did all the work. Someone shut him up."

"You shut up Miller!" Raven tells him," no ones forcing you to watch"

"Whhooo!" I turn to see Jasper coming toward us with a big metal container," Yeah!, Monty strikes again!. Hey! Call this batch Unity juice, Who's thirsty?" 

I raise an eyebrow at him while he runs down to us already filling people's cups with the alcoholic drink while people continue to cheer him on.

Not interested in their drink I walk over to a lonely Finn, "What? Don't want to celebrate Unity Day?" I say sarcastically.

Finn looks to me, "It's a lie."

I let out a light laugh, "You've got that right space boy."

He smiles lightly at the nickname while also nodding his head at my response. I then notice his eyes following something and look to where he's watching, Octavia running to make a quick escape while everyone's distracted by Monty's creation.

"If you try to follow her, try to not get killed."

He looks at me in question so I nod to where Octavia just left , he nods back, "Good luck Finn and happy Unity Day", I say mockingly to him.

He starts to walk away, "To our sons and daughters on earth listening to this message, we will see you soon," I look to the screen that Jaha is still on.

I grimace, "I certainly hope not", with that I walk away from the crowd agitated.

My legs dangle from the tree I'm sitting in as I watch the camp, night has fallen and practically everyone is drunk or getting drunk.

"Hey, the coms are still dead, they cut out during the pageant,"

I look down at Clark and Bellamy who are standing beneath me.

"Best Unity Day ever", Bellamy tells Clarke making her chuckle.

"Do you really think now is a good time to be having a party," Clarke asks him, "I mean the grounder is out there-,"

"Grounders Clarke," I say causing them to both look up at me. I hop down from the tree and stand next to them.

Bellamy nods his head, "By now, he's made it home. He's probably putting together a lynch mob. Relax, I got security covered," she nods , "Why don't you get a drink? You look like you could use one."

She smiles and looks around at everyone, "I could use more than one."

He smiles, "Then have more than one... Clarke, the exodus ship carrying your mother comes down here in two days. After that, the party's over. Have some fun while you still can, you deserve it."

She think for a moment, "Yeah.okay" she shrugs then walks off.

He then looks to me, "What about you? Mysterious Embry, you going to let up for a day?"

I turn to look at him with a blank face which makes him nod, "Guess not,"

We're silent for a moment just gazing out at nothing before I speak up, "You know, I'll have to leave when the exodus ship lands."

He looks over at me with a questionable face, "Come on Blake, your smart, you really think that I'll be pardoned", I lightly chuckle, "You don't even know who I am and your mind warns you not to trust me. They know who I am, you really think they'll let me wander free with out restraints. The only reason I'm free now is because they sent us down here to die....we weren't suppose to live,"

He's silent, thinking over what I had just said, "How old were you? When you were put in solitary?"

I look down, "It's more of.....how young was I... though I guess I was more lucky then my family."

He furrowed his eyebrows, normally people just refer to their mother or father the word 'family' is not often used," Family?"

I look over to him," You and Octavia aren't the only ones with a brother or sister, though yours are alive"

I look away and make my way down to my tent," Embry!"

I stop where I am looking over my shoulder, "You're wrong you know, I may not trust in the things you do or how you know the things you do..... But I do trust that you'll help keep us alive, so in a way I do trust you..... Even if you annoy the hell out of me sometimes." He chuckles at the end.

I smile, silently appreciating his words," Goodnight Bellamy"

"Goodnight Mystery"

Shaking my head I walk away.

I feel a hand on my shoulder which makes my eyes snap open. I grab the intruders arm and pull them over me to the other side of my make-shift bed, dagger ready at the throat.

"Wow ", I sigh looking down at Bellamy then over to the entrance of my tent where Jasper and Raven stand, "That was sick!", Jasper finish.

I look back down at Bellamy who's staring up at me then to the knife, "Relax Mystery!"

I shake my head again at the nickname and move away from him, allowing him to get off my bed.

"So...What is it?" I question once he's standing.

" Your coming with us, Finn set up a meeting with the grounders for Clarke and their leader to make a truce and she wanted me to bring back up in case things went south, we're it. Let go!"

Quickly processing the information I grab my bow and arrows along with some extra knives then follow them out of my tent. We hurry out of the gates and follow the trail Clark has left for us.

