𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞

ALANNA'S POV

It had now been an hour and darkness was starting to creep through the sky so me and Katie made our way to the car park just off the high street to wait to be picked up .

" How long is your mum going to be " Katie says pulling her blazer tighter around her body as the evening breeze picked up .

" Hold on let me check " I say . I wasn't really sure what my plan was when Katie found out that it wasn't actually my mum coming to pick us up but I was just going to cover that when it actually came to it .

I pulled my phone out my pocket and pretended to text my mum but instead actually texting my brother. He sent my voice note so me thinking that my volume is quiet I play it but ofcourse it was just my luck that my volume was at full meaning that Katie could hear everything.' yo little sis i'll come get you now i'll be 15 minutes tops ' Jayden's voice played through my phone .

" What " Katie shouts looking at me

" it's fine " I say trying to reassure her but I don't think it was doing anything.

" no it's not fine " Katie shouts back

" it will just be my brother , maybe some of his friends but it's calm trust me " I reply but Katie was still having none of it .

Without saying anything she just walks off to the other side of the car park , leaving me alone in the darkness . I looked at my brothers location and saw that he was still  about ten minutes away so I decided to go after Katie .  Just as I looked in the direction that she ran off into I heard a scream . It was the voice of Katie screaming for help . And that was when I knew something was wrong .  I ran across the car park towards her voice , grateful that it was late and there was no actual cars driving around because right now I wasn't really focusing on anything else . All of a sudden the screaming stopped and there was silence .

The first person I saw wasn't Katie but someone else I was familiar with .

" Jamie Miller " I say , my voice filled with confusion .

" Al-anna " Jamie replies his voice clearly shaky and scared

" Where's Katie " I say looking around but there was no sight of her . That's when my eyes trailed down to the the blood trial that lead off of his shoe , it could of been mistaken for red paint but just from the way that Katie screamed , I was certain that those red splotches were infact from blood .

" What have you done to Katie " I scream louder .

Jamie opens his mouth , about to say something but I don't think he could find any words to describe it . That's when I noticed a strand of Katie's hair on the floor behind him . I reached out and placed both hands on his shoulders , then giving him a firm shove backwards . I wouldn't say that it was violent but it was definitely enough to startle him and get him out of the way and look down at the ground .

At first , I didn't understand what I was looking at . It didn't seem real . Just a shape on the ground , oddly still, twisted in a way no living thing should be. Her body just laid there still , one arm stretched out like she has reached for something that was never found . Her clothes soaked with dark stains . Skin pale , almost bluish . Just looking at her caused my breath to catch in my throat . I took a step back . The birds didn't sing , and I swear even the trees seemed to lean away from the scene .

I was in shock . I didn't scream . I couldn't , in the moment my voice just vanished . All I could do was stare , heart hammering , as the weight of what I was seeing finally sunk in . That's when the reality actually came to me , I was stood in front of my best friends dead body and her murder stood beside me .

" Jamie , I swear to god if you tell anyone about me being here tonight you will be dead " I say with no emotion in my voice whilst my arms were gripped firmly onto the collar of his shirt .

" I-I won't - I promise " Jamie stammers out , his breathing starting to become heavier .

I violently push his back again , releasing my grip as I hear the engine of a car driving into the car park . I have one last look at Jamie before making my way over to the familiar black BMW. I watch as my brother climbs out of the passenger seat , pulling me into a tight hug . I noticed that he towered over me a lot more than I remember.

We pull out of the hug and my attention immediately went back to Jamie stood across the car park . From where we were stood you could no longer see Katie , only Jamie who was staring at me with locked eye contacts with me . I could see the fear in his eyes and I wasn't sure wether it was because my brother and his friends had just come and pick me up ( and he had definitely heard something about him and everyone in the school knew my brother too some extent ) or the fact he had just murdered someone .

" Who was that staring over , someone you know " My brother questioned from the front of the car .

" Just someone in my year , no one important " I say casually like he hadn't just murdered my best friend .

" tell me if he does something and i'll sort him out , yeah " My brother asks , looking at me through the mirror

" Yeah " I say before resting my head on the window and watching the world go past .

JAMIE'S POV

I watched on as Alanna climbed into the car , her brother Jayden stood outside a little bit longer , his eyes specifically lingering on mine . Even without saying anything I could sense his anger , it showed through his eyes , through his facial expressions and i'm not going to lie it was terrifying.

I had once last glance at the mess I had created before my way back home quickly , my mind was racing at a hundred miles an hour . The night was not supposed to end like this , I think if someone had of told me this is how my day was going to be ending I think I would of laughed in there face .

I didn't get home till around ten pm that night , my parents had already gone to sleep probably thinking that I was just in my room . But instead I had been doing the complete opposite of that .

ALANNA' S POV

That nights I never slept . The image of Katie's dead body just kept replaying over and over in my head . Maybe if I reacted differently there may of been a chance that she had survived , but instead I just thought of myself . It didn't help that I wasn't in my own room either , I was currently sat in my brothers spare room . I had opted to just stay at his house but right now I could really do with the comfort of my own bed .
