17:23, 29 September 2025A few days had passed since Finn died. Things still felt pretty tense at Camp Jaha, and with the grounders now at camp too, it was even more awkward and tense. Sophia was starting to feel like she needed to get away from camp for a bit. She trusted that the others could get her brother and the others out of Mount Weather. She just needed out.
"It feels crowded..." Murphy muttered to Sophia as they sat in on the council meeting, listening in on what the plan was for attacking Mount Weather. "Shut it." Sophia scolded quietly, elbowing his side, making him grunt. "I'm just saying. I'm not giving up our room-- our beds just so the grounders have a place to sleep." He muttered.
"I know we don't have a lot in common. But we do have a common enemy and a common goal. And for us to reach it, to get our people out of Mount Weather, we need to work together. Ogeda. Skaikru and Trikru. Our survival depends on your sharing your knowledge of this world..." Sophia listened to Kane talk before looking over when one of the grounders started stalking towards her and Murphy, his eyes locked onto Murphy.
"What? You got a problem?" Murphy questioned. The grounders spoke his language in response. Though Sophia didn't understand the language fully, she figured out enough to make the assumption that this grounder was at that village where Finn slaughtered all those grounders. Murphy shook his head with a forced laugh, "Sorry, man. I don't speak grounder." He shrugged. "John..." Sophia warned quietly, sensing the tense atmosphere in the air. Murphy squinted when the grounder got a bit closer toward Sophia. Before the grounder could say anything, Murphy pushed the grounder away, causing him to get pissed and go to shove him back.
"Mr. Murphy, apologize to that man." Kane scolded. Murphy and Sophia looked at each other, then at Kane. "For what? He was the one who came to us." Murphy argued. "Two days' work detail." Kane crossed his arms.
"You've got to be kidding-- work detail? Murphy literally just said," Kane frowned. "You too, Ms. Jordan." Sophia gritted her teeth. She tensed slightly when she heard the grounder speak to Murphy again, "You, and that little girlfriend of yours, can burn just like your friend."
Anger flared in Murphy's eyes as he spun around and punched the grounder in the face. Sophia stepped back as the two started fighting. "Murphy! Murphy! Murphy, stop!" Kane snapped as a riot started breaking out. Sophia was grabbed by one of the other grounders, pulled into a choke hold, making her squirm as she started shouting. "Stop this!" Octavia pleaded over the commotion.
Eventually, Sophia was let go, and Kane grabbed hold of both Sophia and Murphy by the back collar of their shirts; they almost resembled cats being scuffed while they were led out and to medical.
"After Abby clears you, both of you are on work detail for three days," Kane muttered, almost sounding like a disappointed father. "But you said tw-" Kane glared at Sophia. "Do you want me to make it four?" Sophia just shook her head, looking down at her lap as Abby bandaged Murphy.
"Bastard got what he deserved. I'm not going to apologize." Murphy grunted as Abby went to check on Sophia. "That bastard could have killed you, you know." Sophia frowned, making Murphy roll his eyes. "You worry too much. I would have been fine." Sophia sighed. "John..." she mumbled, getting up once Abby gave them both the all clear.
"You know, because of that stunt, we're now stuck on work detail." Sophia pointed out as the pair walked to their designated area for work detail. "Well, it would have been just me if you didn't go sticking your neck out like that, princess," Murphy added. "That grounder was trying to start a fight with you. Kane was on the wrong side." Sophia stated simply as she grabbed one of the brooms. "Still. You didn't need to do that, Soph. I would have been fine." Sophia looked over at Murphy. Her expression softened slightly as she looked out the window. Her brows furrowed watching Skaikru practicing/training with their guns.
"Save your bullets for the grounders..." Murphy muttered under his breath, Sophia humming in agreement. "I take it you don't approve." Sophia nearly jumped at hearing Jaha's voice. Murphy snickered under his breath but chose to ignore Jaha.
"I asked you a question." Jaha pressed, making Murphy groan in annoyance. "Who cares what I think?" He questioned, looking over at the chancellor. "I do. Or I wouldn't've asked." He encouraged. Murphy grimaced and then looked away. "I think the grounders can go to hell." He grunted. "John!" Sophia scolded. "What? After the bullshit they put us through, you really think they don't deserve that?" He questioned, making Sophia frown.
"I got you both off work detail." Jaha chimed in. "Wait, what?" Sophia's brows furrowed as she looked af Jaha. "Why?" Murphy questioned, now just as confused. "You two knew my son, and I'd like you both to take me to his grave. Now that there's a truce, it's safe for me to go see the body."
Murphy and Sophia exchanged looks before rolling their eyes. "Then get someone else to take you. I'm sure someone would love to spend some quality time with the chancellor who sent us down to earth to die." Murphy mumbled sarcastically. Jaha didn't seem to react as he stepped closer to the pair.
"I'm told the graves are unmarked. You can show me which is his. You can hold a mop or you can hold a gun, your choice." Jaha said, holding a gun out towards Murphy.
Murphy glanced at the gun, then looked at Sophia. She simply shrugged her shoulders, nodding her head toward the gun. "Fine. But after that, we head right back to camp. I really don't feel like dealing with Kane throwing more punishments our way for this." Murphy mumbled as he set his mop aside. Sophia sighed softly as she put her own mop away.
Last time they were at the dropship, Raven tried to offer Murphy up as a sacrifice to the grounders. She really would rather avoid going back, but when the chancellor tells you to do something, sometimes you have no choice but to do it.
