Chapter 042

In their cell, Gabi Braun feigns illness so Falco Grice's shouts of concern are able to draw in a Garrison guard to look at her. When the guard approaches, Gabi suddenly attacks him, beating his head with a cloth-wrapped brick. Falco expresses doubts about their escape, but Gabi believes that staying will result in them being killed.

Falco introduces them to the Braus family as siblings Ben and Mia and offers to work if the family will let them stay for a few days. Artur Braus welcomes them and says there is no need for them to bow. They can stay as long as they like and he invites them to breakfast.

They sit down and Lisa Braus tries to pat Gabi on the head, only for Gabi to push her arm away in horror. Though the other children at the table are shocked, Lisa apologizes, saying that Gabi must have been through a lot. Falco apologizes as well and digs into his breakfast in an attempt to break the tension. He tries to get Gabi to eat as well, and she reluctantly takes a bite.

I took her to the cell.

"Violet I'm glad to see you better"

"Out of everyone I didn't think it would be you. Emily"

"Have you ever been in a cell like this too"

"No"

"I do not regret what I did at all"

"You'll be here longer if you keep that up."

I look at the girl. She truly change. Everyone had an opinion on their own. To think she was the girl who I save from getting hit when Rod. She had join right away. She is just 15.

"Violet I'm still the same person you'll save that day"

I walk closer to the cell.

"Emily you may be the same person. But I am no longer. I will stop Eren from the rumbling. So please stop this madness. We don't want to have to fight each other right"

I turn lock the cell and walk back upstairs.

"I wanted to fight alongside you."

I didn't turn back.

When Falco asks why she helped them, Kaya takes them to the village that used to be her home. Four years ago the villagers fled the Titans, leaving behind her mom, who could not run. She shows Gabi and Falco where she sat and listened to her mom being eaten alive. Kaya knows that the outside world considers the people of the island "devils," but does not understand why they are hated so much. She asks the two of them what her mom did to deserve that.

Falco pov

"What did we do to deserve that"

"The two girls that came that day to help me. They risk their life's for me. One off to fight while the other comforting me in her way."

"Where are they now the girls"

"They had become great soldiers. They are at the top"

I look at Kaya. Are they really not bad like we were told they were.

"She only had two knife and an axe. She killed the titan. That killed my mother that day. She told me to keep going. She left me in her friend arms. So we could escape without hesitant"

"we are bad people."

Kaya tells them that her family has been invited to a restaurant where a Marleyan works. If they come along, they might be able to find a way home. When Gabi asks why she would help them, she says she wants to become a person like that girl.

I stood in the dark listening to their conversation. Annie I wanted to talk to you but I guess I can't. To think Armin truly cares about you. I bet you feel the same as well.

I walked out. I should go to headquarters before the mod becomes bigger. I put the knife inside my boot. I can squeeze a small pistol here. Since the green coat fit me big. You can't notice at all.

I walk to the brick stairs.

It felt lonely now. It used to be everyone here. I look at the window. The letters were still engraved here.

"Hungry"

It was her writing.

It was boring to wait for me. No one asks you to wait for me. You could have just gone to lunch. Why did you stay here?

"Ahh Violet there you are. The front is crowded"

I turn to see Armin and Mikasa.

"I came early"

"I heard Hange all over the place"

We were all seated. Commander Zachary's office is where we were.

"Yeah I guess something needed checking out"

Armin replied

"Indeed and I permitted a volunteer to go along." He looks down on us.

"I can't allow you three to meet Eren"

"Why not" I look at Mikasa, she seems confused.

"We believe Eren is being manipulated by Zeke"

I don't think he is. I look down at my hands. Let's leave this hope to them. I look down to see the scar.

They were going to listing through the door. No, they can't. I pull them back and the loud bang came out. A body spatted out.

Zachary is dead.

"Are you guys okay"

"We are fine Violet but are you."

"Yeah I'm fine"

A brief was  held for his death. I have to get used to these weapons in my boots. They were a bit uncomfortable but I have to. Or else who knows.

At the briefing following Zachary's death, Roeg concludes a bomb was placed in the special chair that was delivered to the premier and the culprit is unknown. Hange says that the volunteers are on house arrest, barring Onyankopan who was with them, clearing the group as suspects.Armin brings up the Scout recruits he and Mikasa saw at headquarters, recalling that Zachary had said recruits brought the chair. Nile Dawk adds that he heard that it was the Scouts that leaked the information about Eren's arrest.

The door to the meeting room flies open as an MP reports that Eren has escaped from his cell. Nile mobilizes the Military Police to go find him as soon as possible.

With Zachary's death, Armin says that Pyxis is the only one who can lead them. He asks what they should do. After a moment's thought, Pyxis lifts his hands and suggests surrendering to Eren. He elaborates, saying that their hands are tied while they have potential traitors in the military. Flushing them out would be costly and they do not have the time.

He does not plan for complete submission, but to use Zeke's location to negotiate with the Jaegerists. In order for this to work, they need to overlook Zachary's murder, and he does not think Zachary would mind.

"I don't want to leave. This is our home so please accept that"

"I agree with Mikasa. Yes, we understand how this island means to you."

Horrified, Nicolo asks if they killed a female soldier. Falco recognizes the significance of the question, but before he can stop her, Gabi excitedly tells Nicolo that she did. Realizing Sasha's killer is in front of him, Nicolo grabs the bottle of wine and attacks her. Falco pushes her out of the way and the bottle shatters over his head. Shaken, Gabi tries to rouse him, but Falco does not respond to him.
