You have me

13:09, 12 August 2024

The journey to the new safe house was shrouded in tense silence. The black SUV cut through the city's underbelly like a knife, moving through darkened streets and hidden alleyways. Jisung sat quietly, his hand still entwined with Minho's, as the city lights blurred past them. The weight of the night's events pressed down on him, but he found solace in the warmth of Minho's touch, the solid presence beside him.

When they finally pulled up to the new safe house—a nondescript building in a forgotten part of town—Jisung could feel the exhaustion settling in, the adrenaline from the earlier attack fading away. The safe house wasn't as large or as well-furnished as the last one, but it was secure, and that was all that mattered.

Minho led him inside, his hand never leaving Jisung's. The other members of the organization were already inside, moving with practiced efficiency as they set up their new base of operations. Despite the urgency of their work, Jisung noticed the brief glances they shot in his direction—glances filled with curiosity, respect, and something else he couldn't quite place.

Jisung didn't want to think about what those looks meant. He was tired, both physically and emotionally, and all he wanted was a moment to breathe, to process everything that had happened.

As if sensing his thoughts, Minho squeezed his hand gently. "Come on," he murmured, guiding Jisung toward a quiet corner of the building. "Let's get you settled."

They found a small room at the back of the house, away from the noise and activity. It was sparsely furnished, with only a bed and a chair, but it was private. Jisung sank onto the edge of the bed, feeling the tension in his body begin to unwind, though his mind was still racing.

Minho stood in front of him, watching him closely. "Are you okay?" he asked softly, his voice laced with concern.

Jisung nodded, though the words felt hollow. "I'm fine," he replied, forcing a smile. "Just... a lot to take in."

Minho sat down beside him, the mattress dipping under his weight. "I know," he said quietly, his hand resting on Jisung's knee. "But you did good tonight. You stayed calm, followed orders. That's more than some people manage in a situation like this."

"I couldn't have done it without you," Jisung admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know how you do it, Minho. How you stay so composed, so... in control."

Minho chuckled softly, though there was a sadness in his eyes. "It comes with the territory," he said. "You learn to compartmentalize, to focus on what needs to be done. There's no room for fear or doubt. Not if you want to survive."

Jisung looked down at his hands, his fingers still trembling slightly from the residual adrenaline. "I want to be strong, like you," he confessed, his voice trembling with emotion. "But I'm scared, Minho. I'm scared of what's going to happen next, of what I might have to do."

Minho reached out, cupping Jisung's face in his hands, tilting his head up so their eyes met. "You don't have to be like me," he said firmly, his gaze unwavering. "You're strong in your own way, Jisung. You've already survived so much. And you're not alone in this. You have me. You have all of us."

Jisung leaned into the touch, his eyes stinging with unshed tears. "But what if it's not enough?" he whispered, his voice cracking. "What if I can't handle it?"

Minho's expression softened, and he pressed a gentle kiss to Jisung's forehead. "Then I'll be there to pick you up," he murmured against his skin. "I'll be there to fight beside you, to protect you. You don't have to face this alone."

The tears that Jisung had been holding back finally spilled over, and he let out a shuddering breath as he buried his face in Minho's chest. Minho held him tightly, his hand running soothingly up and down Jisung's back as he let the emotions flow freely.

"I'm so tired, Minho," Jisung admitted, his voice muffled against Minho's shirt. "I'm tired of running, of being afraid."

"I know," Minho replied, his voice thick with emotion. "But you're not running anymore. You're here, with me. And we'll figure this out together, I promise."

They stayed like that for a long time, wrapped in each other's arms as the world outside continued to turn. Jisung's tears eventually dried, leaving him feeling drained but oddly lighter, as if a weight he hadn't even realized he was carrying had been lifted.

When Jisung finally pulled back, Minho's eyes were full of understanding, of something deeper that Jisung couldn't quite name. He reached up, brushing a stray tear from Jisung's cheek with his thumb.

"You should rest," Minho said softly, his voice tender. "You've been through enough for one night."

Jisung nodded, feeling the exhaustion pull at him like a tide. "Will you stay with me?" he asked, his voice small and vulnerable.

Minho's gaze softened, and he gave a small nod. "Of course," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm not going anywhere."

Jisung lay down on the bed, the sheets cool against his skin. Minho stretched out beside him, pulling the blanket over them both. The bed was narrow, forcing them to lie close together, but neither of them minded. If anything, the closeness was comforting, a reminder that they weren't alone in this.

As Jisung's eyes began to flutter shut, he felt Minho's hand slip into his, their fingers entwining beneath the blanket. The gesture was simple, but it spoke volumes—of trust, of comfort, of a bond that was growing stronger with each passing day.

"Sleep," Minho murmured, his voice a soothing lullaby. "I'll keep watch."

And for the first time in what felt like forever, Jisung let himself believe that everything would be okay. That they would find a way through this, together. With Minho by his side, the fear that had once consumed him began to fade, replaced by something else—something stronger.

As he drifted off to sleep, Jisung held onto that feeling, letting it carry him into the darkness. Because no matter what challenges lay ahead, he knew he wouldn't face them alone. And for now, that was enough.