We stay hidden in the trees as we come up to the meeting place which is on an old worn bridge.

"There!" I point to where Finn,  Clarke  and Octavia were standing on the bridge.

"What Octavia doing here?" Jasper asks.

" O" I look over when Bellamy whispers.

" I guess we know how he got away" Raven says smirking.

I look to her, "It wasn't just her"

I could feel the three of them looking at me but I look back to the bridge in time to see her running to Lincoln who had appear from the other side of the bridge.... Along with...

" Talon?"

Bellamy, Jasper and Raven look to me again but I continue to watch him flank Lincoln.

"You know him", Bellamy grabs my arm.

I look down at his arm then back to him which causes him to let go, "We've meet",

Looking back to the bridge I see Clarke looking at them warily causing her to step back but Finn reaches out and grabs her hand. I look to Raven who is staring at the two with a hurt look on her face.

Thump thump     Thump thump

I quickly turn back to the bridge knowing what's coming.

"Get down" I whisper to Bellamy, Jasper and Raven.

We silently watch as grounders who are atop of horses approach the bridge, my eyes immediately latch onto the woman who's in lead.

"Shit!" I spat, It was her, I shot her. What did Talon call her..... Anya.

" What is it?", Bellamy questions me.

" I have a feeling she going to want to talk to me.." I tell them.

Raven's head whips away from Anya to me,"You know her too!"

" Stay here!" I start to get up and make my way towards the bridge.

Bellamy try's to grab me, "Embry!, Embry get your ass back here, shit!"

I walk carefully toward the bridge watching as Anya and Clarke meet in the middle but beforeClarke could speak  Anya starts, "You're Clarke?"

"Yes"

"I'm Anya", I see Anya look around,"Where is the warrior?" She demands, making Clarke confused not knowing who Anya was referring to.

I grab onto the side rail making it chime causing everyone to look over at me as I climbed onto the bridge.

"Embry?" Octavia questions.

I see Finn walk next to me, "Embry what are you doing here?"

I ignore them, not once taking my eyes from Anya, who in return is staring right back. I walk in powerful strides toward her and Clarke, I could hear someone go to follow behind me.

"Talon stop!" I hear Lincoln tell him, he must have grabbed Talon because I could no longer feel him walking behind me. Once I reach them, my hard gaze still on Anya.

She openly sizes me up, taking in my appearance and weapons as I do the same to her.

Once she's done she look me in the eyes, "You're their warrior?"

I ignore her pointless question, "How's the wound?", Her stare turn into a glare making my lips twitch upwards.

Clarke realising that we've had contact before quickly steps in to try and defuse the tension,"I think we got off to a rough start, But we want to find a way to live together in peace."

I watch Anya, "I understand. You started a war that you don't know how to end!"

I smile lightly at her," I wouldn't be so sure about that."

My response it met with another glare causing Clarke to cut in again," What? No. We didn't start anything. You attacked us for no reason,"

She looks back to Clarke looking more angry then before, "No reason? The missile you launched burned a village to the ground!.

Missiles?

I could already feel Clark looking at me wondering the same thing when it clicked, "The flares", The same look of recognition goes through her eyes when I said it.

"No! That was a signal meant for our families. We had no idea-"

"You're invaders. Your ship landed in our territory."

"We didn't know anyone was here. We thought the ground was uninhabited", Clarke try's to reason.

"You knew we were here when you sent an armed raiding party to capture one of us and torture him. These are all acts of war."

I chose here to speak up,"What of when you tried to attack me! Ambush me with your men," I smirk as I think back," but they ended up paying the price didn't they... as did you though not as severe," I step forward, "I'll save that for another time." My threat coming across clear as she changed her stance slightly becoming more rigid.

Clarke slowly puts her hand on my arm trying to lightly tug me back, which I respond with a small step back glaring at her so she removes her arm which she did.

Clarke looks back to Anya, "I see your point....That's why we need to put an end to all of this."

I watch Anya, still on edge, as she thinks about what Clarke says through, "Lincoln said there are more of you coming down,Warriors." She looks to me at that last word.

Clarke nods at this information, "The guard, yes. But also farmers, doctors, engineers. We can help each other, but not if we're at war."

Anya folds her arms, "Can you promise that these new arrivals won't attack us, that they'll respect the terms you and I agree on?" She questions.

"I promise I will do everything I can to convince them to honor the terms that we set."

