Chapter twenty six

21:09, 18 September 2016

Rosa's POV

I wake up and and realise I was in my bed. I walk into the kitchen and find a note on the worktop.

Rosa, please take your meds x See you at work. Connor xx

I put the note down and make myself some coffee and breakfast. I put my coffee in my starbucks travel mug, eat my breakfast and head to work.

Resse's POV

It's my first shift as a resident. I turned down pathology as working with the patients really gets to you. My mentor is Rosa so when she walks out of the doctor's lounge I walk up to her.

'Dr Sánchez?' I say.

'Reese? I thought you were in pathology.' I give her a look to say you know I declined pathology. 'Crap. Sorry. I completely forgot.''

'That's OK.' I tell her. 'When you were a med student did you always want to be a trauma surgeon?'

'No, I wanted to go into paediatrics; the ED gets to some people. For some med students it's what they want to do. For others they can't handle the gory things about it.'

'Dr Sánchez, incoming trauma.' Maggie shouts over to us.

'On it.' I shout back. Rosa runs over to the door and looks over at me. 'Dr Reese?' I realise I'm doing trauma and run over. I give her a sorry looks but she comforts me. 'You'll get used to it.' We see the ambulance pull up ouside and the paramedics run in with a patient on a guerney.

'What do we got?' I order.

'75 year old male. Involved in a high speed RTC. Heart rate 95, BP 110/85, GCS of 3 and intubated at scene.' The P.I.C tells us. Once we are in the trauma bay we lift the patient onto the bed.

'Any other casualties en route?' Dr Sánchez asks.

'No. Other casualties are being taken to Lake Shore.' The other paramedic says. We nod and they leave. I blood tests and CTs and X-rays. Rosa looks at me and motions for me to breathe. I take a deep breathe and she puts her thumbs up.

'Alert ICU that we have a potential patient.' Dr Sánchez tells a nurse. She's about to walk out when April approaches her.

'Ms Goodwin would like to see you in her office.' I overhear.
