Chapter 6

10:47, 15 June 2022

Daniel held onto DG tightly as his hair was whisked in the crisp night air. He had never been on a motorcycle before and the feeling he got was surreal. Mostly because he felt the safest he's ever been while he gripped onto the person whom he'd only met a few hours ago. He also felt free. Almost like he had his eyes closed on a swing, nerve-wracking yet enjoyable.

He watched as DG's hair swayed in the wind with the muffled sound of the late-night traffic. It seemed as if the city was now becoming alive again. The workers who turned in early soon turned into night dwellers looking for some fun or late-night shopping. Daniel was amazed. He'd never come to this side of town before as he never had the money but, that changed for him.

He smiled to himself as he subconsciously leaned his head on DG's back. This night was one of the best nights Daniel's ever had. He found himself being drawn into the weird events instead of being opposed to them. It's the first time he felt the need to be selfish, even if it was going to be a one-time thing. He was especially drawn to this gorgeous pink-haired man and found himself wanting to be with him like this all night.

As Daniel allowed himself to get lost in his thoughts of freedom, he didn't feel DG pull to a stop by the location of the party Vin was at.

"Hey, we're here, you can let go now," DG said, his words laced with indifference as he shoved Daniel's arms off of him. Daniel snapped back to reality as he felt a once warm body leave his vicinity and step down on the sidewalk.

"Oh sorry," Daniel said as he slipped of off the beautiful piece of machinery.

DG handed Daniel his suit before grabbing his own. "C'mon let's go change in the bathroom this time."

Daniel let out a light laugh as he followed DG into the building. Thankfully, the bathrooms were to the right as soon as they walked in. The two re-emerged in identical suits that Daniel swore he wouldn't get dirty to spare himself of seeing the dry cleaning bill, and made their way to the main hall.

Daniel first realized the timer on the projector had stopped as soon as he laid his eyes on it. That's when he noticed a very antsy Vin Jin standing by a table covered with small plates of food and what Daniel assumed was champagne. Vins nerves only seemed to calm once he saw the timer on the board stop. He calmly scanned the area before his eyes caught Daniel standing at the entrance awkwardly.

Daniel quickly averted his attention now focusing on DG who he couldn't find. He was beginning to regret everything that went on in his mind a few minutes prior as he noticed Vin make his way way over to him.

"About time you showed up. You almost had me there," Vin smirked and shoved his phone in Daniel's face. "Let's settle this, what can I do to prove that I'm better than this fucker?" Vin turned his attention to the many comments flooding the screen, an echo coming from the screen that had previously showed the counter. It was now streaming Vins live and showing the many suggestions. He nodded at some of them until a challenge came in.

Cross over to the building next to you from the 7th story window.Offer: 38,723,100 won (30,000 USD)

Vin's face seemed to drop a bit but excepted the challenge either way before hearing the voice of a women, presumably a party goer.

"That's my suite! I'll take you there!"

Vin and everyone else followed the women as she lead them like a pack of ducks up the stairs and to her suite. Daniel still had no sight of pink hair. He was beginning to worry that DG had left him there.

Once the women's suite was overtaken by teens and new adults alike, she opened a window that was closest to the neighboring building who had opened their window at the same time.

Are they Watchers? Daniel thought as he saw them extend a ladder to the women. She grabbed it and placed it on her window sill while shouting over to the people on the other side.

Has this happened before? They seemed prepared for this.

Daniel could see the hesitancy in Vin as he slowly climbed out of the window and balanced himself on the thin metal steps of the ladder. Vin handed his phone to the lady as everyone else either looked on with their phones or stuck their heads out of nearby windows for a front row view.

Daniel had to admit, he was a little mad at Vin for constantly annoying him but, he'd never voice that out of concern for Vins' feelings. Yet, something in Daniel wanted to prove Vin wrong and show him that he was better than him.

Daniel looked out of the window that had the ladder placed firmly, held by multiple people so it wouldn't fall out, and watched Vin intensely. As much as he wanted to prove Vin wrong, Daniel hoped Vin would be okay.

Vin took a deep breath and pushed his sunglasses up the bridge of his nose before moving his left foot onto the next step. Vin leaned slightly on his left foot as if to make sure it was planted. Almost like he wasn't sure.

Can Vin see with those glasses on?

Daniel looked around to see the only lights were from the two rooms, not nearly enough to light the darkness that surrounded the middle of the ladder, and a fall that can easily make a person fumble. It was too dark to do this with sunglasses that Vin had custom tinted. Especially if they were seven shades too dark when it was light out. Daniel remembered a conversation that he had heard between Vin and Mary a few days before he became a Player.

"Vin, you can't keep doing challenges like that if you have trouble seeing anything with these glasses on in broad daylight! You can get seriously hurt," Mary shouted at Vin during their lunch period.

"I'll be fine M, it just takes some getting used to, damn!" Vin snapped back at the blonde only to be met with a look of annoyance. "Fine, I'll be careful."

Daniel's face went pale.

How dark is it for Vin right now?

"Vin! Take off your sunglasses," Daniel shouted at Vin.

Vin barely looked back before shouting, "Fuck off Park, I know what I'm doing!"

"No Vin, take them off!"

"Shut up!"

"Vin!"

Vin took another step with his right foot and  swayed making Daniel's heart stop before Vin steadied himself once again. It was then that Daniel noticed the cheers and pushy words from everybody there.

Why are they condoning this?

Vin took a few more steps, too quick for Daniel's liking. Vin smiled to himself, reassuringly. He took another step.

Daniel's heart dropped as he heard the noise against the ladder. Everyone kept pushing for Vin to continue. That's when it happened.

Vin reached the area of the ladder with low light. He tried to take a step but, due to his lack of sight, his foot fell through the gap and Vins' body came down fast. He managed to stop himself by catching his fall on the supporting rails. Vin leaned his body forward to a crawl as he was now visibly sweating.

"It says you have to stand up or you'll bail!"

Vin paused at the words said and seemed stuck as he tried to stand back up. Once he stood up, he took another step. Vin was getting closer to the other side before his frame started to sway again. Daniel wasn't sure how much more of this he could take.

Vin picked up his right foot before feeling a tug at his left. He couldn't tell what it was. He looked down and saw black. For the first time, Vin seemed to be scared.

Daniel noticed Vin's halt and leaned his body out of the window, careful to not disturb the ladder, and looked at what Vin was waiting for. Daniel was about to pass out from his own heartbeat as he saw Vins' left foot stuck in-between the middle of the ladder. One metal bar onto of his foot and then the bottom bar for support.

Daniels' breath hitched in his throat as he tried to voice Vins' problem. Vin tugged his foot again only to be yanked back harder. He fell through again not being able to react quick enough and felt his glasses fall off of his face falling to ground with the faintest sound of impact.

Vin lied there, staring at the ground. His right leg swaying gently through a gap in the ladder and his left leg twisted. It looked broken.

Did he pass out?

Daniel now had one leg out of the window and on the ladder, ready to help Vin before he shouted, "Bail! I bail!"

Everyone went quiet as Vin was now disqualified. The first person to bail out of a challenge was Vin Jin.

All Daniel could hear was the uneven pants of Vins' breath. A chime could be heard on Daniel phone. He pulled it out as everyone else switched to watch Daniel's live, losing interest in Vin as his name disappeared from the number 3 spot on the leader board.

Finish Vin's challenge.Offer: 38,723,100 won (30,000 USD)