"Why would I agree to an alliance that your people can break the moment they get here?"

I block their conversation out and look past them to Anya's guards who are atop of horses, noticing their weapons and the looks they share, the one on the right looks over his shoulder into the trees then back to his partner.

I follow where his eyes went and go rigid, turning to check the left side as well. My hand slowing inching its way to my bow.

"If you fire the first shot, those people coming down won't bother negotiating. Our technology... They will wipe you out."

"They wouldn't be the first to try", Anya says smugly.

"No....they'd be the last", I say glaring at her.

"Clarke run!", Jasper must have notice the grounders in the trees as well.

"Run!", He yells while coming out of the hiding spot shooting in the trees.

I turn back just in time to see Anya unsheathed a dagger going for Clarke,"Clarke move!" I yell while pushing her out the way, grabbing Anya armed hand I wasted no time delivering a swift jab to her throat, watching her cough and stagger backwards I quickly unsheathed my twin daggers watching her recover herself with a steady gaze.

"Embry!" Clarke from behind me yells over the multiple gun shots and yelling.

"Clarke! Go!" I yell sparing no glance.

Anya watches me, knife pointed outward while mine stay behind my back waiting for her to deliver the first strike which she does. She quickly try's to swipe at me but I block it with my right dagger and bring my left to cut her wrist causing her to retreat back and hiss. Growing angrier she flings her dagger fast toward me, me blocking it with my own just in time as she's already got her unsheathed sword coming staring towards my head. I block it, putting my daggers into an x to catch her sword pushing back against her. She growls and try's to push against me more and with her focus fully on pushing against me I smile at her and deliver a swift hard kick to her stomach making her fly backwards.

"Lincoln!" I hear Octavia shout.

Seeing Anya still on the floor I turn to see an arrow in Lincoln's shoulder, Octavia and Talon seeing if he's okay and Finn guiding Clarke of the bridge both crouching the avoid getting hit.

"Embry! Let's go!", Bellamy yells out.

I look back to Anya who is being helped up by one her guards and take this moment to quickly run towards the others off the bridge.

"Get her! Get the warrior!" Anya shouts.

I hear the all to familiar sound of and arrow whizzing through the air and quickly drop and roll off the side of the bridge, landing on the rocky riverbed with a thud.

Hands grab at my arms and haul me up,"Lets go Mystery!", knowing that it's Bellamy I allow him to pull me up and start to drag me in the direction the others were running in though I look back up at the bridge and see Talon checking Lincoln's wound before I look away and continue running along side Bellamy.

We quickly catch up to the others and continue running through the now dark sky all the way back to camp, stoping just outside, everyone breathing heavily.

I watch as Bellamy looks over at Finn," You got something to say?"

"Yeah. I told you no guns!" He yelled at Clarke.

Looking just as angry Clarke fires back," I told you we couldn't trust the grounders. I was right!"

"Why didn't you tell me what you were up to?" Raven buts in just as angry.

Finn turns to her," I tried, but you were too busy making bullets for you guns."

"You're lucky she brought that!," Bellamy fires at him,"They came there to kill you, Finn!"

"You don't know that." He yells pointing to Jasper, "Jasper fired the first shot!"

Octavia shakes her head, "You ruined everything." She said storming off.

Jasper looking completely shocked and angry yells back at her," I saved you!" He shakes his head, "Your welcome", with that he walks away both sad and angry.

"Well, if we weren't at war already, we sure as hell are now." Finn looks at us still angry, "You didn't have to trust the grounders. You just had to trust me." With that Finn storms off as well, Raven following.

I look at Clarke, "Don't listen to him Clarke"

"Why?" She questions.

I sigh,"Because the whole time you were talking to her,  her hand kept getting closer and closer to her knife, she was there to kill you. Why do you think she asked where I was, she wanted to know if I'd get in the way."

She nods looking defeated.

"Like I said, best Unity Day ever." Bellamy says to us

Bang

I turn and look up at the sky seeing a bright light plummeting down.

"The exodus ship? Your mums early." Bellamy states.

Clarke lets out a happy laugh but I notice something.

Too fast.

"Clarke.....no parachute"

We watch as it continues to fall behind the mountains followed by an explosion that's lights up the sky. I look to see a heartbroken Clarke who falls to the ground crying over the death of her mother.
