40. Surprise Visit

22:24, 12 August 2019

By the time Jimin is done plating his meal, my stomach is growling incessantly and is ready to be fed.

He starts bringing the food to the counter I'm sitting at, and I perk up at the looks of it up close; it's even prettier in person. He smirks at my reaction.

"Excited, are we?" He asks with an all-too smug expression, amusement clear in his words.

I glare back. "No, I'm just ready to get this over with. It would be rude not to eat the food you took eight years to prepare."

He looks down, gulping. Is he nervous? He quickly regains himself.

"Oh, no worries, I'd happily eat everything here without your fat ass in the way."

Oh.

No.

He.

Didn't!

"Park Jimin I'm going to kill you!" I leap out of my chair and sprint around the counter to where he stands, catching him by surprise.

Before I can reach him, though, he makes for the other direction, successfully putting us in a chase around my apartment. It's roomy, but not big, so there's not many places he can-

"What the hell you can't leave!" I whine as he bolts out the apartment door.

Think about this, Kyung Mi. He's faster than you. He's stronger than you. Even if by some miracle you catch up to him, tackling him to the ground is going to be difficult.

I smile to myself as I come up with an alternative. Slowing to a walk, I reach the door that leads outside and close it, turning the key and locking it shut. That's what you get for running off, Jimin.

I skip to the counter where the food is laid out. Excited, I start plating my dish, getting a pair of chopsticks and pouring a glass of water for myself.

My phone starts buzzing. At the same time, I get a heart attack as someone starts pounding at the door. I look at my screen to see Jimin is calling me. I answer, rolling my eyes prettily.

"I'm not letting you in, dumb nut."

"I can break your door down and you know it."

"Okay can you stop banging on the door please? The neighbors are gonna call the police or something."

"No." He continues to punch the wood and I heave a sigh. This child.

"I'll open the door." I promise, crossing my fingers.

The pounding stops. I breath a sigh of relief.

"Thank you. Gosh that was loud." I mutter. He must think I'm walking to the door to open it, but instead I end the call and start eating.

I inhale the spicy japchae* and let out a sigh of content; it's so freaking good I can hardly contain my joy. As I reach for the kimchi, I get another call from Bodyguard Boy.

"What?" I say, annoyed, crunching on the fermented cabbage.

"What do you mean, what? Open the door, Kyung Mi!"

I roll my eyes despite him not being able to see me. "What do I hate being called most in the world, Jimin?"

His frustration is clear through the phone. "I'm not in the mood for a pop quiz right now, can you just-"

"I'll wait. We both know you know the answer."

He audibly sighs. "You hate when someone calls you weak."

"That's right. The second-," I enunciate, "worst thing you can call me, or any girl for that matter, is fat. Besides that, it's just plain rude."

He sighs, but his voice softens. "I guess you don't get my humor by now. I would never insult someone if I meant it. Calling you fat means I think you aren't fat, I mean, have you looked at yourself lately?" As he finishes the sentence his voice becomes far away, as if he's looking at something behind him. But I still heard the comment, and it makes my cheeks warm.

"Fine. You've earned the right to come back in."

"Kyung-" his voice sounds rushed as I end the call. Confused, I hurriedly make my way to the door and unlock it. As soon as I swing it open, I feel a body lunge on to me.

"Stay on the ground. You're going to crawl to your room and lock the door, understand?" Jimin's authoritative voice forces me into nodding hurriedly. He shuts the door with his foot before getting off of me.

Before I'm about to crawl away, I look at him in the eyes, searching for answers. His gaze reveals fear masked by courage. He must have seen someone suspicious.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets. In my door. Someone is shooting at the door dammit!

My body catches up with my brain and I scurry away from the action, trying to get to safety. Before I turn I see Jimin pulling a pistol from his suit jacket and opening the door. Eyes watering, I close my room door with shaky hands.

My entire body starts shaking and the action leads to tears. I cry painfully in my room, clutching at my heart and yearning for him to be okay.

Please be careful Jimin.

It all happened so fast I didn't register the fact that there was some type of assassin outside my apartment and I had locked Jimin out there.

If Jimin hadn't noticed him this could've turned out so much more different...

I feel a surge of gratitude for my bodyguard's vigilance.

My apartment door bursts open and I hear Jimin's angry voice. "Get the fuck out of there, you bastard!"

"Where is she?" The other man's voice is hoarse and scary. I start hyperventilating.

There's a man with a gun in my apartment looking for me and I'm locked in my room.
